View 3 RepliesI am using VB .NET 2005 and I would like to compact an Access 2003 database.I've read "How to compact a Microsoft Access database by using Visual Basic .NET" from the knowledge base but it will only save in Access 2000 (link below).Attempting this with a 2003 database throws an exception about not being able to save it as an older version (losing features and what not).Is there a way to do this with a 2003 database? url....
View 3 RepliesI know that there is a topic about compacting and repairing but i already have the compact part done. I was wondering if there was any way to repair the database from code from within the database?

View 1 Repliesi have create a software for my college which is document management. well am doing good so far up to now where i need to upgrade my database what i mean ?
in case i need to make any changes to my database i don't want to enter the database and create new table or add new fields to existing table to my current database,i would like to do that throught visual studio 2010 programaticaly. something like an additional application where i will choose my database path and the application will upgrade the database with new tables or new fields .
i would like also to ask, in order to create database,or if you already have the database and you like to just open the connection to it programaticaly and add new field ,or relate some table ,you have to work with different librarys? Like ADOX,DAO etc ? and other.?
My idea and code is in reply #4 dated today in that topic.I found C# code to allow my application to compact and repair the database used by the application I have created. However, I need to translate that C# code into VB.Net. My attempt is described in the post.I don't know the VB.Net equivalent for the statement: [code]

View 3 RepliesI am not able to add records in an Access 2007 database using VB 2010 Express Edition. I have read other posts and followed them but still I am not sucessful. I have the connection to the access database as MS Access Database, therefore it has the OLEDB connection (not the Jet 4.0). I am using the project instance in binding the text boxes to the fieldnames in the Access database. Did I miss something? I am also using Windows Vista Ultimate.
Below is the code.

The project must have different user and each has username and password will be saved in my database but only the admin can add users.
View 5 RepliesI have names of all labels in a table of an Access database (one field is a form name- it can be repeated, the second field is a label name - it must be unique for the same form, the third field is a text of this label). E.g. the first record has field1="Form1", field2="Label1", field3="Smith" My question: How can I refer to a label programmatically using the Access database? E.g. Form1.Label1.Text= "Smith" In C languge there was the opportunity "remove the quotation marks" from the text ("Label1") and get the literal (Label1). Is this opportunity in VB.NET?
View 10 RepliesI'm new to visual basic 2010 ultimate. I want to make a search button to "search" ms access 2007 database for specific data and display the results in datagridview. I also want to display the data to textboxes.

View 5 RepliesI'm updating an old VS 2003 project to VS 2010. Part of the application uses the old JRO COM object to compact the database. That seems to be depreciated in 2010.
View 1 RepliesI'm using the Microsoft Access Database Engine and trying to do a compact using the following code:
Dim acc As New Dao.DBEngine
Try
acc.CompactDatabase(serverDataPath & "MQRMeta.accdb", serverDataPath & "MQRMeta.001.accdb")
Catch ex As Exception
PrintLog(modName, rtnname, "Error compacting database. " & ex.Message, "MQR2500E:")
End Try
My VB.NET program compacts and repairs my DB, but somewhere in the process unsets the database password. No problem, just reset it through VB, right? not sure how to go about that task.
So I either need to know how to compact it without losing the password, or how to reset the password after I lose it. Trying the best I can to make the code look decent in my post, let me know if there is a better way.
Dim strAccessDatabasePath As String = System.AppDomain.CurrentDomain.BaseDirectory & "App_DataSquirrel.accdb"

Dim TempDB As String = TempFolder & " emp.accdb"

View 4 RepliesI am using VB 2008, then I noticed that with the Provider.Oledb.12.ACE = database.accdb whatever connection string uses the bin/debug/database.accdb file when I connect my program with a database. Suddenly, a database with the same name appeared on the lets say "WindowsApplication1" folder. Then whenever I try to debug/run, it throws an error saying that it was unable to copy the database from the "WindowsApplication1" folder to the debug folder even though VB 2008 reads through the database from the bin/debug folder. As a result, after I input values when I debug, it resets because VB 2008 copies the database from the "WindowsApplication1" folder.

I'm trying to connect to a access 2007 database with VB 9 and am having some problems.
I went to Data and then selected add new datasource.
Then I clicked on database and selected Next.
I click on new connection, change the datasource to access database file and then click ok.
It doesn't give me a browser box so I can choose where my access database file is. All it shows me is a connection string label and a text box to the right of it. I tried entering the full path to my accdb file in that connection string box and also just the name of the file itself since it's in the same directory but get the error message "format of the initialization string does not conform to specification starting at index 0."
Also, when I click on test connection, it always says succeeded even though no database has been selected.
I have a little problem with converting data from a datagridview to my access 2007 atabase.t's been some years since the last time I've opened Visual Studio 2008. So, probably it's something easyo do.
This is my code so far:
Dim i As Byte = 0
While i <> dgInput.Rows.Count

I just installed a VB application developed using VS 2008. I installed the application on a Windows 7 machine. The application uses a MS Access 2007 database. When I run the application, an exception gets raised:The "Microsoft.ACE.OLEDB.12.0" provider is not registered on the local machine. But I don't seem to have this problem on a Windows 98 machine.
