Code Searching - No Control Over Multiple Uses

Though I know your site ask for some effort on my part im not exactly sure where to start.. I know how to code some decent things and such but recently I wanted to make a serial code system.. What Im looking for is to have a list of Serials on my website (possibly through MySQL? Or something simpler Not sure on this either) I know about the obvious

I'm developing an application to help law enforcement retrieve and analyze logs and other files left by the use of Pidgin (a multi-protocol messenger client). Right now I'm nearly done, but I want to add the ability to search chat logs for user-defined words or phrases and I don't even know where to begin.
Chat logs are stored as html documents in a folder/sub-folder/sub-folder/sub-folder fashion, where each sub-folder can have dozens of sub-folders inside of it, and the final sub-folder can have dozens if not hundreds of chat logs. If anybody could point me in the right direction, I'd be very grateful.
(Also, this is the first program I've written since about 2005, and I'm essentially teaching myself VB as I go. If you'd like to see what I've cobbled together so far, you can find the program here.)

Im making an advanced search for a application I need to have an SQL statement that includes all the tables in my db, looks at Cell values and then output to a DGV. This is what Ive tried but it aint working,"SELECT * FROM cases, opencases, staff WHERE Crime='" & txtsearch.text & "'" I need to output the results from all tables into one then insert the table into a DGV. Also need it to search all Columns not just Crime.

I do not know if it is possible to implement this problem in VBA or it must be done with VB. Net using Visual Studio.
Problem: Excel has its search function and it is a pain if there many value available or you must find a value that far away from column A.
I would like to have something like this
In which I can specify what columns I want to display by their header name. Rearrange the column in the way I would like to, and ability to copy and paste. Like datagrid in Visual basic?

I'm in the process of moving from ADO.NET to Linq. The application is a directory search program to look people up. The users are allowed to type the search criteria into a single textbox. They can separate each term with a space, or wrap a phrase in quotes such as "park place" to indicate that it is one term.
Behind the scenes the data comes from a XML file that has about 90,000 records in it and is about 65 megs. I load the data into a DataTable and then use the .Select method with a SQL query to perform the searches. The query I pass is built from the search terms the user passed. I split the string from the textbox into an array using a regular expression that will split everything into a separate element that has a space in it. However if there are quotes around a phrase, that becomes it's own element in the array. I then end up with a single dimension array with x number of elements, which I iterate over to build a long query.
I then build the search expression below:

We have users to type in Business Requirement in a text box.For instance : DOB Field is mandatory in Service Request Screen.
I am planning to define all the keywords in my code and once search button is clicked it should look for the keywords and throw a msgbox with number of keywords found.

Ok I have a search Button that will search through a student table and produce the grades of all the stdents in a class room when I enter the class room number into a textbox(txtclass.Text). The results will be displayed in a DataGridView and also I have the average grade of the class displayed in another textbox(marks.Text).
My program runs fine but I would like to add more code so that If I enter a wrong classrom number into the search textbox and Search for it then I would like a messagebox to pop up and say that the classrom you have entered does not exist. .I have tried different if statements but none has worked for me so far.

So im currently making a program, basicly i want the user to put in a certain code into a text box, then when they hit the button, visual basic opens the excel spreadsheet, and seaches for the code the put it, so i have this excel sheet that has like a billioncodes and the names of the codes, so the names of the codes are in column a, and the codes are in column b, i want vb to open the spreadsheet, search through column b from top to bottom, then close the spreadsheet, and put the name of the code from column a into a label so the user can see. and possibly pop up with an error box if it doesnt find the code.

I have made an app that will check to see if a website is on the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th page of google, the websites are in a datagridview. I am using five webbrowser controls but it begins to get slower and slower? As it searches for each website using a for statement. How to improve this code to make it run quicker, or even a better way to go about it.

That code works great to search for one string, but how can i search for multiple strings in the file? Lets say that "Searchwhat" looks like "GFR,EPB,IKJ" and if the file i am searching in can find all that in the file it will add the filename to the Pathlistbox.

I'm writing some VB2008 code to control four 7-seg LEDs I bought from Velleman. They came with some example code in VB 5.0, and with instructions telling me to input 5 bytes at a time in the format Chr$() & Chr$() & etc. for the rest of the 5 bytes. When I try to do this using VB2008, it rejects the $ sign, so I've tried it using the Chr() format, which VB2008 allows. However, it doesn't work. Is Chr() the new version of Chr$() or are they different entities? In sending data to the LEDs, I'm using LiveComPort.WriteLine() as my command. (My serial port is called LiveComPort) I also tried it with LiveComPort.Write() asthe command. I know that my serial port and the LEDs are working, because they respond to the demo program provided by Velleman.

I have a report where I need the same data, but for four separate date ranges. Currently this data is based on one month, so it's just one dataset. But now I am trying to do this with four separate datasets, where each one is filtered on each of the four date ranges. I setup my WHILE loop to loop thru all four dates. But I'm having trouble now with distinct naming these datasets. Is this the best way to do this? It looks like if I used multiple datatables for one dataset, I'd have to define each datatable column. I want to create a UI that uses a tab control to display multiple listview controls, one on each tab page. The number of tab pages/listviews is dynamic and could reach around 20. The listviews are in virtual mode and are populated from an object (custom class) in memory.It seems very wasteful to create 20 listviews. I seem to remember that back in VB4 days the tab control had only one page, and you changed the display yourself in code. Is there a way to do something similar with VB.net (VS2008/Framework 2.0) i.e. just show one listview and repopulate it according to which tab was clicked by the user? Something like this:

I want to print contents of a ListView, currently I can print on one page only so my question is how do I improve my code to print on multiple pages. I've read little about the HasMorePages property but no idea how to use it in this context.
