Create And Write To A New Text File From An Existing Text File?

Sep 2, 2009

I have a very large text file about 4 million lines that I would like to separate into several small text files based on the strings contained in the first column of the text file. I want to open the large text file, choose the lines that apply, create a new text file with a name that has a number at the end of which will match up with the value in the first column of the text file. I want to then copy the applicable lines to the new small text file, save and close it. I'm not sure how to go about doing this after opening the large text file and using the readline method. What if the folder does not exist? Do we have to create it? I want this procedure to be general, as there could be up to 25 million lines in the text file.

Copying Data A File Int An Existing File Where The Filename Of Both The Data File And Existing File Will Vary From User To User

Aug 5, 2011

I have a workbook (Workbook1) that runs through some steps using visual basic, which ends up opening another workbook Workbook2). Once Workbook 2 is opened, I need to copy a section of data from it, into Workbook1 int a specific worksheet. I was able to do this by recording a macro, but the challange is, the name of Workbook 1, and Workbook 2, will vary by User. When I created the macro it uses the files as they are currently named. The section of code is below.

Write To Text File Using VBA Code?

Jul 1, 2009

writing data to a text file. I use the following code:

Sub WriteFile(sFile As String, sData As String)
Dim nDestFile As Integer, sText As String
''Close any open text files
Close

[code]....

The variable sFile above is a valid file name. The problem is that the WriteFile method prints an extra empty line at the end of sFile which is not desired. Is there any way to stop the "Print" method from doing so?

Write A Code To Read Data From .gpx File?

Jul 5, 2011

I would like to write a code to read data from .gpx file, but I get stucked with classes: I have a problem with creating working array of objects in object and setting or getting data from it.

I wrote this:

Module Module1
Sub Main()
Dim i As Integer

[code]....

but I get always the latest values of points for all slots of array... Lets say we got 3 points as an input: 1. lon: 5, lat: 1; 2. lon: 2, lat: 3; 3. lon: 4, lat:9. I always get the same values for i = 0 to 2... lon: 4, lat: 9.

Insert A Snippet Of XML From A XML File

Sep 10, 2010

I am trying to insert a snippet of XML from a XML file, into the original file that I load.

Example:I load XML file xmlFile1 Then load another xml file which is basically a snippet of XML that needs to be inserted or appended into the xmlFile1 a few node depths inside..Everytime i try a different way to do this by a fragment or element i get the following exception:[System.ArgumentException] = {"The node to be inserted is from a different document context."}

[Code]...

There has got to be a way to insert the entire fragment or element by using the appendchild or insertafter method, since the snippet of xml needs to be placed a few depths in the XML file.

Multiple CodeSnippet In A XML .snippet File?

Jul 28, 2009

I'm attempting to supplement the help features for my code by providing other developers with code snippets. These produce skeletons of code which demonstrate how to use/call my classes or methods.

I've created a .snippet file and have placed it in the "%Visual Studio Folder%Code SnippetsVisual BasicMy Snippets" folder. I've used the Code Snippets Manager and ensured that it included this folder so that I can access the snippets.

Everything works well when I have 1 CodeSnippet tag within the root CodeSnippets tag....When I add more than one CodeSnippet tag to the file (each with their own title, and their own code example) I'm experiencing something strange.

The first CodeSnippet I've added contains code for adding something to my system, the second contains code for editing something in my system, and the third deleting something from the system. When I use the code snippet by right clicking and selecting "Insert Code Snippet", only the first code snippet in the file shows up as an option. When I select it, the code in the first CodeSnippet is inserted....but so is the code within the other CodeSnippet tags.

Do you have to have a separate XML .snippet file for each code snippet you want to make available? After reading through MSDN about creating Code Snippets I was under the impression that this could all be done within one file.

Passlist Separator Program Will Not Let Read And Write Half Of A File To One File, Then The Other Half To Another File?

Nov 8, 2011

What my program does is load a file (password list), then progressively reads each line of text in the file whilst writing each line to a new file. After X amount of lines have been written, it should start writing the lines of text to a new document until the initial password list has been split into X amount of password lists. The problem I have is that after hours of tweaking, all I can get it to do is write either blank ocuments, or write all of the lines to only one file. I really need it to be able to split into multiple files, preferably at runtime rather than loading a whole text document into the program in a textbox or array then writing it to new files.Below is the source:

Imports System
Imports System.Windows.Forms
Imports System.IO

File I/O And Registry :: Write A Text File In XP Versus Win7

Sep 28, 2011

I am using Visual Studio 2008 on Windows XP SP3. User has Windows 7 Pro (32 bit). The IO code below works for me. The read code works for user, but the write code only works for new files. If the user tries to overwrite a current data file, then no data is written to disk. I have done all the usual IO checking (valid file name, etc.) and have excluded it from my same code. In my app, FileSave and FileSaveAs both call WriteDataFile(FullFileName). Any reasons why FIleSave would work on Windows XP, but not on Windows 7 Pro (32 bit)?

Code:
Public Function ReadDataFile(ByVal FullFileName As String) As Integer
' reads a Data file from disk
'
' Format is a text file, with [TAB] seperators and [CR][LF] as line terminators
