I have a combobox which is reading a directory and display the files in the path, I want to select a value in the combobox and display this in a textbox but it crashes whenever I try to do this.
I imported an image with a conflicting name as an image file in resources. Then the project crashed. I can't open the resources. It only shows a message as "There is already another resource with the name 'Cr'."The compile errors show that "'Resources' is not a member of 'My'".
This is a question that has been bugging me for a while and I am no longer working in this so sorry for the lack of code. The situation is this I had a web service that in the client and the server page it had compression and it had encryption. It didn't work all the time because there was accents and that crashed the encryption but when you set it to UTF8 it got fixed. Still there was a set of data that was very BIG and it exceeded the limit of normal string 33 thousand or something characters.
This step happened in the packing and unpacking steps of web services. What was being returned is a Dataset(that in webservices it converts to an XML). I know StringBuilder can be helpful but I assume that when you change it toString() it will trim the string to the max limit.
I am working on an OpenGL Visual Basic 2010 Express project using Tao.dlls.My computer has crashed a few times while I was last working on my code.Since then There has been some side effects such as intelisense and autocomplete not working when I load the project, even after checking the options and settings for them. When I start a new project on the other hand the features work again. Also when this OpenGL code is run:
Code: glutMotionFunc(AddressOf MouseMotionGUI)
I get:
BadImageFormatException unhandeld An attempt was made to load a program with an incorrect format. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x8007000B)
This code was working fine before my computer crashed and probably corrupted some files.
I got a legacy solution targeting .net framework 2.0. When I open the properties - Compile tab of the VB projects in VS2008 or 2010, the VS always crashes. Other C# legacy projects are working.I am using windows 7 64 bit. (It's working in the xp mode.)

I use windows Vista.I had been working intensly on a new program all day today and pretty much all day yesterday. I was almost finished. Then my computer crashed. I rebooted. When I came back into Visual Basic 2010 express, I expected that somewhere I would see my files. Besides... I HAD BEEN SAVING THE FILES ALL DAY LONG USING CONTROL+S on my keyboard. The little * symbol at the top of each file would go away. I assumed that meant it was actually saving my work as I went along. I did not, however, actually go to file->SAVE at any point along the way.
After coming back into VB2010 express, no autorecover dialog appeared. I looked for my project in the list, and it wasn't there. I looked at "recent files" and "recent projects" and found nothing. Finally I searched my whole hard drive for my project, and found only one EMPTY directory located at:
C:UsersDellLaptopDocumentsVisual Studio 2010Backup Files, which matched the name of my project I had spent the last two days working on.
How can I make my apparently so that when I click a button, it executes a sub of my choice on a seperate thread? I need this to send an email and when I ran it normally it crashed my GUI.
I have a simple Win App VB project with a single form in it. I also have an Active X component which I am adding onto this form. This component is made in C++. On building the VB project i get the message "COM Reference 'CPPLib' is the interop assembly for ActiveX control 'AxCPPLib' but was marked to be linked by the compiler with the /link flag. This COM reference will be treated as a reference and will not be linked." but it compiles successfully. When i try rebuilding it or opening the view designer of the form VS2010 crashes. The project is locally creating two dlls namely "Interop.CPPLib.dll" & "AxInterop.CPPLib.dll". I have made the Embed interop types False for both these references.
Im kind of wondering can I fix this? When I edit code in Visual Basic 2008 Exspress Edition it will everytime open after maybe 15 to 30 mins feeze and close, sometimes it unfreezes but not always
I am looking to make a small application which uses 3 stages of combo boxes to filter results into subcatagories. Once the filtering is selected - I want the user to be presented with some advice, maybe even a small picture.I want the application to gather its information run from a database which will be network based via a mapped network drive on our network. There may only be 4 colums in that database. I want to be able to update the database as required.
I'm pretty sure this has been answered on this thread before, but I'm having trouble searching for it, so I decided to make a new post. Anyway, My problem is that I have a Setting from "My.Settings.Navigation" that is a Specialized String Collection, and what I am trying to do is find a method in which I can attach "My.Settings.Navigation" to a ComboBox. I was also wondering if it was possible to make it only hold up to 20 items at a time?
This is my first web-based application using VB 2008. I had no idea where to start so I just chose the 'Wpf Browser Application' and started adding the controls on the form and naming them the same as I would do with a normal non-web-based vb app. I ran the XBAB file under bin/debug using IE and the form showed up but I couldn't enter text or anything even though the textbox was set to enabled?
I'm trying to do a windows application. I have a combobox with this
Dim sql As String = "Select EMPLID from PS_EMPLOYEES Order by EMPLID" Dim da As New Data.SqlClient.SqlDataAdapter(sql, "data source = DATASERVERR;initial catalog = HRSYS83;user id=sa; password=sa") Dim ds As New DataSet
[CODE]...
This works fine, but i want to load a textbox with the name of the employee that i selected in the combobox.
I have a checkbox in my application, when the checkbox is checked then i want to fetch the data from the database and add it to the dropdownlist of the combobox.Again when the checkbox is unchecked then i want to ramove all the data from the dropdownlist of the combobox.
I did this
Private Sub CheckBox1_CheckedChanged(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles CheckBox1.CheckedChanged If CheckBox1.Checked = True Then con = New OleDbConnection("Provider=Microsoft.Jet.Oledb.4.0;Data Source=Etech.mdb")
[CODE]...
When the checkbox is checked then the data is added from the database to the dropdownlist of the combobox but when i uncheck it then the data is not removed from the dropdownlist of the combobox. In the above code i think i need to add an else condition to remove the data from the dropdownlist of the combobox and make it empty when the checkbox is unchecked.......but i cant give the proper else condition in the above code.
I have a little problem with application setting in VB.net 2008. I want to switch main server and backup server connection string with combobox. [Code] It did change the Application Setting connection string in the main form when combobox1 was changed. But the problem comes, when child form was called. On the child form there is DataGridView with Dataset using application connection string. Even the Backupserver was selected on the main form, child form dataset connection string doesn't change. I don't know how to pass the current connection string to child form dataset although it is set to use application setting.
I am using VB.NET together with ADO.NET to create a program. I have set my TableAdapters as needed and bound the correct tables-columns to my comboboxes. My problem though is this:My combobox2 item is bound to a datatable. The table adapter's Fill method (the select command basicaly) includes a public variable in the where clause to fetch the correct results. I ll put some code here to clarify it a bit more.Public Class Frm_inv
I have a tab control application, each tab loads a particular user control and each of those user controls will then add other user controls that are used amongst other the user controls. For example, I have an "ucQuotes" page and an "ucInventory" page, when the specific tab is selected, the "uc****" user control is loaded on that page, and in the case of "ucQuotes" and "ucInventory" they both use a control called "ucPartNumber"; a user control consisting of a combobox, textbox, and button. I have no issues reusing the shared user controls, in this case. My problem arises with my "ucQuickPrice" control, as it is always present at the bottom of the tab control form (separate from the tabcontrol, but on the same form), and it too uses ucPartnumber.
Here's my issue, as I type into the ucPartnumber combobox, the text I type does not appear in the combobox, it appears in the textbox of the ucPartnumber control that is being used on the tabcontrol page. There are no shared instances of ucPartNumber, nor do I have this issue between typing on one tab page and the text showing on the user control of another tab page.I tried just creating the ucPartNumber controls on the ucQuickPrice control, not adding a new instance of ucPartnumber on the .Load event, and the issue persists.
The combobox(s) in question are bound programmatically with about 40,000 items, ".datasource = dataset.tablename" not to a bindingsource. Autocomplete is set to none, I added code to utilize tool tips and the basic combobox filtering functionality. Is this a bug, or is there something I'm neglecting? I'm about 95% complete with this application, and this just happened today. I made the decision, to just reuse the ucPartNumber control on the ucQuickPrice control (originallly it's size and orientation would not fit, but I added some coding to detect what parent is adding ucPartNumber and to change its appearance accordingly). Before, I made this change, I did not have this problem. And, in trying to go back to how I had things set up before the change, the problem will not go away. if the whole control within a control verbage I used is a bit confusing, let me know and I'll try to better explain what is happening. At this point, I'm going to close and reopen vbexpress, as when I started this ordeal, vb started acting weird and wanted me to save all my work, it usually does this before locking up.
I am new to vb.net and I am using visual studio 2010. I have two comboboxes on a form, each combobox is set to DropDownList so that a list of items can show in the combobox, but no text is allowed to be entered.
For combobox A, if user chooses item 1, the list of combobox B should be updated accordingly. I think this is quite common on a lot of applications. But I do not know to implement it. I even do not know the keyword to search for the relevant property or event handler.
When I will click the suggested text shown in the combobox it will disappear. My Combobox btw is connected in a database. If I type Kev then kevin and kevsky will show at its suggestion then when I will click any of it ,the combobox text will be empty or will clear what I typed ("Kev") and will not show what I clicked.[code]
I am making a custom ComboBox, inherited from Winforms' standard ComboBox. For my custom ComboBox, I set DrawMode to OwnerDrawFixed and DropDownStyle to DropDownList. Then I write my own OnDrawItem method. But I ended up like this:
How do I make my Custom ComboBox to look like the Standard one?
Update 1: ButtonRenderer After searching all around, I found the ButtonRenderer class. It provides a DrawButton static/shared method which -- as the name implies -- draws the proper 3D button. I'm experimenting with it now.
Update 2: What overwrites my control?I tried using the Graphics properties of various objects I can think of, but I always fail. Finally, I tried the Graphics of the form, and apparently something is overwriting my button.
Here's the code:
Protected Overrides Sub OnDrawItem(ByVal e As System.Windows.Forms.DrawItemEventArgs) Dim TextToDraw As String = _DefaultText __Brush_Window.Color = Color.FromKnownColor(KnownColor.Window)
DataGridView TIPs has TextBoxes and ComboBoxes in it and the data comes from an SQL table. I see how to get or set the cell values that come from the ComboBoxes using Item, but how do I access the actual ComboBox events and properties?
I have a table in my database with 5 columns (ID1 to ID5) and just one row. I'm trying to bind a comboBox, to show ID1 through ID5 in the combobox when my form loads. I have a dataset and tableAdapter's made for this already. I just want to know how to bind a combobox to those ID values.
I'm making a combobox on a form. I want the combobox to have a list of choices from a table in a db. The two columns are a String and a Date. I want the date column to only show the year. I'm hoping I have the code right as it is above, but I'm not positive I've done the whole date thing right.
I think my question is discriptive, or as Microsoft in the Documentation for Data Grid the question is, How do I have a combo box column display a sub set of data based upon the value of a different combo box column?
I have a combobox..... When a user clicks on the list inside the combobox my webbrowser opens to the selected items website.how to make the combobox go back to the original text of the combobox?
Example: Combobox list ---- Select Item ---- Royals Mets
[code]....
When the user see's the screen the ---- Select Item ---- is visible. When a user clicks a teams name it opens the teams website and the name stays in the box. I want it to go back to ---- Select Item ---- immediately after they click a list item.
