What are the advantages of the "Using" keyword other than showing the coder when the object goes out of scope.I am under the impression that the "Dispose()" function is called at the IL level when you use "Using" instead of, for examplel, calling the Dispose() in the .net code.
View 1 RepliesI'm using some session variables to store and pass data across several pages of an ASP.Net application. The behavior is a bit unpredictable though. [Code] Ok so far so good, on a normal page load. If the user completes the form action, hits the next page, and decides OH NO, i needed to change field xyz, and clicks back, corrects the data, then submits, the session variable is showing as NULL. Why would a cached session behave this way? I'm not destroying/clearing the variable, unless I fail to understand the scope of session variables.
View 1 RepliesI've got a DataGridView that has a column that will show dates/times this column needs to be sortable so I use this to tell the DGV that it is storing Date type objects (so that sorting works fine automatically):[code]Now the problem is that there will be some records shown in this DGV that do not have a value for this date column. How can I display this? If I dont set a value for that column or I set it to Nothing then the cell just shows the minimum date value (01/01/1601).Oh and this DGV is not using data binding if that makes any difference. Perhaps this might be a good time for me to investigate this data binding lark though if that will help with this issue? I'm sure I recall seeing something about being able to use one value but display another value when you use data binding thats all.
View 6 RepliesI'm trying to make the combobox get suggested values from a website using the current keyword they have in the box already. For example if I have O, it will show up values that the website has returned with O. The problem is how can I make it work where whatever I type into the combobox, it will get the values, set the datasource and make it show up. So far I have this:The problem is whenever I type something, I cannot get it to set it to the new datasource without the comboxbox becoming the first value in the data source.

I have a VB.NET application which runs perfectly with local host. But when I upload it to my server the session objects throw null reference exception.
Sessions is not working in a single page. If I use session on any other page it is working perfectly.
I have enabled session in that page using the EnableSessionState property. Also in web.config I enabled the use of session variables.
Currently, the following code shows a blank line if Address2 (which comes from the database) is Null. How can I condition on the value of <%#Container.DataItem("Address2")%> so I can get rid of the blank line if Address2 does not exist (or is Null) in the database? Now, i am designing the purchase/sales screens. I am showing the items name, qty, price in a datagrid. From the products table, I am able to select the 'ProductName' by giving it a combobox . I want the ProductSellingPrice also to appear in the next column of the grid.
I'm having a problem with combo boxes. I usually use Java and it's been awhile since I used VB but I never remember having this much difficulty.My application is using an SDF file. From Data Sources, I drag the details on one of my Tables to my Form to get all of the fields. Three of them are comboboxes. Each of the three is an INT64 and each corresponds to a primary key in a different table. I click the tasks button on a combobox and for data source I select the appropriate table that has the data to go with the combobox, for display member I select the field that I want users to see, and for value member I select the primary key. Then I run a quick test and start the app, open the form, and add a new record. When I select a value from the combobox the selection won't validate because it doesn't think it's an INT64 like it should be. It seems to be using the display member as the actual value instead because if I change display member to the primary everything works great.
View 11 RepliesI have a form in my vb.net application used to take the data about the returned stock. The form contains two comboboxes. One, named combobox5, contains invoice numbers and the other, named combobox3, contains party codes. Both the comboboxes are pre_loaded using sqldataadapter.
Now what i want is to change the party code in combobox3 when the invoice number is changed in combobox5. Elaborating it further, When Stock is issued the party code is stored along with the invoice number to keep track of to which party was the stock issued. Now when stock is returned i want to keep track that which party has returned the stock and i want that the party code should be automatically selected when the invoice number is changed and it should be what is stored in the database against that particular invoice number....

I want to select all records in a table and only 1 field in 2 related tables so my query is:

All works and all records are selected only if fields CL.Tab1Cod and CL.Tab2Cod contain data but if one or both contain NULL value then NO record are selected. how can I test in a query statement if a filed contains a null value and, in this case do not expose the related field ?For example if CL.Tab2Cod is null the field T2.Description will be empty but all other fields are exposed.

View 3 RepliesHaving trouble importing a value from a .csv file to a .csv file. This this done because data needs to be massaged and the data file renamed. This is a user interface. Do not want to have the user touch the .csv in any way except upload to the application so the applicaiton can do manipulation. Either way here is the issue.
There is a column in the original .csv file that contains a zip code. The first row of the .csv has a value of 17003 in the zip code column. In the second row of the .csv the zip code column has a value of 11746-9984. The value in the zip code column from the second row always comes back as a Null value. My guess is that the OleDbDataAdapter is defining some kind of Schema. Again, the first row containing the zip code column probably insists the value must be numeric. When the data table field is established it probably gets defined as numeric. If that is true and the second row of the .csv zip code column is not numeric that must cause the zip code value to be Null.[code]...
I have two combobox on which will display company and department names. There is a"SelectedIndexChanged" event for company combobox. I don not want that is triggered when value of combobox are empty or null. I tried CompanyCombobox.seletedValue is not null and other ways, but they were not working. How do I detect there is empty or null value on combobox?
View 3 RepliesI can use this code to set the DisplayMember, but the ValueMemeber is always the name of the field and not the field values. I can even reverse and put the ID in the DisplayMember and it works. Not sure what I'm missing here.

I've got a table that caches calculated values for certain dates. I want to use LINQ to select all rows where the calculated value fields are null.But when I use isNothing I get an error that LINQ can't translate this into T-SQL. Is there a way to select null values with link, like this...?

Other posts on stackoverflow mostly discuss how to avoid or check for null values with LINQ.
Note: I can't just set cacluatedValue's default to -1 to flag records whose calculated value has not been set (and then select those records) because I run queries that sum/average the calculated values. Selecting nulls seems cleaner and less bug-prone.
My code seems to behave a way I don't understand. Sometimes it returns null as expected and sometimes it returns a value when its supposed to be null. How can someone explain this? Here is the code that selects from access and displays the result in a messagebox:

I have a datagridView,which is filled with the Click of the Button.My Issue is i can see the data only when i select a row.When no row is selected by mouse then its just showing blank cell,whereas data is actually there in the datagridView.I know its something with the color setting from the DatagridView Properties.I have tried and corrected all the cell Style properties related with that DatagridView.And set the Cell Style properties exactly the same as of my other datagridview,which is working fine.
