I am using VB2008 Express and am curious how to send a command via RS232 communications. The string that I need to send is 02h PON 03h. The start and end bits are 02h and 03h.
How can I convert 02h and 03h to its ascii form. In hyperterminal, I use the sequence {(hold)ALT 0 0 2} on the number pad to send the start bit.
I am using this code currently without the start and end bits

Im working on a HSD 32 bit data bus to serial converter via a microcontroller. Now first I want to make a sort of data sniffer to read the data bus (32Bit) .All on the controller side is working and the stream of bytes are coming in via RS232 as 4 bytes in HEX like FD,A5,45,8B . I already converted the bytes in Dec and ASCII to determine what is passed true the bus and how fast and stuff.. Now that is all correct and working very well if the LSB (least significant bit) of the 32 data bus is Data line 0 and the MSB (most significant bit) is Data line 31 but if that is not the case I need to invert the 32Bits (like as I would invert the connector on the bus) . How do I best do this using the 4 bytes I send from the micro controller.
Example:
(MSB) 01001000 01100101 01101100 01110000 (LSB)
HEX= 48 65 6C 70
DEC= 72,101,108,112
ASCII= H E L P
I need to invert it with a button to:
(MSB) 00001110 00110110 10100110 00010010 (LSB)
HEX= 0E 36 A6 12
DEC= 14,54,166,18
ASCII= (SO) 6 : (DC2)

I have developed a microprocessor based devise. It can communicate with laptop through RS232 as a VB application. Now most of laptops have USB port only. So I want to use USB replacing RS232 port on laptop side but not change anything on the device side. Can I do this using a USB-RS232 converter? How to change the VB software?

Im using VB2008... Net framework 3.0. Basically I have a barcode scanner that is sending the software data...Everything is working fine if I interface the scanner as a keyboard wedge and set the scanner suffix as 'Enter'...In the software I have an event handler on keypress.down...
If keycode.Enter then
.....
.....
....
etc.
However as a RS232 interface I cant get the same result? Hyper terminal reads it perfectly. I've tried all the keypress options but it doesnt work (I assume because it's not actually a key press). when the textbox recieves the CR/LF from RS232? The scanner that does keyboard wedge interfacing is not an option as it is far too expensive for my project.

Like the title says, i have a code written in vb.net that receives data from a PIC microcontroller via rs232, but i need a way to know when te trasmission ends. I have put the word "END" in the microcontroller code so that after he sends all the data , will send the word "END" ..so i need to implement this in my vb.net code and when "END" is received to display "finish" popup message.

I've been playing around with the TCP client/server sample code I found on [URL] but I can't seem to get it to function correctly. The problem I am having is that if I try to send data from the client a second time I get nothing back, not even an error that it couldn't send data. Every time I run the project it works the first time but that's it. When I was running the code line by line it seems to get to 'networkStream.Read(bytes, 0, CInt(tcpClient.ReceiveBufferSize))' and then it jumps over the rest of the routine.

I have a USB modem that can detect caller ID and can detect dialled digits when special AT commands activated, How to send and receive data. The sent data will be the AT command such as AT+VCID-1 to activate the caller ID, the received data will be caller ID information and the digits dialed. I'm new to prgramming and using Visual Basic 2008 Express.

I have created a Client that can send and receive data via TCP sockets. The objects stored on the serverside are the *exact* same object used for the client. They use the same send and receive protocols.
Now, when i send a string from the server to the client , it does precisely what it should do. However when I send a string to the server.... I do receive the string as an equal length of NULL characters. I run the server and client locally.
Basicly what can influence the behaviour between two completely identical objects performing the exact same task? I wonder if there is some socketflag issue if the TCPlistener.accept function returns a completely different setup then the one I R used to.
(if it is of any interest, the send protocol is asynchronious)

I have downloaded the vb script and it works as it should, its a program where you have some buttons so that you could trigger the relays.But i need several small scripts, one for each relay on / off so that i can call them from a .bat file with argument.i have a .bat named relaycard and in thet i have created argument like
relay1on
relay1off
relay2on
relay2off
and so on.
The small program relay1on should just do the jobb and then close itself.Maybe its a little bit clearer now.On the link that i posted there is a manual and even links to the vb program,

I am doing wrong? I am using VB2008/VB.NET to send a command (set to 4 volts) to a Tenma DC Power Supply over an RS232 cable. I don't have documentation from Tenma that lists the commands that the instrument understands, I got "VOLT040" from a program in an older version of VB that someone else wrote for this instrument. The code is below:

I have written a program in vb to serial in data from my microcontroller and it is working good except for one thing. When I try to send the number 26 to vb it just reads a blank I dont know what is going on? The data that I am reading is being converted to int16, and I am using Encoding 28591 and have also tried Encoding 1252. I have also tried a new microcontroller with no success. I dont know if this is a VB problem or a microcontroller program problem.
Dim ReceiveBuffer As String
Dim portname1 As String = "Com5" ' Serial in through this port
Dim portspeed1 As Integer = 19200
Dim WithEvents COMPort As New System.IO.Ports.SerialPort

I need to write an application for receiving data (ascii characters) from microcontroller through the serial port in three separate parts. I've created three RichTextBoxes, but I do not know which commands I need to type. In first textbox I need to receive one byte... next six bytes need to be placed in second text box, and finally last seven bytes need to be placed in third textbox.

I'm using the following code to send simple SMTP mail. the code sends successfully on the development PC however, as soon as i move this to another environment (another PC) the message delivery fails..
Observations:
>> Locally I'm using a version of .Net (2.0.50727) (under application properties > references)
>> The remote machines for which this is failing on has various version of .net 1, 2, 3
>> I'm using the VS2005 and publishing with the wizard
>> Used a packet sniffer to monitor the network interface connected to the network and the no traffic is being generated by the source/sending PC.

So ive looked everywhere but every example i find doesnt work on visual studio 05 and doesnt convert properly. I simply want to send info from one computer to another through direct connection. if anyone could point me in the right direction it would really be helpful. most stuff i find seems to be more complicated than what im looking for.
then just one other question. both computers will be going through a router. as long as i have the port im using forwarded on the hosts side, that shouldnt be a problem, right?

My program connects via the rs232 port to a pump and it managed to start the communication and sending data. But the problem arises when i try to read the return signal from the pump to pc. This is the piece of code i've used:
Code: Dim returnbyte(0) As Byte Dim ByteIndex As Integer = 0
Do While ClassSerialPort.BytesToRead <> 0 ReDim Preserve returnbyte(ByteIndex) returnbyte(ByteIndex) = ClassSerialPort.ReadByte() ByteIndex = ByteIndex + 1 Loop
[code]....
I obtain the following results:
Code:... 6 12 0 0 0 92 ...
From the manual i understand which byte to read. For e.g 6 = ACK. The problem is how to interpret the 4 bytes together in a string for e.g 0 0 0 92 means 9.2ml ?Is there any way to read the decimal point?

I have quite a bit of VB6 experience but now am trying to create my first VB.Net project. The project is very simple - it just needs to send 8-10 character strings from the PC serial port. The problem I'm seeing is that VB.Net is always sending out a 0x0A character after each 'WriteLine' call. Using VB6 it was necessary to manually send out any End Of Line characters. My application requires that no extra EOL characters be sent after the string.

I am trying to read a packet of data which has come in from RS232. I need to be monitoring the port until data comes in to be actioned. I have been doing this fine for some time using the following code:
Dim strline As String = Nothing
Dim comPort As SerialPort
Dim bIsOpen As Boolean = False
[Code]....
The code above works without a problem unles byte 1 or two are greater than 127. Basically, all of the characters that are not converted seem to be 128-255.
I am using VB 2008 express. Clearly I need to read each byte individually and store it as a byte within an array instead of a string but i am not sure how to do this.
how to get around this either through reading bytes properly or through using a different encoding format

i would like to know a method that can read data via rs232 ( i use pic 18f452 to send 5 values(pression, temperature, current, voltage and solar radiation ) of Adc conversion )i successed to read one value at first ( sending one value via pic) , but i couldn't read more than one at end
so, question is how to do that ? how to separate between the data?

I need to write and read data from a RS232 port. On the RS232 port there is a RFID Card reader-Writer connected. So I need to send hex codes to the device, and have to poll every 1sec if there is a card in the system. If there is a card I need to read the info that is on the card. My biggest problem is I think is that I am not sure how many characters there will be in return after the read command (maybe it is always the same length this I am not sure). What is the right way to read-write to the com port. So I always got the same result and not skipping a code.
