Communications :: Used To Assemble And Send Raw Packet / Receive Response Packets?
Sep 14, 2008
What Visual Basic code can be used to assemble and send a raw packet, and receive response packets? I looked on MSDN and I couldn't find any documentation for anything used to send a packet.

I'm writing a program which uses sockets, Now the issue I'm having is, If the packet received is over a certain size, the socket then fails to receive anymore packets/data after it.

Since a few months I want to learn how to receive and send packets. Since WinSock doesn't work I think it'll be quite hard to get an easy way to do it.
I want to be able to send and get packets as a client. (TCP) I know that I need System.Net.Sockets, and that's quite everything...

When you search on google most of the examples are very vague, hopefully this thread can make it to the top and will help someone looking for the same info.to explain the code what it does is create a long string by concatenating all the values together stores it in the variable finalString and then hashes the string using the SHA5 algorithm. Then its supposed to send the string (finalString) as a post request to the url.The server im sending it to reads it this way and sends a response. [code]

I have a USB modem that can detect caller ID and can detect dialled digits when special AT commands activated, How to send and receive data. The sent data will be the AT command such as AT+VCID-1 to activate the caller ID, the received data will be caller ID information and the digits dialed. I'm new to prgramming and using Visual Basic 2008 Express.

I have created a Client that can send and receive data via TCP sockets. The objects stored on the serverside are the *exact* same object used for the client. They use the same send and receive protocols.
Now, when i send a string from the server to the client , it does precisely what it should do. However when I send a string to the server.... I do receive the string as an equal length of NULL characters. I run the server and client locally.
Basicly what can influence the behaviour between two completely identical objects performing the exact same task? I wonder if there is some socketflag issue if the TCPlistener.accept function returns a completely different setup then the one I R used to.
(if it is of any interest, the send protocol is asynchronious)

I need to make a packet sniffer that will give me SSL packets. It doesn't need to give me any other information than the body of the packet, the actual data being sent to me. It does not need to differentiate between different IP addresses. And, it doesn't even need to differentiate between things which are and are not SSL packets. Any packets will be fine, it just needs to support SSL packets. The fewer lines of code the better...

At my workplace I have been developing a server/client application which receives on port 8000 and sends on 8001. We do not have any other applications that use these ports, but we do have an application that accesses an SQL database in which part data is stored.
When I am doing testing on the application, if the server were to crash while the client app was sending a packet, could this lost packet cause issues with the network at all?I ask because for some reason we have been receiving connection timeout errors from the application that stores our product data, but we haven't made any changes or started running any new jobs on the network that I am aware of.

I am making a software in VB .NET and I wanted to find out where a packet is directed i.e whats its destination IP .ctually what I am doing is kind of a relay.. means for example - A computer(192.168.1.2) wants to send a data to 192.168.1.10:80 but I make it send the data to my server computer i.e 192.168.1.5 which then sends the data to the destination machine which 192.168.1.10:80 .So basically I want to find out where the packet wants to reach(in this case 92.168.1.10:80) . The structure looks like --Client Computer -> Destination Computer [ In normal case ]But I want to do something like this :- Client Computer -> Server Computer -> Destination computerFor the Server computer to send the data to destination computer I guess I will have to know where the packet wants to reach or something

I am having trouble with a socket client application written in vb.net using Visual Studio 2005. The client connects to a C language socket server that is running on OpenVMS. The problem that I have is that when the server sends a packet, the client does not receive the last byte (of every packet!). I can dump the packets on the network and the data is all there. My current solution is to keep my socket messages short (247 bytes) and send one extra byte past the end of my data.
I would like to include more information in my messages and I cannot find a way to make this work. If I knew 100% how long the packets will be on the network, I could work around this by including an extra byte in just the right places. However, I don't want to make any assumptions about the length of the packets.
Here is a sample of my client receive code:
Private Sub ReceiveMsg()
Dim nTotalBytes As Integer
Dim nNumBytes As Integer
[Code]....

I am using VB2008 Express and am curious how to send a command via RS232 communications. The string that I need to send is 02h PON 03h. The start and end bits are 02h and 03h.
How can I convert 02h and 03h to its ascii form. In hyperterminal, I use the sequence {(hold)ALT 0 0 2} on the number pad to send the start bit.
I am using this code currently without the start and end bits

I can already capture packets however is it possible to edit the packet and then send it off? Suppose I had a udp pakcet that said "11-mydata", I want to change it to "11-newdata" then send it off. I know which packets will be accepted and which ones will be modified and sent. So is this possible?

I'm trying to receive data from the serial port and display onto a text box in my gui in vb. I'm using xp pro sp2 and vb 2008 exp. What i've done so far:
- I'm able to send data successfully (tested) to the serial port
- I can dispaly what data is being sent (tested)
Steps taken:
- I have looked around on this forum for something similar to what I have but no similar posts are here
- Will look into MSDN help shortly
- Will also try some vb books I have lying around. But the problem is most of the vb books deal with sql server and database stuff and not really interfacing to hardware.

I'm sure I did this several months ago but can not get to work now. Have 2 Nics in PC: 192.168.61.201 and 202. NICs are connected thru switch. Normally if I ping 202 no packets would go out PC but 201 would ping 202 thru backplane. If I use WinPcap.SendQue it appeared (based on switch stats) that ICMP request packet from 201 went to switch and response packet from 202 went to switch and then to 201 NIC. Trafffic appeared in Wireshark. My belief was that WinPcap.SendQue forced packet out.Does this seem correct analysis ? Op: XP Pro SP2, Well it now appears I have SP3.
