I'm using vb.net and have a small project that displays data from a SQL Server database. I used the Data Source Configuration Wizard to create a dataset. I've noticed web sites and code samples that show coding to connect to a database and I've tried that with success. But I'm wondering what the difference is between the two and which is better to use. The only difference I can tell so far is that by using the wizard, the textboxes on my form are bound and I have a lot less coding to do. By hard-coding the connection, I have to bind the textboxes in code. Is that the only difference?
im trying to configure a button in a .net healthcare application with the aid of a wizard that allows 3rd party integrations with other applications. The process has been documented, including the scripting in a PDF document produced by the manufacturer (siemens) and distributed to me as an IT administrator.Im now trying to configure the integration button and thankfully there is a test button as part of the wizard that verifys the script - which is returning the error: "Expression is a value and therefore cannot be the target of an assignment"
here is the script:
Option Strict Off Imports System Imports System.Windows.Forms

the line below "create command" seems be be causing the problem. This is the executable that should launch, displaying the same patient in ialauncher.exe?
i made a browser with vb.net 08 pro i made index.html file as i open my browser it should automatically open the index.html where should i keep the index.html file and how to configure the code?
I have a report where I need the same data, but for four separate date ranges. Currently this data is based on one month, so it's just one dataset. But now I am trying to do this with four separate datasets, where each one is filtered on each of the four date ranges. I setup my WHILE loop to loop thru all four dates. But I'm having trouble now with distinct naming these datasets. Is this the best way to do this? It looks like if I used multiple datatables for one dataset, I'd have to define each datatable column. Here is my current dataset commandstring
I have 4 ComboBoxen and 1 DatagridView into one Form. I make a code, for binding with 5 tables, each is own dataSet and dataAdaptor Is it possible to use one DataSet and one DataAdaptor for 5 Tables, so my code become shorter.
I think the solution is a SQL SELECT query, but i dont no for sure.If it is a SELECT query, ore something else, cane anybody help with make the code i need.
I've created a Windows Form app in VB however I've decided the format is best suited to a Wizard style app. I've read a bit about creating wizards however I was hoping VS 2010 had a wizard to create wizards :) From what I've read there is a lot of coding to be done to create a simple wizard. Am I wrong ? Perhaps there is a third party app which generates the base wizard code?
I originally created a process that occurred by transitioning between views in a multiview and it worked fine. Now, I've moved this same code into a ASP.NET Wizard and it keeps throwing an error at the second step. The error is:Method 'System.Object AndObject(System.Object, System.Object)' has no supported translation to SQL.Any ideas why this would occur when moving the code into the wizard? I'm sure its something stupid, but I've checked over the code 3-4 times now and it appears identical operationally. Here is the code:[code]
Below is the part of code which I was working right now. Here what i am doing is checking whether the string is from header or div using [code] but i dont need this hard code. Can u provide me any alternative to this code. [code]
I am attempting to hard code a richtextbox that has multiline characters upon the Load_Event. However, whenever I use the "&controlchars.newline _ " I get a syntax error and end of statement expected error.
I'm creating a program that users will login to and I'm trying to make different user levels. I have the login and registration part done. But i need the user levels part. I know i can use a billion if then statements for each admin i have but that will be thousands lines of code afterwards. So I thought up maybe i can check the column name admin and see if its set to true. Or even check another table to see if the user is in that table then load a different form.
Dim conn As MySqlConnection 'connect to DB conn = New MySqlConnection()
[CODE].................
Also I'm using Visual Studio 2008 express and was wondering if this would work also even though its for 2005 Do to I see the flaw in hard coding it into the program. Any hacker who de .exe it can get a hold of my information and use it against me. And if not how would i go about in 2008 and use it. [URL]
What used to be C:Documents and SettingsAll UsersApplication Data is now Win7 as C:UsersPublicPublic Documents or similar..This folder is not part of the Environment.SpecialFolders list. Is there another way to expose the above Public folder?I'm hoping you can programatically use that location for non virtualized read/write/alluser files.
At the end of the re-installation of Visual Studio 2008, there is this message: "Microsoft SQL Publishing Wizard: [2] Error: Installation failed for component Microsoft SQL Publishing Wizard. MSI returned error code 1638" in the log file dd_error_vs_procore_90.txt.
When I searched for just "MSI returned error code 1638", I got that it cannot install something because it is already installed: "Another version of this product is already installed. Installation of this version cannot continue. To configure or remove the existing version of this product, use Add/Remove Programs on the Control Panel".
In Add/Remove Programs I see these two programs: Microsoft SQL Server Database Publishing Wizard 1.3 Microsoft SQL Server Database Publishing Wizard 1.4
Are these programs/versions what the error is refering to? Am I safe to remove them and depend on the similarly-named item which would be newly installed with Visual Studio 2008 - "Microsoft SQL Publishing Wizard"?
I still use SQL Server 2000 and 2005 on my computer, as well as 2008.
I had installed VS 2008 on my computer before without this problem and also have VS 2005 and 2010.
I already know how to call insert, update, delete & select procedures in DataSet.xsd window. And I also know how to call queries by table adapters. But I just found out that its not possible to call all functions by queries (such as insert). It works when I test the query but when I try to add it, it says "Failed to get schema for this query". So I built a few stored procedures which do many functions (such as transaction, insert, update etc...). But I am unable to use these stored procedures in VB form. I found some tutorials mentioning that it can be done by defining connections and some other stuffs with which I don't want this to be. I want to call these procedures by writing code in VB code editor window with DataSets, TableAdapters, BindingSource etc...
The drive is connected via USB and the problem I'm having is that, periodically, while my code is executing, the usb drive seems to disconnect and reconnect. (Nothing to do with the program, but the drive itself).I want to find a way to prevent these temporary drive reconnects from interrupting my code. IE, i want to insure that whatever read or write that is requested is actually executed even in the case of a temporary drive interruption.
I'd like to set the IP address, Subnet mask, gateway and DNS on a windows XP machine though a VB form. I have 2 methods for this. Do everything though VB functions or set environment variables on the machine. I've created a batch file that just uses the netsh command. That works but I'd like the better interface.
I'm using the following code successfully with HTTP but I would like to use SSL. When I change the endpoint address to https and modify the security mode to Transport in the web.config I get the error : "The provided URI scheme 'https' is invalid; expected 'http'."
This is a VB.net test form.

i've trin' to setup in my server, a connection to my Microsoft sql server, in order to develop an web application using this type of tech. Of course, VB.Net. after tryin to research an aspx.net here in msdn, i havent found yet anything.
I have my connection string "on", pointed to Windows Authentication. I've changed to A new login created in Microsoft SQL Management Studio (sql Server 2008), such as a user guest.testing locally, the asp.net develop server is up and running because it uses my domain credentials. If testing by access in my website, like a guest, it throws an execption pointing to a Login Failed. I've tried so, with my own credentials, and not succeded.
i need to set up membership for my first website, as i was told i have followed the following steps:1. website --> ASP .NET configuration2. select teh security tab If my admin tool works fine , then it should display the following
1. users - allows to create and manage users2. Role - enable roles3. Access rules - create and manage access rules But my security tab doesnt display those otpions instead it displays an error as:
Code:"There is a problem with your selected data store. This can be caused by an invalid server name or credentials, or by insufficient permission. It can also be caused by the role manager feature not being enabled. Click the button below to be redirected to a page where you can choose a new data store.

Then i followed it's instructions, clicked on choose datastore and configured the provider, according to the web admin tool the "single provider" passed the test.
Then i closed the adin tool and restarted it. but still the above error occurs. How can i fix this? PS: this happens even when i disable the firewall!
Dim SQLconnect As New SqlConnection("server=DEVSERVERDEVSQL;" & _ "integrated security=sspi;database=WDA_SQL") Dim SQLqry As New SqlCommand("SELECT CustomerID, ContactTitle, ContactFirstName, ContactLastName, ActionDate, OpenedBy, LastAccess, Lock FROM CollectionsVIEW WHERE (FileLocal = 'Coll-DL1 Sent') AND (Lock = '1')", SQLconnect)
We have a small app that was converted from 2003 to 2005 to 2008. All was fine until i needed to alter the sql associated with a datatable. When i tried to 'configure' the datatable by right-clicking & selecting 'configure', the configure option was not activated. It was decided that what i needed to do was create a new web application in 2008, add the datasets within 2008, then either import &/or cut & paste the old forms & other pices into the new project. However, when i go to configure my new datatable in my new dataset, i have the same problem... configure option is not activated. What can i do to configure these datatables?
I need to holds the common settings for all of the apps ona server (UNC path). Previously I used an ini file on the server and the application was told to look there via a command switch.
I understand that I'm trying to use .net in an old fashioned way by not packaging it for web update & delivery but that's a contraint of the architecture I need to work with.
Is there any way to force my application to use the application.exe.config file from a set location rather than the user data area that .net automatically writes it to? Even if not on a server path, then in the application directory where we can push update it?
