IDE - Create Base Wizard Code

May 13, 2012

I've created a Windows Form app in VB however I've decided the format is best suited to a Wizard style app. I've read a bit about creating wizards however I was hoping VS 2010 had a wizard to create wizards :) From what I've read there is a lot of coding to be done to create a simple wizard. Am I wrong ? Perhaps there is a third party app which generates the base wizard code?

How To Create Actual 'wizard' That Allows Users To Use It To Create Their Own Forms

Dec 1, 2010

I've designed my own encryption application in VB 2008 that has a free tools section where users can choose a particular wizard to use from the drop down. The javascript wizards display the code required to put in their own sites. I already created wizards that users can well, use.I see people have their own "contact form wizards" on their websites all the time. Where users can use the wizard and get the displayed code to copy and paste on their sites. But trying to locate source codes to these things is very aggravating on the web.So what I want to do is create my own "form wizard" like out of javascript, that allows the user to put in some information then get the displayed code to put in their own websites. I'm not looking for the generator such as the online form generators. But the javascript source code(s) for the generator itself. Then I could simply put a form generator inside of my VB-app, that will allow the user to use the wizard, then get the html code to paste in their own sites. Preferably not the PHP one because the php backend is very difficult to put in a VB app.I know that it can be done. For example copying a web pages source code then putting it inside a string, then calling that string from a button click that will open the javascript page in the webbrowser inside the VB app.

Create A Custom Wizard Control?

Feb 24, 2009

I have been asked to build a custom wizard control in VB.NET for a windows forms project. It has been made very clear to me that I am not "allowed" to utilize existing wizard controls on the internet due to some obscure logic surrounding copyrights. It has also been made clear to me that we are not "allowed" to use usercontrols in the software.

Do I know just modify the stored procedure used for storing the users record? how would I add a dropdown list for this?[code]

How To Create Wizard Style Form(s)

Aug 15, 2011

I have began building a piece of software that needs to collect a series of information from the user. This information will all be based on what has already been entered. I would like to create a window that has a "NEXT" button in it. As they enter information, they can click NEXT to continue on, similar to how an install wizard works.

My question is... Is there a form type that does this? Or must I create a window with a next button, and when it is clicked, I need to set the visibility of buttons/listboxes/comboboxes/textboxes/etc to false and new ones to true?

WinForms - How To Create Wizard Style UI

Jul 5, 2011

The idea is that I would have a set of forms, users would click through a "forward" and "back" button, and the current form would change to a different one. My issue is that I can write code that just pops up a new form, but im not sure how to do a "replacement" of my current form. How is this usually done?

Code That Worked With MultiView Fails With Wizard ASP.NET

Mar 29, 2010

I originally created a process that occurred by transitioning between views in a multiview and it worked fine. Now, I've moved this same code into a ASP.NET Wizard and it keeps throwing an error at the second step. The error is:Method 'System.Object AndObject(System.Object, System.Object)' has no supported translation to SQL.Any ideas why this would occur when moving the code into the wizard? I'm sure its something stupid, but I've checked over the code 3-4 times now and it appears identical operationally. Here is the code:[code]

Configure Datasets Using Wizard Or Hard Code?

May 14, 2010

I'm using vb.net and have a small project that displays data from a SQL Server database. I used the Data Source Configuration Wizard to create a dataset. I've noticed web sites and code samples that show coding to connect to a database and I've tried that with success. But I'm wondering what the difference is between the two and which is better to use. The only difference I can tell so far is that by using the wizard, the textboxes on my form are bound and I have a lot less coding to do. By hard-coding the connection, I have to bind the textboxes in code. Is that the only difference?

Re-create The Database Connection Wizard Like One Used In Visual Studio?

Jun 27, 2011

I basically want to make this in my application, so our technicians have an easier time installing our software. So far, I made a form with 4 text boxes: Server name, user name, password, and a combo-box to select a database.Everything was pretty easy until the database selection code. Microsoft's wizard is very efficient, there's no wait time when the database combo box is being filled.[code]That code gets the databases just fine, but obviously if an exception happens the whole screen locks up and it might take a while to recover depending on what the database error is. My question is, can I make mine just as cool/efficient as Microsoft's?

VS 2008 Microsoft SQL Publishing Wizard - MSI Returned Error Code 1638

Jan 3, 2012

At the end of the re-installation of Visual Studio 2008, there is this message: "Microsoft SQL Publishing Wizard: [2] Error: Installation failed for component Microsoft SQL Publishing Wizard. MSI returned error code 1638" in the log file dd_error_vs_procore_90.txt.

When I searched for just "MSI returned error code 1638", I got that it
cannot install something because it is already installed: "Another version of this product is already installed. Installation of this version cannot continue. To configure or remove the existing version of this product, use Add/Remove Programs on the Control Panel".

In Add/Remove Programs I see these two programs:
Microsoft SQL Server Database Publishing Wizard 1.3
Microsoft SQL Server Database Publishing Wizard 1.4

Are these programs/versions what the error is refering to? Am I safe to remove them and depend on the similarly-named item which would be newly installed with Visual Studio 2008 - "Microsoft SQL Publishing Wizard"?

I still use SQL Server 2000 and 2005 on my computer, as well as 2008.

I had installed VS 2008 on my computer before without this problem and also have VS 2005 and 2010.

Anyone Used ConQAT With A Code Base

Feb 16, 2010

To quote from the ConQAT - Continuous Quality Assessment Toolkit website Long-lived software systems are subject to gradual quality decay if no counter measures are taken. Continuous quality control counters this decay through an orchestrated application of constructive and analytic quality assurance techniques. The Continuous Quality Assessment Toolkit ConQAT provides the tool-support required to enact continuous quality control in practice. It supports the rapid development of quality dashboards that integrate diverse quality analysis methods and tools. However before I spend lots of time looking at it, is it usefull for a VB.NET project?

I have some ideas of creating it but really don't know how to move on.I already have some word files and pdf files where I have some troubleshooting steps and solutions, so i would like to create a search engine which searches the exact word file or a pdf file to show the result.

To make it simple just like google search engine. If I type something like "How to configure a network printer?" I should get the result of the word document or pdf file which has printer configuration steps.

Forms :: Create Tabs Copy Controls From Base Tab To New One?

Nov 3, 2009

I have a tab (created in the form developer) that contains about a dozen controls. I need to be able to clone this tab w/all controls. I have no problem creating the forms. However, the controls don't copy. This is true whether I create the new tab with a string:

TabPages.Add(MO.Name)Or with a tab object assigned to the base form:

Dim NewTab As New TabPage
NewTab = MyBaseTabPage
TabPages.Add(NewTab)

In either case, my first tab has everything it should have the other tabs have, the other tabs have only the tab name.Basically, I want to be able to clone my base tab into n number of tabs.

VS2008/VB: Moving Subclass VB Code To Inherited Base Class - Where Should Variables/objects Be Declared

Jun 3, 2009

In re-engineering a windows forms application, I find that a lot of code-behind in the various form classes is duplicative and I'm trying to centralize as many procedures as possible into a base class which can be inherited and used by the subclassed forms.

This process seems to be going well and is making the code in my subclasses much simpler and hopefully easier to maintain, but I'm not sure where to draw the line between leaving code in the subclasses and engineering for generic resusability and moving it to the base class.

Specifically, in some subclasses I have code which manipulates variables and objects specific to the subclass, and although I could move the code-behind into the base class, the base class code references specific objects which are needed to compile. For example, each subclass manipulates a databound datagridview and form detail controls which allows the user to select between multi-record and detailed single-record views of a datatable.

In Visual Basic 2008 do I need to declare dummy data objects in the base class so that the base class will compile? Or is there a way to indicate that the data objects will be provided by the subclass?
