i want to create new data connection using data configuration wizard..when i click on add new data source i looks normaly and wizard started..when i got into "choose your data connection" window and click new connection, windows closed and nothing else was going on..no response, no alert window..nothing..

My application starts with only 3 text boxes and using the Data Wizard it works fine. I want to expand it to give the user a way to select an individual record to review so I dragged a ListBox on to the form onto the form, filled the DataSource and DataMember properties and When I run the program I click on one of the items in the List Box and the proper record fills the Text Boxes.

I have a program on my machine that uses a local SQL Express 2005 database to store information in when the program is running. I want to use some data within said database in my program but for the life of me I cannot seem to get started by adding it as a new data source using the add data source wizard... If I type in the database name it throws an error that it cannot find the database, although I can quite clearly see it using the SQL Express 2005 SQL Server Management Tool.

View 4 RepliesI am a brand new user of MS Visual Basic 2005 Express and MS SQL Server 2005 Express. I have familiarized myself with both programs but have one extremely frustrating problem. Once I open SQL Server, I can not establish a database connection from Visual Basic using the Visual Basic Data Source Configuration Wizard (even if I close SQL Server). If I reboot and open Visual Basic first, I can then connect using the Visual Basic Data Source Configuration Wizard. But then I can not switch to SQL Server and open the database (even if I close Visual Basic). Again, I must reboot to open the database in SQL Server.I suspect there is a setting somewhere that needs to be changed, but I can not find it?

I want to use a connection string like this "Data Source=SQLSERVER;Initial Catalog=mydb;User Id=username;Password=password;" I know I can do that programmatically. Currently we are using a VB script macro created in word to create some fairly simple forms based off of data entered on a data entry form. I am very new to VB, and I have been able to create many applications using forms, but I have absolutely no history creating reports. I have been reading up on the reports, and it looks like they are designed to use with data sources like tables. I merely want to take either data from the entry form, or from data derived internaly from processing the user entered data and populate a defined report "form". I have been searching, but there is so much on printing reports, that I feel overwhelmed. I am not looking for the exact answer as much as a link or place to look for a sample for what I want to do.

View 1 RepliesI have an application that uses Dataset.WriteXML to create a small backup before data is syncronized to a data store (less than a meg).This application has worked well for 5 years now, and all of a sudden with the installation of XML 6.0 SP2 the XML document is not working correctly.I have multiple tables within a Dataset (Company, Contact, Notes, etc...)When WriteXML is called, the first table should be Company, however, the first table is being named Contact with the Company Data in it. The Notes table is being called Contact and so forth. In other words it's not giving the correct names to the tables in the XML File.This appears to be a bug, which is causing great distress on all the companies who have been using this program.

The javascript wizards display the code required to put in their own sites. I already created wizards that users can well, use.I see people have their own "contact form wizards" on their websites all the time. Where users can use the wizard and get the displayed code to copy and paste on their sites. But trying to locate source codes to these things is very aggravating on the web.So what I want to do is create my own "form wizard" like out of javascript, that allows the user to put in some information then get the displayed code to put in their own websites. I'm not looking for the generator such as the online form generators.But the javascript source code(s) for the generator itself.Then I could simply put a form generator inside of my VB-app, that will allow the user to use the wizard, then get the html code to paste in their own sites. Preferably not the PHP one because the php backend is very difficult to put in a VB app.I know that it can be done. For example copying a web pages source code then putting it inside a string, then calling that string from a button click that will open the javascript page in the webbrowser inside the VB app.
View 2 RepliesI am using the TableAdapter Configuration Wizard and under Advanced option I click on "Refresh the data table" and carry through to the end of the wizard. However when I run my code and want to update the dataset on the form I get the error message "Update requires a valid Update Command when passed with DataRow collection with modified rows". So, ok, when I look back at the Dataset with right click and configure I find that that the "Refresh the data table" under Advanced Options is no longer ticked, even though I had ticked it before and finished the wizard. Somewhere along the line the tableAdapter is losing this value.

View 1 RepliesI am creating a project in VB.NET in which one of the reports require that the name of employees should be displayed as column names and whatever work they have done for a stated period should appear in rows below that particular column.Now as it is clear, the columns will have to be added at runtime. Am using an ODBC Data source to populate the grid. Also since a loop will have to be done to find out the work done by employees individually, so the number of rows under one column might be less or more than the rows in the next column.Is there a way to create an empty data table and then update its contents based on columns and not add data based on addition of new rows.
