Connecting Visual Basic To SQL Server Using VB Data Source Configuration Wizard?

Dec 29, 2007

I am a brand new user of MS Visual Basic 2005 Express and MS SQL Server 2005 Express. I have familiarized myself with both programs but have one extremely frustrating problem. Once I open SQL Server, I can not establish a database connection from Visual Basic using the Visual Basic Data Source Configuration Wizard (even if I close SQL Server). If I reboot and open Visual Basic first, I can then connect using the Visual Basic Data Source Configuration Wizard. But then I can not switch to SQL Server and open the database (even if I close Visual Basic). Again, I must reboot to open the database in SQL Server.I suspect there is a setting somewhere that needs to be changed, but I can not find it?

VS 2005 Custom Connection String In Data Source Configuration Wizard?

Apr 17, 2009

I am looking to make a data connection with a network server(sql server 2005). When I run the data source configuration wizard, it allows me only to pick a local database file. I want to use a connection string like this "Data Source=SQLSERVER;Initial Catalog=mydb;User Id=username;Password=password;" I know I can do that programmatically. But I would like to know whether I can do that using the data source wizard so that I will be able to use Bindingsources and tableadapters.

VS 2008 Add Data Source Using The Wizard

Jul 28, 2009

I have a program on my machine that uses a local SQL Express 2005 database to store information in when the program is running. I want to use some data within said database in my program but for the life of me I cannot seem to get started by adding it as a new data source using the add data source wizard... If I type in the database name it throws an error that it cannot find the database, although I can quite clearly see it using the SQL Express 2005 SQL Server Management Tool.

Php - Connecting To A Source Game Server In .NET?

Nov 10, 2009

I'm developing an application that detects Source-based games running on the LAN. Following up on the specifications provided by Valve, I have it narrowed down to exactly what I want: making a UDP connection on port 27015, sending an A2S_INFO query (0xFFFFFFFF followed by "TSource Engine Query") and parsing the binary reply.

This is the code I'm working with:

Dim sIP As String = "192.168.0.154"
Dim nPort As Integer = 27015
Dim connectionMessage As String = "ÿÿÿÿTSource Engine Query" & Chr(0)

IDE :: VBExpress 2010 TableAdapter Configuration Wizard - "Refresh The Data Table" Option Dropping Value?

May 17, 2010

I am using the TableAdapter Configuration Wizard and under Advanced option I click on "Refresh the data table" and carry through to the end of the wizard. However when I run my code and want to update the dataset on the form I get the error message "Update requires a valid Update Command when passed with DataRow collection with modified rows". So, ok, when I look back at the Dataset with right click and configure I find that that the "Refresh the data table" under Advanced Options is no longer ticked, even though I had ticked it before and finished the wizard. Somewhere along the line the tableAdapter is losing this value.

C# - Connecting To A Dynamic Data Source?

Apr 7, 2011

Which technology should I use for data access layer? What's the best way of connecting to a dynamic data source and binding the result to a grid?I'm writing a little web app that user can define connection string and table name (MS Sql Server) and the program will display values in that table inside a grid.We must use datasets (because of dynamic data source) and generate the query as a text command ("Select * From " + TableName). We don't have a model (data source is defined by user at run time) so we can not use EF.

Connecting To An ODBC Data Source In VB 2010 Express?

Jun 20, 2010

I need to connect to an MySQL database in my VB.NET application (VB 2010 Express). When I attempt to use the Data Sources wizard to establish the connection, it does not provide an ODBC data source. I'm using Add New Data Source/Database/DataSet/New Connection which shows the Add Connection dialog. The only options it gives me for data sources are Access & SQL Server and the OLEDB data provider. It does not appear to give me the option of adding a new data source provider. Attached is an image of my current Change Data Source dialog. Where do I get the ODBC data source provider and how do I install it into Visual Studio?
