C# - Connecting To A Dynamic Data Source?

Apr 7, 2011

Which technology should I use for data access layer? What's the best way of connecting to a dynamic data source and binding the result to a grid?I'm writing a little web app that user can define connection string and table name (MS Sql Server) and the program will display values in that table inside a grid.We must use datasets (because of dynamic data source) and generate the query as a text command ("Select * From " + TableName). We don't have a model (data source is defined by user at run time) so we can not use EF.

Connecting To An ODBC Data Source In VB 2010 Express?

Jun 20, 2010

I need to connect to an MySQL database in my VB.NET application (VB 2010 Express). When I attempt to use the Data Sources wizard to establish the connection, it does not provide an ODBC data source. I'm using Add New Data Source/Database/DataSet/New Connection which shows the Add Connection dialog. The only options it gives me for data sources are Access & SQL Server and the OLEDB data provider. It does not appear to give me the option of adding a new data source provider. Attached is an image of my current Change Data Source dialog. Where do I get the ODBC data source provider and how do I install it into Visual Studio?

Connecting Visual Basic To SQL Server Using VB Data Source Configuration Wizard?

Dec 29, 2007

I am a brand new user of MS Visual Basic 2005 Express and MS SQL Server 2005 Express. I have familiarized myself with both programs but have one extremely frustrating problem. Once I open SQL Server, I can not establish a database connection from Visual Basic using the Visual Basic Data Source Configuration Wizard (even if I close SQL Server). If I reboot and open Visual Basic first, I can then connect using the Visual Basic Data Source Configuration Wizard. But then I can not switch to SQL Server and open the database (even if I close Visual Basic). Again, I must reboot to open the database in SQL Server.I suspect there is a setting somewhere that needs to be changed, but I can not find it?

Php - Connecting To A Source Game Server In .NET?

Nov 10, 2009

I'm developing an application that detects Source-based games running on the LAN. Following up on the specifications provided by Valve, I have it narrowed down to exactly what I want: making a UDP connection on port 27015, sending an A2S_INFO query (0xFFFFFFFF followed by "TSource Engine Query") and parsing the binary reply.

This is the code I'm working with:

Dim sIP As String = "192.168.0.154"
Dim nPort As Integer = 27015
Dim connectionMessage As String = "ÿÿÿÿTSource Engine Query" & Chr(0)

IDE :: Data Source Disappeared - Recreate My Data Source From The Entry That Is In App?

Feb 10, 2012

I refreshed my data sources to include additional items from the SQL Server databases and it appears that my entire data source from my VB.NET project disappeared.I am using Entity Framework. I may have clicked on something wrong, not quite sure. Unfortunately I can't recreate the Data Source without creating a new Entity and Data Model.I can delete the entry in the App.Config file and recreated it, however things aren't quite right. Is there a way that I can recreate my Data Source from the entry that is in my App.Config file...since that appears to have remained intact.BTW, I can go to my Data Model and successfully refresh from there, however my project isn't connecting to the database so I have quite a number of errors until I can get reconnected.

Connecting To Data In Objects?

Jan 23, 2008

I am currently working my way through a MSDN Walkthrough titled Connecting to Data in Objects, the link for this is

[URL]

I have worked up to the section Adding Code to Load Data into the Customer and Order Objects section with no problems, but the Public Class Form 1 code is throwing an error hilighted in italics as per below,

Private Sub LoadOrders(ByRef currentCustomer As Customer) Dim orderData As NorthwindDataSet.OrdersDataTable = _ OrdersTableAdapter1.GetDataByCustomerID(currentCustomer.CustomerID)

This is the Description returned from the error list,

Error 1
Description - Value of type 'ObjectBindingWalkthrough.NorthwindDataSet.OrdersRow' cannot be converted to 'ObjectBindingWalkthrough.NorthwindDataSet.OrdersDataTable'.

[code]....

In the walkthrough I also came across a problem under the heading Modifying the Query on the OrdersTableAdapter to Return Only Orders for the Desired Customer This SQL throws an error,

SELECT OrderID, CustomerID, EmployeeID, OrderDate,
RequiredDate, ShippedDate, ShipVia, Freight,

[code]....

But the following edit to the Where clause gets around the error, the @ symbol is removed,WHERE CustomerID = CustomerIDcould this be causing the problems I am having described above, or is this just an error.

Connecting To Data Sources In VB?

Mar 10, 2011

I am a novice to programming and am working my way through one of the more popular books on VB in VS 2008 Pro. I am havng a probelm setting up to add dataset controls to a form. I can establish a connection to the data base (a dataset is created and I can preview the data), but the table adapters and binding sources are not being automatically added to the form by the IDE. This seems to be verified by the fact that I cannot drag and drop controls from the data source window to the form.

Connect A VB Application To An MS Access DB By Adding A Data Source From The Data Menu?

Jul 7, 2011

I'm trying to connect a VB application (2010) to an MS Access DB by adding a data source from the data menu but I receive this error message "The connection you selected uses a local data file that is not in the current project.Would you like to copy the file to your project and modify the connection ?

If you copy the data file to your project, it will be copied to the project's output directory each time you run the application" and the options are (yes , No , Help)

If I choose Yes I will not be able to make the application 'device independent ' since it will not be copied under the bin , and if I choose No , changes won't be applied to the DB

How Is WPF Data Binding Using Object Data Source In Visual Studio 2010 Done

Apr 23, 2010

how to use the VS 2010 IDE tools in a way the Microsofties didn't specifically intend. But since this is something I immediately tried without success.

I have defined a .NET 4.0 WPF Application project with a simple class that looks like this:

Public Class Class1
Public Property One As String = "OneString"
Public Property Two As String = "TwoString"

[Code]....

The expected result was that "OneString" would appear next to "One" and "TwoString" next to "Two" in the running window.

The question is: Why didn't this work? What will work instead? If I put bindings in a DataTemplate, it works. Blend, with its sample data stuff, implied that this should work, but it doesn't.

Multiple Combo Boxes Showing Data From The Same Data Source?

May 10, 2010

I have 5 combo boxes that need to show the same list of items that come from a single dataset table. I have managed to bind the datatable to the combo boxes no problem at all.. but when I run the application and select an item from one of the combo boxes all the others change to the item I selected. After some research I believe that this problem is something to do with using the one datasource so I have tried assigning the dataset datatable to 2 different variables and used them as datasources for 2 of the comboboxes but the same still happens.

A work around to this I can see is to call the same methods and SQL select statements 5 times over to get individual datasources for each combo box but this doing that sounds crazy to me. how I can get around this easily? Code snippet below shows 2 combox boxes and their datasources. I'm using VS2005, .Net 2

ComboBox1.DropDownStyle = ComboBoxStyle.DropDownList
ComboBox1.DataSource = AllergyListDataSet.Tables("ListOfAllergies")
ComboBox1.DisplayMember = "Condition"

Access Other Data Fields From Combo Box Data Source?

Nov 4, 2009

I have a combo box with a data source. This box shows one column of a table and allows me to select one item.Next, I have an ordinary text LABEL that I need to put text from another column of the item selected above.I tried to set the data binding field of the label, but this grabs only the first row or data and shows the selected column. That is nice, but I can not figure out how to update the selected selected ROW when the combo box item is changed. In this case the combo box lists a bunch of inventory parts. When I select a specific part, I need the change the text in a label to show the manufacturer. (like a sub-form). This same behavior will be used in several other places, but the relationships can cascade.

DB/Reporting :: Connecting And Pulling Data From MS SQL Database?

I was wondering which way would be the easiest in VS2005 to connect to and pull data from a MS SQL database. I have already setup the database connection by choosing the datasource for a DataGridView but I'm not able to retreive any information.

The steps I have taken so far:

1. Make new form

2. Drag and drop DataGridView onto the form

3. Setup the data source and respective username password

Not sure where to go from here....
