I have recently installed Visual Studio .NET (Pro Edition) and I have tried to run the Data Form Wizard and get an error after entering the "Name" for the dataset and hitting "Next". An error message pops up and says "An unexpected error has occured: Specified argument was out of the range of valid values.Parameter name '0' is not a valid value for 'index'.

View 3 RepliesI have created a wizard with 5 different panels. It works perfectly in debug mode, and when I try it as an exe on my machine, it is fine also, BUT when on another machine the forms get all scrunched up. See attached picture. I checked the settings and they both have the same.
View 2 RepliesI am trying out the Visual Studio 2008 Standard Edition Setup and Deployment - Setup Wizard on a very simple VB 2008 app which includes a simple SQL Express dB. The build works fine and it installs on the target system ok. But when I go to run the application and add a new record for example, I get a "read-only" error indicating that the sql db is read-only. Yet none of the files in the folder are read-only. What is odd is that the folder that it was installed into "acts" like it is read only, yet it is not identified as such. If I move the .exe and db files out of that folder, (onto the desktop for example) it works just fine. Should I set up a post build event or something to make

When the Wizard comes up I click on Database, Next, New Connection, Data Source is Microsoft Access Dagabase File (OLE DB), Browse to Database File Name, Test Connection is successful, click on OK, then Next. A MSVS box appears "The connection selected uses a local data file that is not in the current project. "Would you lie to copy the file to your project and modify the connection?"I am supposed to click NO. When I do I get this "Wizard Form" "An unexpected error has occurred. My application starts with only 3 text boxes and using the Data Wizard it works fine. I want to expand it to give the user a way to select an individual record to review so I dragged a ListBox on to the form onto the form, filled the DataSource and DataMember properties and When I run the program I click on one of the items in the List Box and the proper record fills the Text Boxes.

I have a program on my machine that uses a local SQL Express 2005 database to store information in when the program is running. I want to use some data within said database in my program but for the life of me I cannot seem to get started by adding it as a new data source using the add data source wizard... If I type in the database name it throws an error that it cannot find the database, although I can quite clearly see it using the SQL Express 2005 SQL Server Management Tool.
View 7 RepliesI have began building a piece of software that needs to collect a series of information from the user. This information will all be based on what has already been entered. I would like to create a window that has a "NEXT" button in it. As they enter information, they can click NEXT to continue on, similar to how an install wizard works.
My question is... Is there a form type that does this? Or must I create a window with a next button, and when it is clicked, I need to set the visibility of buttons/listboxes/comboboxes/textboxes/etc to false and new ones to true?
At the end of the re-installation of Visual Studio 2008, there is this message: "Microsoft SQL Publishing Wizard: [2] Error: Installation failed for component Microsoft SQL Publishing Wizard. MSI returned error code 1638" in the log file dd_error_vs_procore_90.txt.
When I searched for just "MSI returned error code 1638", I got that it
cannot install something because it is already installed: "Another version of this product is already installed. Installation of this version cannot continue. To configure or remove the existing version of this product, use Add/Remove Programs on the Control Panel".
In Add/Remove Programs I see these two programs:
Microsoft SQL Server Database Publishing Wizard 1.3
Microsoft SQL Server Database Publishing Wizard 1.4
Are these programs/versions what the error is refering to? Am I safe to remove them and depend on the similarly-named item which would be newly installed with Visual Studio 2008 - "Microsoft SQL Publishing Wizard"?
I still use SQL Server 2000 and 2005 on my computer, as well as 2008.
I had installed VS 2008 on my computer before without this problem and also have VS 2005 and 2010.

View 1 RepliesI have an ASP.NET page with a Wizard control containing several pages of form fields. The data is collected and inserted to a database from the code behind page. I need to set this form up so you can not only insert, but edit a record as well. Since the form is long and complex, I would rather use the existing one and not make a duplicate one for editing, especially since I want to keep both forms exactly the same and any edits would have to be made to both. But it looks like this is what I need to do if I'm going to databind it. But this would also involve putting the Wizard inside of a FormView, and then I'd have to use FindControl to access any of the fields which would mean altering all my already-existing code (which of course would be time-consuming). So should I manually enter all the values from the code behind instead of databinding it? Which is better, to use a FormView and have duplicate forms (plus have to go in and redo the way I access the fields), or to do everything from the code behind?
View 2 RepliesI am a brand new user of MS Visual Basic 2005 Express and MS SQL Server 2005 Express. I have familiarized myself with both programs but have one extremely frustrating problem. Once I open SQL Server, I can not establish a database connection from Visual Basic using the Visual Basic Data Source Configuration Wizard (even if I close SQL Server). If I reboot and open Visual Basic first, I can then connect using the Visual Basic Data Source Configuration Wizard. But then I can not switch to SQL Server and open the database (even if I close Visual Basic). Again, I must reboot to open the database in SQL Server.I suspect there is a setting somewhere that needs to be changed, but I can not find it?

I want to use a connection string like this "Data Source=SQLSERVER;Initial Catalog=mydb;User Id=username;Password=password;" I know I can do that programmatically. But I would like to know whether I can do that using the data source wizard so that I will be able to use Bindingsources and tableadapters.
View 4 RepliesI am using the TableAdapter Configuration Wizard and under Advanced option I click on "Refresh the data table" and carry through to the end of the wizard. However when I run my code and want to update the dataset on the form I get the error message "Update requires a valid Update Command when passed with DataRow collection with modified rows". So, ok, when I look back at the Dataset with right click and configure I find that that the "Refresh the data table" under Advanced Options is no longer ticked, even though I had ticked it before and finished the wizard. Somewhere along the line the tableAdapter is losing this value.

View 6 RepliesI'm writing an application that imports and tidy up address data into a cleaned, deduped excel workbook ordered in rows with each column as an address field. One of the issues I've ran into is that we sometimes get a workbook where the multiple address fields are held in a single cell with line breaks. I've written code to extract all of this data out of the excel sheet in to a dataset with each sheet as a table and the address fields contained within. I now want to create a new Excel workbook from this data with the address fields in Row and columns the problem I have is I can Open/create the Workbook but when I try to insert a new Sheet (Table) I get an error saying the Workbook is read only....

It looks to me like it is trying to create the table (Sheet) but has the workbook opened as read only....
I got a serious problem. Though I have made my program newly it shows error. I have used 1280,1024 animation only for first form then used 1280,1024 image for every form. Today I was checking then it was showing me error message for 19th & 20th form. If I use On Error Resume Next then it shows error for another form ; if I use same code there in the menu item I mean so that I can get rid of error when I click to show a form it shows another error. First error message is "InvalidOperationException was unhandeled An error occurred creating the form. See Exception.InnerException for details. The error is parameter is not valid." and second error is "OutofMemoryException was unhandled Exception of type 'System.OutOfMemoryException' was thrown". I have noticed it that it doesnt show error message for those form which have few labels and text boxes. It shows error message for those forms which have 1 menu bar, 2 picture boxes(one is 1280,1024 & another is 250,456), 2 group boxes, 40 labels, 3 combo boxes, 38 text boxes & three buttons. Please help me I need to get rid of this problem. Does it mean that I cant use unlimited control there in my form?

The Form Designer in the IDE is no longer working properly. When I create a new project, the Form Designer will work, but after I save it and close the IDE and reopen the next day the Form Designer no longer shows the form and instead says "To prevent possible data loss before loading the designer, the following errors must be resolved: An Error occurred while parsing EntityName.Line 2, position 62" If I click ignore and continue, then it just displays a blank form with no controls. The problem appears to have started after I unistalled and reinstalled VB2008 Express.
