Open/ Modify Excel Through ADO.net - Error: System.Data.Odbc.OdbcException: ERROR [42000]
Jun 22, 2010
I'm writing an application that imports and tidy up address data into a cleaned, deduped excel workbook ordered in rows with each column as an address field. One of the issues I've ran into is that we sometimes get a workbook where the multiple address fields are held in a single cell with line breaks. I've written code to extract all of this data out of the excel sheet in to a dataset with each sheet as a table and the address fields contained within. I now want to create a new Excel workbook from this data with the address fields in Row and columns the problem I have is I can Open/create the Workbook but when I try to insert a new Sheet (Table) I get an error saying the Workbook is read only....
Private Sub MakeSimpleXL(ByRef DsTemp As DataSet)
Dim dsTable As Data.DataTable
Dim tblName As String
Dim dsRow As Data.DataRow
[CODE]...
Here is the error: System.Data.Odbc.OdbcException: ERROR [42000] [Microsoft][ODBC Excel Driver] Cannot modify the design of table '3 _ 10$'. It is in a read-only database. at System.Data.Odbc.OdbcConnection.HandleError(OdbcHandle hrHandle, RetCode retcode) at System.Data.Odbc.OdbcCommand.ExecuteReaderObject(CommandBehavior behavior, String
[CODE]...
It looks to me like it is trying to create the table (Sheet) but has the workbook opened as read only....
i am trying to connect to an MS Access database and I am getting an erro message on the following line of
searchtable_command = New SqlClient.SqlCommand(searchtable_string, testsearch_connection) Error:'System.Data.Odbc.OdbcConnection' cannot be converted to 'System.Data.SqlClient.SqlConnection'.
Here my connection string:
Dim testsearch_connection As New Odbc.OdbcConnection("Provider=MSDASQL;Driver={Microsoft Access Driver (*.mdb)};Dbq=C:CesarAccessdatabase.mdb;Uid=admin;Pwd=;")
I am trying to do something fairly simple.. allow my user to import thier data from Excel into SQL Server, where it can be used by the application. To do this, I'm using the fairly simple code that is common everywhere I look:
Now, on my development computer this code works perfectly. The data imports, and I can go on my merry way.
On the TEST computer, this code throws the error: "ODBC -- Connection to {SQL Server} servernamesqlservername failed." This seems very odd to me, because I'm using exactly the same SQL Server and database to interact with the application, and all the other screens in the application work perfectly. The test computer CAN connect to this SQL Server, but it keeps throwing this error whenever I try import data from Excel.I've tried everything I can think of - using the server's IP address instead of the server name, sending the SQL Server administrator data along with the request, taking out the Trusted_Connection=Yes... nothing works. What is going on here? How can this code work fine on my computer, and hiccup on another?
i am new to vb .net i just want to ask why is it i don't see the odbc data adapter in the toolbox pane? i just have (under data) pointer, dataset, datagridview, bindingsource, and binding navigator.
I've spent a substantial amount of time trying to figure this out, but I keep getting the same error
A first chance exception of type 'System.Data.OleDb.OleDbException' occurred in System.Data.dll A first chance exception of type 'System.NullReferenceException' occurred in project1.exe
This happens when I try to use the DataReader.my code is
Public Function Identification() As List(Of Integer) Dim returnIndex As New List(Of Integer) Dim dbCount As String = "SELECT Bookingid FROM bookdetail WHERE Date =" & getCurrentTimeString() & " 12:00:00 a.m." Dim count As Integer = 0
I'm connecting to my mysql server using ODBC in vb.net, the database is shared throughout the company because it is used in an accounting program (simply accounting), each user has their own account user/pass to login to the database. I have developped a program that uses the accounting database and combines it with other information, my problem is that at least once a day I get this error when I run my program: "(10061) ERROR [HY000] [MySQL][ODBC 3.51 Driver]Can't connect to MySQL server on"and the error persists for at least 4 hours, for some reason it starts to work again later on in the day.
I am using VS 2008, Office 2007, and Win7 Home Premium on my system.I have a simple application which should be a breeze to build. All I am attempting to do is pull data from an Access database with four small tables into a data grid on a windows project. Should be simple, set up the data connection, choose a datagrid from the table in the data source view, drag it onto the page and done, right?I can't get it to work. It will all work fine until I attempt to run or debug the project. The data will not show up. The data grid does, but I get this error: A first chance exception of type 'System.InvalidOperationException' occurred in System.Data.dll
As I said, the project seems to build fine, but it will not pull the data. After the initial build I get the message that Windows will show this page in Compatibility View. Is it something with Win7 Home Premium, or a setting somewhere?
I have a windows service written in .NET 2.0 that will run every 5 minutes and executes bunch oracle SQL/PLSQL scripts based on time/validation, it throws the above said error some times against some SQLs, the same SQLs run fine at later point without any error, I have no idea what is going on with the app. I am not sure if this has any thing to do with oracle connection pool as I am properly closing the connections after every SQL execution.
Exception:
System.Exception: Unexpected return code: 1 at System.Data.OracleClient.DBObjectPool.GetObject(Object owningObject, Boolean& isInTransaction) at System.Data.OracleClient.OracleConnectionPoolManager.GetPooledConnection(String encryptedConnectionString,
The last line throws an exception "Cannot open file" with certain end-user profiles. It works perfectly fine when executing from an Admin account. I just cannot figure out what user privileges and access settings may cause the error. Note that it also works with some end-user accounts (not admins). What missing user rights can cause this?
I am new to this and have almost 0 programming knowledge. I want to automate transferring data from excel spreadsheet to access. i surfed around on the net to see if there were examples of codes that i can copy.this is what i currently have.
I have an error ERROR [22018] [Microsoft][ODBC Microsoft Access Driver] Data type mismatch in criteria expression. and I've been trying to solve this but unfortunately I couldn't get the hack of this error. I'm a newbie in dotNet.
Public Sub LogInContinue(ByVal senter As Object, ByVal e As EventArgs) Dim LibDS As DataSet = New DataSet Dim LibDA As OdbcDataAdapter = New OdbcDataAdapter("SELECT * FROM tblUserAccount WHERE Uname='" & txtUserName.Text & "'", LibConn)
I made an aplication on windows XP and VB.Net 2008 and works fine, but I moved to Windows 7 and Visual Studio 11 Beta and it wont let me build my aplication and displays this error When I double click on the error msg a window pops up a says "There is no editor available for C:(file path)AssemblyInfo.vb
I'm creating a tool that will query Excel and intialize the default settings for the site's Cad Software.I want 2-20 users to be able to simultaneously query excel. Currently I have the spreadsheet open on one computer and the other test machine gives me this error.
GetOleDbSchema Table Require an open and available connection. The connections state is closed.
I could use some help on the code design. Should I use Datareader instead....Does that have less permissions issues? Or do I need to open up the oledbconnection in a different manner?
Do While rdr2.Read() Dim var1 As String = rdr2.Item("Week").ToString Dim var2 As String = rdr2.Item("L1").ToString Dim var3 As String = rdr2.Item("L2").ToString
It generates the following error: A first chance exception of type 'System.Data.SqlServerCe.SqlCeException' occurred in System.Data.SqlServerCe.dll
Interestingly, if I use a numeric value for the variable it for LSArraytemp, it writes to the database no problem at all.
ConnectionString = "Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0; Data Source='" + fileName + "'; Extended Properties=Excel 5.0" Dim ExcelConnection As System.Data.OleDb.OleDbConnection ExcelConnection = New System.Data.OleDb.OleDbConnection(ConnectionString)
Error occurs on line ExcelConnection.Open()External table is not in the expected format.
This error first appear to occur randomly. Steps to recreate:Open Visual Studio and load a solution (some files automatically opened) - this is when the problem occurs Close all open files Restart visual studio and load solution (no issues)Open Exactly the same files again, restart visual studio and load solution so files open automatically (problem occurs!)
However, when trying to narrow it down to a single file (that is automatically opened when the solution is loaded), I couldn't reproduce the problem. Now with all the files open again the problem doesn't occur!!! So it looks like it is fixed - though this happened before and eventually the issue came back.
I think it is to do with one of the user controls with DevExpress controls on it - when the error occurs, the designer displays the error. Though I can't reproduce it at the moment to confirm that.
I can't get past this error in my loop through the data reader specifically dr(12). I tried adding .To String but that doesn't seem to work either. Can someone help me with what need to do so it can read even if there is a Null value. My code is below:
While objDataReader.Read() 'Set up DataRow object Dim dr As DataRow = DataReaderTable.NewRow
I'm using the Microsoft Excel Driver to import an Excel document into a adodb.recordset so that I can remove duplicate rows and put it into the SQL Server database.
The first column has values like 192, 13U, JJJ, etc. but for some reason the query casts it as a double value, and any rows with alpha values get converted to Null. From what I can tell this is because the Majority type is numeric instead of text.
I tried casting it, but got an error.
Here's my function:
Function Read_Excel(ByVal sFile As String) As ADODB.Recordset On Error GoTo fix_err Dim rs As ADODB.Recordset
I'm receiving this error from the ODBC SQL Driver as mentioned :- ERROR [07002] [Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver]COUNT field incorrect or syntax error.
I cant see what is wrong with my SQL statement syntax [code]...
ERROR [42000] [MySQL][ODBC 5.1 Driver][mysqld-5.1.41]You have an error in your SQL syntax;check the manual that corresponds to your MySQL server version for the right syntax to use near 'Int,Agi,Money) VALUES('MyUsername','MyPassword',0,0,0,0)' at line 1
Any links to good descriptions and/or tutorials (with VB.net 2008) on OdbcDataReader? I tried, but didn't find many. MSDN is not such a good help in this case.
I am trying to perform a simple bound connection between an Access database and a text box on a form. This is actually Chapter 18 of the "Microsoft Visual Basic 2008" book.I get the same error message when trying to create my own project "MY ADO Form" or the "ADO Form" project supplied from the DVD provided with the book. I am running the 90 Day Trial Version of Visual Studio 2008 with SP1 and Net 3.5 SP1.
My operating system is the 64 bit Version of Vista with all updates. The error when I try to run the application in the debug mode is:"A first chance exception of type 'System.InvalidOperationException' occurred in System.Data.dll"and as a result no data shows up in the text box from the database and the data selection bar is grayed out in the form. The underlying database "Students Data Set" appears to be fine as I have seen the correct data for the fields "Instructor" and "PhoneNumber" prior to running the program and when connecting with the database.
I have an InvalidCastException Error in my program. The program is that i try to insert an employee record into a database table after getting the details from a form. I've used Money data type is SQL Server for salary and SqlTypes.SqlDecimal data type in employee template class. i've used a stored procedure to pass the values and i add the basic value by passing a parameter by the method
Dim prm8 As SqlParameter = com.Parameters.Add("@basic", SqlDbType.Money) prm8.Direction = ParameterDirection.Input prm8.Value = emp.Bsc
I've used the money datatype itself even in the stored procedure variable.I get the following error.
failed to convert parameter value from sql decimal to decimal Even if i use prm8.Value = Convert.ToDecimal(emp.Bsc)
I get an error Unable to cast object of type 'System.Data.SqlTypes.SqlDecimal' to type 'System.IConvertible'.
I am getting this error when I am tring to load string type to data table)
Using connection As New SqlConnection("connectionstring;") connection.Open() Using Command As New SqlCommand("SELECT ClientId,forename, surname from t_clientdetails
I am working with Wizard generated dataset. I added this code to a button for update:
transDetailTA.Update(abars.TransactionDetails)
I'm making the changes to a datagridview bound to one of the tables in my dataset and when I make changes and click the update button i receive the following message even though I'm the only one using the DB (I'm working on a laptop):
System.Data.DBConcurrencyException was unhandled Message="Concurrency violation: the UpdateCommand affected 0 of the expected 1 records." RowCount=1
Im using datagridview in asp.net.When im trying to add row using footer template in find error coming up.I have corrected syntax and column is in Database.
