VS 2010 Charting Control Disappeared?

Oct 19, 2010

The charting control has disappeared from my toolbox in VS2010. I know it was there when I upgraded to 2010 a few weeks ago. Both chart items are checked in the Choose Toolbox Items dialog but it doesn't show up in the toolbox. I'm pretty sure it was under the Data category. I tried resetting the toolbox but that didnt bring it back.

Inheritance A Classic React Class Into A User Control To Add The Hight And Width Properties To The Control?

Feb 28, 2011

I tried it and get an error but maybe I'm tring the wrong way. Can a usercontrol inherate an application defined class ie.. could you inheritance a classic rect class into a user control to add the hight and width properties to the control without having to do all the coding all over again? Currently I just declair a private instance of the class within the control and then encapsalate. It would be nice if I could just inherit all the functionality of my classes into controls designed to implament the classes.

I am using the .NET datavisualization library to create some charts. The data is all time series based (ie, the x-axis is dates). I know that I can use custom date and time format strings to format the x-axis labels (formatting from[URL]..But what if I wanted to format the labels via a custom function that isn't provided in the .NET library?

To be more specific, is it possible to format the x-axis labels using the Quarter of the date? In other words:

Get Font Width Without Measuring A Control?

Aug 2, 2010

I need to display a table in rich text within a form window. It is only a two column table, so tabbing works fine to line everything up (since RichTextBox does not support RTF tables). However, sometimes the tab stops are incorrect because of non-fixed width fonts.

So, I need a way to measure the pixel width of a particular string with a particular font (Arial 10) and space or tab pad to make sure that everything aligns.

I know about the Graphics.MeaureString method, but since this is in a rich text box, I don't have an initilzed PaintEventArgs variable, and that would seem like overkill to create JUST to measure one string.

From MSDN:

Private Sub MeasureStringMin(ByVal e As PaintEventArgs)
' Set up string.
Dim measureString As String = "Measure String"

[Code].....

So is the best bet just to create a dummy PaintEventArgs instance? If so, what is the best way to do that (since I'll have to call this string measuring method several hundred times)?

Changing Text Of Custom Control Based On Text Of Another Custom Control

Jan 11, 2010

I am using custom textboxes and I need to be able to set the Text on txb1 based on the Text of txb2. I have simplied my code to the following:

Public Class customtextbox
Inherits TextBox
Public Event ControlReset()

[Code]....

So, when txb1 looses focus, if its Text is "fried", then it sets off txb2's ProcessAlert function. I had tried to change the value of txb2 Text in ProcessAlert function, but didnt work, so I tried to get it to raise an event instead, which then tries to set the Text property. However I still cant set txb2's Text property. The Text property seems to be set for the duration of the "life" of the Event handler. When I step through the forms controls within the Event handler, the changed Text value is there, but not outside of the Event handler.

Charting - Plot Data Using The First Value

Nov 29, 2011

I have been learning and developing a software using VB for my company. I seem to have some issues with Chart function. [Code] Those 2 points will plot 2 datas (xval, finvall) & (xval, finvall2). Here is the thing. When I do the plotting, the starting points are always at (0, 0). That points come from the data point collector editor in the series properties. The question is: How do I plot data using the first value that I have? I don't want to start at (0, 0) but instead using (xval, finvall) & (xval, finvall2). I can't change the data point at run time. Many thanks!
