Conversion From C# To .Net Query?

Dec 11, 2011

I am trying to convert a C# script into VB.Net and for the most part I have been successful. However there are a couple of lines I just cannot figure out since I very rarely work with bitwise operations or hexidecimal values.

VB.Net equivalent of the following:

expandedBytes[pos++] = (byte)IntToHex((b >> 4) & 0xf);
expandedBytes[pos++] = (byte)IntToHex(b & 0x0f);

Keep Getting A Conversion Error When Applying A Sql Query On Datagrid

Apr 9, 2009

I created a form with a datagrid to show data stored in an Access database. It shows the data correctly, using the code:

[code]...

("compras" is the table name and "Comprasver" is the dataset name). The form also has 3 textboxes and 1 DateTimePicker. Then I created a sql query to allow the user to search within 4 fields of the table (field1, field2 and field4 get the data in the textboxes and field3 gets it in the DateTimePicker). The query looks like this: SELECT field1, field2, field3, field4, field5 FROM compras where field1 like "%"+?+"%" and field2 like "%"+?+"%" and field3 like "%"+?+"%" and field5 like "%"+?+"%" field4 is not an important search criteria, so I didn't include it in the query. Field1 and field2 are both string type. Field3 is a Date type and field4 is integer.Once I made the query, it automatically added a toolstrip with a code, which I cut and pasted in my "Search" button "click" event. The code looks like this:

[code]...

But every time I try to search, no matter which criterias I fill in (even if I fill in none of them), I get an error message saying something like the conversion of the "" string into Integer is not valid (my Visual Studio version is in Spanish, so I don't know how to exactly translate the error message). It's supposed to let the user fill in one, more or all search criterias (all 4 search fields).I found out that if I delete from the query the two fields that don't have String type data, it works correctly. What should I do in order to be able to use the Date and Integer type fields as search criterias too?

Asp.net - SQL Query Conversion To LINQ Left Outer Join?

Jul 4, 2009

I've looked all around and spent way to long trying to convert this SQL statement into a Linq statement in VB. I'm sure it would be a good example for others out there - the statement is trying to pull products that have a many-to-many relationship with product categories, and the categories have a hierarchy of parents/children.

Here is the query I am trying to convert:

SELECT P.ProductID, P.ProductName, P.ProductSlug, P.PartNumber
FROM Products AS P
INNER JOIN Products_Categories AS PC ON PC.ProductID = P.ProductID

[code]....

I can get up to the point where I am trying to say "WHERE ... (P_Cats.Parent = 9)" but can't figure that part out.

Text -> Excel Conversion (with Extensive Formatting Required After Conversion)?

May 11, 2012

I'm creating a program in VB.net that does the following:At a high level I receive a file in email, put the attachment in a monitored folder, import the text file to excel, format the excel, and then email the excel file to a list of recipients.

Here is my plan:

Completed: Outlook VBA to monitor all incoming email for specific message. Once message is received drop attached .txt file in a specific network folder.

Completed: (VB.net) Monitor folder, when text file is added begin processing

Not Complete: (VB.net) Import text file to Excel

Not Complete: (VB.net) Format Excel Text file.(add in a row of data, format column headers with color/size, add some blank columns, add data validation to some of the blank columns that allow drop down selections)

Completed: (VB.net) Save file.

Completed: (VB.net) Send file to list of recipients.

Obviously the items above that are not complete are the bulk of the work, but I wanted to get some advice on what some of you think would be the best way to approach something like this. The import and formatting of the file are causing me some problems because I just can't decide what would be the most efficient way to do this.

The way stated above. Import to excel -> format Having a template excel that contains all of the formatting already done for me and attempting to transition the data to this document (no clue if/how I can do this). Is it even feasible? Have the template already created and then import the text file to a new excel file, then transition that data to the excel template?

Something I thought about, in terms of formatting the document, was to record a macro of me doing all of the formatting that I'm going to need and then attempt to convert that macro into my vb.net code, but I'm not sure if that will work. I will need to verify that the text file comes in the EXACT format every time correct?

Asp.net - Complex Linq Query - Add A .Where() Or .Any() Predicate To Reduce Query Complexity (in VB)?

Sep 14, 2010

I have to join two main tables, and I need to filter the results by elements in an ASP.NET web form. These filters are created on the fly so I have to use a lot of where extensions to filter the query. I want to execute the query with as optimized SQL as possible.

I am first doing a simple join between TW_Sites and TW_Investigators. Then there are two sub-tables that are involved. TW_InvestigatorToArea and TW_InvestigatorToDisease. While most of the where clauses are working fine, I have found a performance issue that won't be an issue right now, but will be an issue as the table gets bigger.

The arrays DiseaseCategories and DiseaseAreas would be the results of a CheckBoxList result.

Protected Sub LoadResults()
'Get Dictionary of Filters
Dim FilterDictionary As OrderedDictionary = Session.Item("InvestigatorFilterDictionary")
' Initialize LinqToSql

Asp.net - Complecated SQL Query: Members' Downline Business SQL Query?

Jul 11, 2010

I've got confused at the moment.I've got one database to developed for MLM (Multi level marketing) company.so, there's one Members database.. each member have unique ID called membercode.. and all members can members under them.. can make 2 members down to 1 member.. all members are added in same table named "tbMembers" and for each member there's a "parentID" where I add member's membercode under whome that member is?.. right?

Now what's the matter is .. I want a SQL Query which can go under and under.. like 'John Doe' having two members under him named 'Suzan' and 'Ellie' and 'Suzan' is also having 2 members under her.. and same for Ellie. and for example.. 'John Doe' having about 300 members in his down line? All members are making transactions.. like they purchase product and Invoices are being generated (invoices tables have 'memberID'). Now the query is how to generate query which can calculate John Doe's Downline's TurnOver from invoices table's 'totalAmount' field's SUM?

I'm using Asp.net 2.0 (VB.net) and use SQL Server 2005 Express.

Parameterized Query : Works With Execute Query But Not In Code?

Oct 22, 2009

I have created a parameterized query in my tableadapter. Here is the SQL:

SELECT CalcinerID, Comments, CorrectiveActions, CrucibleOxideWt, CrucibleWeight, DCPressure, DCTemperature,
Date, DischargePressure, FeedPressure, FiredCrucibleOxideWt, GmSampleWt, LIMSNumber, LotNumber, MaterialType,
OperatorID, QualLabOperator, QualLabTimeStamp, RecordID, ToteBinNumber [code]....

When I use the Execute Query button in the Tableadapter Query Builder, the query works fine; I get all the rows I expect. However, when I run this in my code, the query behaves like an equality statement (i.e. Lotnumber = @Lotnumber) rather than a LIKE statement (Lotnumber LIKE '%' + @Lotnumber + '%').Here is the code that is not behaving correctly. Note that I have a textbox, LotSearchTextbox, where I enter the portion of the Lotnumber that I want to use as the filter. I also have a button, LotSearchButton:

Private Sub LotSearchButton_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles LotSearchButton.Click
Try
Dim SomeNumber As Integer = Me.LotCalcinerO2TableAdapter.FillByLotNumber(Me.CalcinerDBDataSet.LotCalcinerO2,[code].....

why the query works in the Query Builder but not in the code?

LINQ Query Is Enumerated - Turn On Some Kind Of Flag That Alerts Me Each Time A LINQ Query Is Enumerated?

Sep 22, 2009

I know that LINQ queries are deferred and only executed when the query is enumerated, but I'm having trouble figuring out exactly when that happens.Certainly in a For Each loop, the query would be enumerated. What's the rule of thumb to follow? I don't want to accidentally enumerate over my query twice if it's a huge result.

For example, does System.Linq.Enumerable.First enumerate over the whole query? I ask for performance reasons. I want to pass a LINQ result set to an ASP.NET MVC view, and I also want to pass the First element separately. Enumerating over the results twice would be painful. It would be great to turn on some kind of flag that alerts me each time a LINQ query is enumerated. That way I could catch scenarios when I accidentally enumerate twice.
