Convert VB 2008 Project To 2010?
Jun 5, 2011I'm trying to convert an old vb project from 2008 to 2010. Ive tried using vb 2010's convert wizard aswell as changing the .sln file manually. When i try to convert the project automatically using the wizard it gives me an error saying that the project type is not supported. Does anybody know a solution to converting my 2008 project to 2010?

May 28, 2010Has anyone else had issues with Visual Basic 2010?My visual basic program has been running fine for months but recently every time I try and load a project (any project) the program freezes, then I have to close it down and reload, every time I load Visual basic for the second time I get the following error:

An error was encountered while opening associated documents the last time this solution was loaded. Document load is being skipped during this solution load in order to avoid that error.Plus when trying to run a project in debug it takes ages to load (around 5 minutes) this has only started happening recently, projects were loading in seconds.

Dec 3, 2011I am new to VB and Visual Studio. Using VB 2010 express edition. I am making a VB project and from from inside that i want to be able to run a batch file that i already have.
My problem is i am not able to import this in my project. I tried adding it in the project from solution explorer but when i run the program its not able to find it. I am able to execute it when i copy that batch file somewhere on disk and then giving absolute path but not by including it inside my project.

Jun 6, 2012The situation: when i build my project (or publish) Visual Basic 2010 makes and exe and a couple ddl files. when i run the project with the .exe and the other files the program works perfectly.
My problem: I want to share it with friends and it is just a verry little program ( a n internet radio) so i want it to be 1 .exe with out any other instalation needed so i can easly share it to anyone who wants it. when i make an even smaller program and Debud->build it, it is only 1 exe and no instalation needed. so is there a way to make my program to 1 exe only?
VB 2010 Forms App Project Using ADO.Net Has Started Crashing VS 2010 Whenever Load It?
Aug 11, 2011well until a few day ago. I don't know what I have introduced to cause the problem but now, whenever I load the project, VS 2010 (SP1) crahes. If I delete the project's suo file, the project loads (really quickly) and all is well until I exitVS 2010. When I re-run it and try to load the project, it crashes again unless I delete the suo file.The program can be built for x64 and x86. Now, when I reload the project (after deleting the suo file), it comes up in Debug - Any CPU mode. I can change from Debug to Release and from Any CPU to x86 but if I try and change from x86 to x64, VS 2010 crashes.This is not always the case though. If I build the x86 version and then switch to x64, all is well and I can build the x64 version. Obviously, there's something wonky going on.

Aug 4, 2011VB.Net 2010 program .exe on PC with Excel 2007 gives error when cannot find Excel version 14, which is Excel 2010 I have developed a program in VB.Net 2010 which reads from an Excel spreadsheet. It works fine in the IDE on my computer. I built an .msi and executed it on my computer. I get "Error: 53 - Could not load file or assembly 'Microsoft.Office.Interop.Excel, Version=14.0.0.0, Culture=neutral,PublicKeyToken=71e9bce111e9429c' or one of its dependencies. The system cannot find the file specified."
The only version of Excel on my computer is 2007, which is version 12.0.6557.5000. The version the error says it needs, version 14, is actually the version of Excel 2010.I have put in MsgBox statements to find where the error occurs.

VS 2010 VB 2010 - Program For Multiple Choice Test?
Apr 2, 2011I'm really new at programming and was looking for guidance about a project I have.I have to design a program that administers a multiple choice test to users. It delivers questions one at a time, from a predefined test file for the user to answer. It also marks and displays a score at the end of the test.
First, a QUESTION form verify's the user's registration status and access. The user provides a registration number and password and the program reads it from a "registration.txt" file to determine if the user is eligible to take the test (i.e., they are registered to take it). If it is correct, then the user presses the "Begin" button. If not, then a message appears and the student tries again to enter the information.
A read only text box will display the score at the end of the test (String with format correct/total) and the user can't retake the test.Second, a QUESTION form opens after clicking "Begin" on the entry form. The questions are going to be from a "testfile.txt" file.Each question is on multiple lines in the file. The first line consists of the question followed by possible answers followed by the correct answer ( 3 items are separated by "#"). The current question number and the question will be displayed in textboxes.'n'= possible answers; so each of the next 'n' lines provides a possible answer. All possible answers will be displayed in a Listbox.After the user selects an answer, an ''Enter'' button is pressed. This will submit and evaluate the answer. If nothing is selected a textbox should appear and display the error message (APPEARS ONLY IF THERE IS AN ERROR). After pressing ''Enter'', the next question is displayed.When all questions answered, the entry form is displayed again and displays the score.
I know that's a lot of information, but I wanted it to be really clear. Would it be best to cycle/loop the questions with a DoWhile loop? And how would I store the answers while the user goes through the test?
VS 2010 1 Project - Multiple Project Types ?
Sep 30, 2011A colleague has written a useful tool. He wrote it as a standalone tool, but it works even better as an includable dll, though it needs a bit of other functionality for it to be a really good drop-in component. What I am wondering is whether a project can be compiled as both an exe and as a dll?
There are alternatives, such as having a dll version and an exe version, since the dll version needs to include a few different methods that the exe version doesn't need, but this alternative sucks, since it would mean changing two sets of code.
Another alternative is to build the dll, then change the exe to be a project that references the dll....and does nothing other than calling one method in the dll. That kind of sucks, too, but not as bad.
I want to be able to use his module in some of my programs, and it really should be built as a component rather than a standalone app, but I want to know whether there are other options that I haven't considered.

Nov 22, 2010I have a VB.NET project in Visual Studio 2010 for an Excel Add-In.I use the "My" namespace,and in general it seems that the "My Project" folder contains configuration information about the project.My problem is that I need to change the name of this folder, because my version manager system won't accept spaces in file or folder names.Edit: There is a hacky way to do it, by renaming the folder and changing all references in the .vbproj file.However, the may work for a command line generation, but it won't work the next time the project will be opened in Visual Studio. The IDE will create a new "My Project" folder, and complain that it can't find the settings in it.

Nov 11, 2010I had web application (website?) that was started in VS 08 (this was the VS 08 that comes with SQL Server 2008 - not the full-blown version) and I loaded it in to VS 2010 (this is a recent Professional version upgrade from VS 05 Pro). The web app is a HealthVault application created by the HealthVault Application Manager that ships with the HealthVault SDK.
So, I loaded it in to VS 10 and VS 10 converted it to a VS 10 project and now it won't build. The problem is in the web config file and I normally don't work on web applications so I am completely lost.[code]...

Issue is that this tool extracts this information in DWORD 11214032. So I need to use calculator to convert it to WORD. VS 2010 : Can't Make Changes To Project
Oct 21, 2010when I open my project in VS 2010 (File - Open Project - *.vbproj) my project loads just fine. I can run it just fine. But, when I change something -anything at all- and run the project, nothing is changed. I can even save, close and reopen the project with the new changes, but it still runs the old version.
For example: I open the project, with Form1 that has 3 buttons. I run the program and I get Form1 with 3 buttons. I stop running, add button 4 and hit play... I get Form1 with 3 buttons.I save the project, close it and open it again. My Form1 design shows 4 buttons. But when I start it, there are only 3 buttons...It must be something inside the project, cause this happens on 3 different PC's where I have VS 2010 installed.
