Is there any way for a program to look at the text in, for example rtbInput and examine each letter individually as it goes? I mean, if the text in rtbInput is: How do I get the program to look at the text as 5 different strings: "H", "e", "l", "l" and "o"?
I've got my self in to a pickle here.I'm trying to do something I used to do in basic? At-least I think you can do this in Basic, you know Qbasic,What I'm trying to do is put 4-8 strings on to one line separated by a comma.Example might be:
writer.writeline (bob1, bob2, bob3, bob4) Out put might look like Test, Test2, Test3, Test4
I'm tried looking in to formatting of writeline/write, but I didn't get any where with it.
Also if this is possible- I would like to be able to read it just like :
reader.readline (Rbob1, Rbob2, Rbob3, Rbob4) If anyone cold just point me in the right direction, I'm sure I can figure it out - If not... Well I will ask another question.
I am a vb newbie having some trouble with an assignment. A user enters a letter into a text box, and the output must make the letter uppercase and tell what position the letter is at in the sentence "The quick brown fox jumps over a lazy dog."
Here is my
Private Sub btnSubmit_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles btnSubmit.Click
[CODE]...............
This is what comes out: "A first occurs in position -1". Everything comes out except the position is always displayed as -1.
Is it possible to change to colour of letters as they are typed.I.e

I'm a VB beginner.I wonder if it's possible to change the text style letter by letter?I've learned here that you can change the entire style of text like

I wonder, whats the proper, accepted way to convert doubles to strings? I've heard cstr(blah) is wrong (despite it working perfectly OK for me....), what is the proper way to do this say if I want to display the value of a double in a textbox (along with 'the answer is' or somesuch)?
I have to turn strings into Unicode. I thought the best way to do this would be as followed
HTML
For...Next to get the string For...Next to take each character out of the string For...Next to display each character in Unicode
The only problem I have is with the separation on each character in the string. I know I have to use a For...Next loop to check each spot in the string. But how would I move on past the first character?
I have this block of code that sets up my sql parameters for a stored proc that does an insert.
Dim sproc As StoredProcedure = New StoredProcedure("UsersInsert2", DataAccessConfiguration) sproc.AddInput("@ID", SqlDbType.NVarChar, 10, entity.UserId) sproc.AddInput("@PCode", SqlDbType.SmallInt, entity.PriviledgeCode) sproc.AddInput("@Pwd", SqlDbType.NVarChar, 10, entity.Password.ToString())
[code]...
I've tested the stored proc in SSMS and it works. The problem is when I try to call it from the application. it fails. the @@rowcount = -1. I've tried returning an error code from the db... no dice. keeps coming back as -1 what is going to get executed looks like this
I have a Generic List of Bytes with Hexadecimal values stored in it. for example, elements 0 to 3 contain 42 9E D1 EC which as a single, is equal to 79.41. I've tried using:
dim foo as string = "" for i as integer = 0 to 3 foo = foo + system.convert.tosingle(byteArray(i)).ToString
Can you look at this code? It's a class module that I made so I can make our application more modular.

I am trying to convert a string to a single. Ive tried csng() directcast() and single.parse. The first two methods crash. Single.parse says input string was in incorrect format. The number is 777.7932 so should convert fine. Ive tried it this way:
how can i convert a string representation of a single data type that is read from a text file into its single data type. I checked control panel and globalization settings are set to english.
When sending numbers over my server/client, I need to first convert them into strings and pack them together into larger strings, then deconvert them at the opposite end. I need to ensure that they occupy exactly the correct number of spaces in the string - for example I need an integer to use up 4 spaces. So for example, if I had a byte, then 2 integers, I need the first character to contain the byte, characters 2,3,4,5 to contain the first integer and 6,7,8,9 to contain the second integer. Then I can retrieve each number from the string using Mid(Position,Length) and convert it back to a number.I know how to convert bytes using chr and asc, but how would I convert my integers into my string and ensure they occupy the correct number of spaces in the string (and back). All the conversion methods I've looked don't seem to fit the bill. Will I need to write my own function to achieve this?
I want to make a translator like this: [URL]...I have already made two textboxes and a button. If I type in textbox 1 abc then textbox 2 must say nop. I already know the If textbox1.text = "abc" then textbox2.text = nop. I don't want that i want to translate the a to a n and the b to a o and the c to p. So i want to translate every single letter and make it 1 word. Its like a secret code. My language looks like that a=nb=oc=pd=qe=rf=sg=th=ui=vj=wk=xl=ym=z n=ao=bp=cq=dr=es=ft=gu=hv=iw=jx=ky=l z=m
I'm trying to find a way to have text that would be "Live" as in if a user types an incorrect phrase/letter in a text box, a message will appear prior to a "save" button being pressed. It's pretty much the same as when you're registering on these forums, it checks the availabilty of the username as you type it.
Here's the weird problem I am trying to solve but cannot get my mind around it. In a text box 1, the user enters 2 or more strings separated by comma. then in text box 2, the user enter 1 or more strings separated by comma. The output then puts the strings from text box 2 between the strings in text box 1
Example:
TextBox1 = visual basic, java, perl TextBox2 = is better, compared to

In this exmample textData is a string of text and alpha is a single letter a through z or A through Z. I don't need the criteria to be case sensitive, but I do need only the first letter of textData to match alpha. I have tested the LIKE comparator and it does not return all records that begin with alpha.
I'm converting a user generated list box to an array and then generating a user defined number of random strings and placing it in a textbox. The code I have works fine as it will generate the number of random strings the user wants, except sometimes a line is blank at the top of the list but is counted as a string.
I already have a code for detecting a removable device. However, I would like to enable my program to detect that USB drive and read and print the text in that specific text file on my webpage. I also have a program code for reading and printing a text file from a USB but that program needs the drive letter to be specified. My problem is, how would I program if the drive letter is unspecified?[code]
