Using Modulous And Division In An Exercise

Mar 6, 2005

This exercise says :"Write a program that inputs one number consisting of five digits from the user, separates the number into its individual digits and prints the digits separated from one another by three spaces each. For example, if the user types the number 42339, the program should print
4 2 3 3 9 Use the command window for input and output. [Hint: This exercise is possible with the techniques discussed in this chapter. You will need to use both division and modulous operations go "pick off" each digit.]"

Here is what I have learned in Chapter 3:

If/Then Statements
Console.Write()
Console.WriteLine()

[Code]....

This exercise I have yet to start, and don't think I will be able to do much, because I have no clue how to "Pick off" the numbers using division and modulous operators. I know what the mod operator does, but I do not know how to use it and division to do what this exercise is asking me to do.

My other question is how can I change the type of output project? So from a console app to a Windows Form app? ( I am no longer talking about using the assembly dynamicly this is more about creating the physical exe as what I want it as.

I know that they are the Compiler options command line but is it the same as the ones that Visual studio use when compiling? (The ones you see in the out put window)

Sql - Correct Error-handling Practices For The Data-layer?

What are good things to check for, with respect to error-handling, when you are dealing with the data-access-layer? For example, let's assume I have this function..

Public Function UserExists(ByVal userName As String) As DataTable
Dim dt As Object = Nothing
Dim arSqlParameters(0) As SqlParameter

How would you go about ensuring that your code elegantly handles anything unexpected in a situation like this?

VS 2005 Error: Input String Was Not In The Correct Format

Apr 8, 2009

I have a user that is receiving the following error: "Input string was not in the correct format"So I looked into the code and I can see why he is getting the error. The code is trying to execute this line:

_MyObject.LineBreaks = "0"

And the property looks like this:

Public Property LineBreaks() As Integer
Get
Return _MyLineBreaks

[code]....

Now, I immediately see that this old code is trying to set a string into an Integer and the old programmer was not using Option Strict, so he didn't notice this, BUT the problem has only happened one 1 user's PC. Running from the IDE works fine as well as installing the application other PCs. The code is executed every time the application runs, but yet only one person has reported the issue.Why would one PC baulk at this, but not the VS IDE or any other PC so far? Is there some system setting that determines how type conversion is handled? I need to get this user up and running.

Get An Error The Output Totals To Zero?

My problem is I can get the code to do a simple addition, but If I try to do any calculation at all calling the discount I get an error where the output totals to zero. I don't know if I am missing something associated with the sub getDiscount() or if there is a problem elsewhere.Ultimately this is what I want my calculation to end up as.

Input Output Error Stream?

Oct 30, 2011

Applications in the .NET Framework can use the System.Console class to read characters from
and write characters to the console. Data from the console is read from the standard input stream,data to the console is written to the standard output stream, and error data to the console iswritten to the standard error output stream. These streams are automatically associated withthe console when the application starts and are presented as the In, Out, and Error properties, respectively.I am working with redirects and I am solving small problems one at a time. So far so good, but I lost track of the big picture here. Can someone please clarify something for me.
