Basically i am creating a vbnet system software. I want to create a shortcut key to lock the system with out affecting the windows explorer (just my system only). Is it possible to create one for that? Or let's say create a procedure that triggers anywhere whether the focus is on a control, on a form (whether shown as normal or modal), or on any other that has the focus on it.

I have implemented a global Hotkey into my code but the problem is that when I move the focus from the form to IE (For Example) i cannot use the Hotkey from my application. Everything is working great if I was to stay int the form but that's not the purpose of this code.

I simply want to create an application that can save each n every keystroke pressed from the keyboard and then user will be able to assign it a hotkey. And then whenever user presses that hotkey the data that is relevent/linked with that hotkey should be pasted into the active window e.g. notepad, ms word, email etc. I have developed it on my own everything is working fine but whenever I hit the assigned hotkey it wont stop sending data to the active window maybe because of timer.

View 7 RepliesEver since upgrading to Visual Studio 2010, I'm running into an issue where the first web request of any type (WebRequest, WebClient, etc.) hangs for about 20 seconds before completing. Subsequent calls work quickly. I've narrowed down the problem to a proxy issue.If I manually disable proxy settings, I don't experience this delay:

What's strange is that there are no proxy settings enabled on this machine in Internet Options. What I'm wondering is if there is a way to disable proxy settings for my entire project in one shot without explicitly disabling as above for every web object.
The main reason I want to be able to do this is that I'm trying to use an API [URL] which uses web requests, but does not provide any way to manually disable proxy settings.I have found some information suggesting that I need to add some proxy information to the app.config file, but I get errors building my program if I make an edits to that file.
I want to make it so that no matter which control has focus, it will do my event. So that I dont have to write a keydown event for all 137 of my objects. Is this possible?

I'm using Inno setup, and I'm declaring the dll file to be shared.
in the client app i've added refrence to the dll and set "Copy Local" to false.
Now if i put the exe file (the client app) in the same folder with the dll everything works correctly, but once I move the exe or use another application that should use the so called shared dll the assembly cannot be loaded because the system cannot find him ("IOFileNotFoundException")
I have 2 forms. I want to close Form1 without closing the entire application but it doesnt work. It closes the whole application even though i say Form2.show()[code]When it reaches the End Sub then it closes the application.
View 6 RepliesI'm doing some LINQ which requires a custom comparer, so I created a new class implementing IEqualityComparer. However, when I use it, I have to create an instance of it each time.

I may be misunderstanding how .NET works, but it seems wasteful to create a new comparer each time. I really just want one instance (the equivalent of static in C++/C#).So I tried creating a "static" class, which in vb.net is a module. But got an 'Implements' not valid in Modules error.I then tried making the Equals and GetHashCode function shared methods on my class, but got this error: Methods that implement interface members cannot be declared 'Shared'.how to accomplish my goal here?
I need to know how to have a button on a tab to create another button on a second tab that contains a panel, with appropriate spacing, the same size as other buttons already present, and the name of the tab that generated this new button as the text on the newly created button. I.e. button1 on tab1 will create and place a new button on a panel in tab2 that already has a grid of buttons (maybe 3x10 buttons) which will be placed underneath a particular column with the text tab2 on the new button which can also refer back to that tab automatically. Hopefully we can get all this code under a single button event.
I also don't know how to have a button on tab1 that focuses on tab2, which sets the back button on tab2 with a reference to go back to tab1 in order to remain dynamic. I.e. clicking on tab1's button will go to tab2 and set the back button there with a link back to the tab it was referred from.
I'd also like to know if there's an easy way to create and destroy tabs with a specific layout. I.e. We have home tab, and comment tab. (This is for the sake of argument) On the comment tab1 (which contains all posted comments), we have a new comment button which creates a comment tab2 (or a dialog box for that matter) with appropriate textboxes, labels, and buttons in the right places which could also make use of the issues I posted above. So the new comment button on the comment tab1 will create either a new comment tab2 with appropriate objects, or a dialog box with the same, and then the submit button on this comment tab2 or box will create a new textfield/buttons on the panel containing the grid of buttons with the information provided in the fields from comment tab2/dialog box which is then destroyed.
I hope i haven't made the examples too confusing, but I can't figure out how to even make progress in these directions. Trying either fails completely, or semi-fails in getting these examples to function 100%.

NetShareAdd API from a VB.NET application (.NET version 2.0) and although I can get the API to just create a basic shared folder I now want to create a shared folder and specify its Share permissions (not NTFS permissions) as well, which means I have to pass in a SHARE_INFO_502 structure rather than just a SHARE_INFO_2 like I was previously doing for creating a basic share. I have spent over 5 hours solid just trying to get this working and am getting to the point now where I really cant think of anything else to try.I've encountered several problems whilst trying to make this work but the one I am finally stuck on is this: When I call NetShareAdd it returns the error INVALID_PARAMETER and the parm_ err object (which is supposed to specify which member of the SHARE_INFO_502 structure caused the error) holds the value 501. I know it is something to do with the security descriptor because if I comment out the line where I set the SHARE_INFO_502 structure's shi502_ security_descriptor field then the code works without an error (just obviously does not set the share permissons I want).I think posting all of the code here might be a bad idea as its currently over 150 lines long (yes that is only code for getting this API working...) so I'll just post my definitions of the SECURITY_DESCRIPTOR structure and the code I am actually using to call the various APIs involved: [code] Each of those API calls prior to NetShareAdd returns a non-error value in the Debug.WriteLine that is done after each one, but there is obviously an issue somewhere with the security descriptor.
