View 10 RepliesI am a Electrical student working on a project of Voice Enabled Home Automation. As this is a school project, my professor therefore disallow me to use any existing software/hardware readily available in the market for Home Automation.I therefore had to start everything from scrape. Regarding the Hardware side, i will use a RF600D/E chip to control the Home applicances (e.g. lighting switch, power point, curtain drawer)As for the software side, I therefore need the help of your expertist. I need to write a VB program using Microsoft Speech SDK 5.1 to control my RF chipset preferably using the computer Parallel port (no other circuit needed to interface to my RF chipset). When i voice out "Turn On Living Room Light", Parallel port pin 1 will turn on and off (Just a 50ms to 100ms of on time will do). The parallel port will be connected to my RF chipset input control which will in turns control my RF switch at remote end.
I am seeking for help to start the source code writing for my program as i had limited knowledge to software programming. Does anyone has source code that can capature particular Speech pre-save in a string. e.g. "Turn on the light", "Turn on the TV" and give a respond after a current Speech string was received? (For my case, will be trigger the parallel port)
ok here is my problem, im making a little app for school since our school blocks pretty much everything so here is my plan a student makes 2 gmail accounts one for school one at home.
in the program at school (client) they put a site request into a textbox and they hit send, the request is then sent to the home pc gmail account and another app on the other side downloads the full site that they have requested and then sends them an email back with an attachment of the complete website, it is then opened in a browser and they have the site, simple idea and it would be easy except.
my school blocks the smtp protocols in vb, even outlook cant use gmail accounts only the schools registered email, however, you can access gmail on the internet without any blockages and you can send and recieve on the gmail website.so how can i use a webbrowser control to log the user into there gmail account through a custom gui, and send a string like www.facebook.com to the home pc gmail account, and then use the web browser controll on the students laptop to recieve the response email through a web browser, is there some kind of gmail api i can use?
Is there a way to create a tile map that allows a user to click a tile on the map and have an event happen? Better yet, can this be done in a web application?
View 5 RepliesI have a program originally compiled in VS2008 on a WindowsXP Pro box. The program uses Microsoft DAO 3.5 Object Library to access an Access database.

View 3 RepliesI have a voice program that can compare voices to stored voice files and identify people based on that. It's not the most accurate thing, since being sick or other weird things can make it fail, but it does work for the most part. I was wondering if there was a way to keep the voice recognition running during an unlock and wait for the person who locked it to come back. Upon giving the command and voice verification, if it passes, the computer is unlocked by my program. Is there anyway to do this in VB.NET?Summary: Can a program unlock a computer after it's locked?

View 1 RepliesIn doing mathematics, I need to enter many values from equations into an array or arrays. I want to be able to vary these value any time I run the program.
I would like to know how to do this while the program is running?
back in the days of Quich Basic, it was simple, ie
Dim array(9)
For I = 1 to 9
INPUT array(I)
Next I
The program stopped at each pass to let you enter values.
How can you do this in Viual Basic 2010 for example
I am sure the screensaver wasn't meant to be used in this manner, but I have created an interactive screensaver for the company I work for which acts as a checkout station for calibrated measurement equipment.Part of this process is printing out a sticker using an SII SLP Label printer which is attached to the computer with the checkout station. Printing with the printer works just fine over the network from another computer (not running the program as a screensaver), but for some reason I am getting a -16 error (I believe that is "Unknown Error") when the program as a screensaver uses the local SLP printer. The only possible reason I can think for this happening is that screensavers aren't allowed to access printers. Is there some way to give the screensaver permission to use the printer? Currently the screensaver is able to access files on the network file share (such as the equipment database) just fine. If I were to create a TCP/IP server that acts as a proxy or go-between for the printer so that all the screensaver does is connect to localhost and tells the server to print would that work?
View 1 RepliesI want to make my translator interactive with the user. In microsoft Word the User can change the dictionary terms of the word or insert a word to make the (little red line) beneath a misspelt word go away. In my translator program. View 3 RepliesI am trying to sort my report on the values in a column. The underlying query consists of a director colum a movietitle column and a rating column, for every movie a director has directed there is a record which off course shows the rating in the ratingcolumn In my report I have grouped by Director and created two other columns which are called: Nr of Films and averageRating. in the design view i used two functions to accomplish this. the first is: count('the field of the rating') and sum('the field of the rating')/count('the field of the rating'). This is working... but now I would like to sort the column, Nr of Films. I think I have to do this with interactive sort of the textbox which holds the column name(i.e. Nr of Films)

View 14 RepliesI have an application I made and I created a Setup Project so I can install it on other systems and it almost works perfectly. It doesn't install over older versions even though I have that option set to True. So I decided to look into publishing to a website since it seems you can have the application look for new updates which is what I want since I'm still in testing and the source code is changing frequently. I found the Build -> Publish Application option but it won't upload to the site. Also, is this the right approach to accomplishing what I want?
View 4 RepliesI'm still using ye ancient 32-bit machine with ye olde XP.Currently I'm writing some code to add binary content to files, and I need to know, if the same code can be applied on 64-bit systems. For example an integer variable added to a binary file with:
BinaryStream.Write(SomeNumberDeclaredAsInteger)
can be safely loaded with
MyInteger = BinaryStream.ReadInt32
on my system, but is this also the case on 64-bit systems or should I truncate it to Int32 before writing it to file?
