how to go about this? I have a form, frm1 w/a combobox, cboLocations, which is being populated using a sql string. There is also a frm2 w/a series of textboxes and other comboboxes. What's happening right now is that I make a selection from cboLocations on frm1 and click on the OK button, frm2 loads, but none of the textboxes are populating and one of the comboboxes, cboDepot, shows the different data when you click on the down arrow, but it's not displaying anything it its text field when frm2 loads.

View 2 RepliesI am creating an Add-In that I want to create classes and forms based on a database structure. I can't find any information anywhere on how to programatically add code to classes. I know I can write out the files and add them to a project, but that would limit what I can do in the future. I would like the possibility to update a function in the future which would be impossible writing out a file and loading the whole thing back in. It would destroy any modifications made to the class, and since this Add-In will only be creating a framework, there will usually be modifications.
I got this line from the macro recorder:DTE.ActiveDocument.Selection.text = strDACode
But I like to keep Option Strict on, and this is late bound according to the IDE. There seems to be very little help on the IDE and how to use it creating Add-Ins. If I overlooked something please point me there, but I can find nothing. I am new to vb.net and I am using visual studio 2010. I have two comboboxes on a form, each combobox is set to DropDownList so that a list of items can show in the combobox, but no text is allowed to be entered.
For combobox A, if user chooses item 1, the list of combobox B should be updated accordingly. I think this is quite common on a lot of applications. But I do not know to implement it. I even do not know the keyword to search for the relevant property or event handler.

I am the author of the MAPM arbitrary precision math library. This is a library which allows the user to make any calculation to any desired precision level. The library is written in straight ANSI C.
On many occasions, I get an email on how to use the library from a VB.NET / Visual Basic application. I have very little basic experience, and I don't know what to tell them. I would really like to tell them how to proceed to call MAPM from a basic application.
Let's assume they can compile the library with a C compiler and create a DLL.
If I have a large number of classes, each similar to the other in certain aspects (they all share a common base class, but each does things differently), and I need to create Windows forms for each to allow easy changing of their values through a GUI? Create one matching form for each object in VS' forms designer, Or Use code to create the forms dynamically at runtime.
#2 makes the most sense to me, because a lot of these objects will share very common features of the form, notably "Ok" and "Cancel" buttons. But one object might need to draw a textbox on the form while another might need to draw a combobox. Not to mention, if I want to put icons on the "Ok" and "Cancel" buttons, I'd have to do this for each copy of the form in designer, and that sounds like it could get out of hand quickly.But is drawing forms through code sane? VS' forms designer is pretty sophisticated and designed to make life easier. Am I wise to consider ignoring its functionality and diving into the trench warfare of forms design through code? Or are there examples of automating form creation based on an existing object's properties?
I am creating a project in VB.NET in which one of the reports require that the name of employees should be displayed as column names and whatever work they have done for a stated period should appear in rows below that particular column.Now as it is clear, the columns will have to be added at runtime. Am using an ODBC Data source to populate the grid. Also since a loop will have to be done to find out the work done by employees individually, so the number of rows under one column might be less or more than the rows in the next column.Is there a way to create an empty data table and then update its contents based on columns and not add data based on addition of new rows.

So I made a simple patform game where the player has to jump quickly while the platforms move to the bottom of the screen, as to not touch the bottom of the screen. I am using an ACCESS DataBase to populate the array.
Using the For Next Loop I can access any position within the array such as a individual cell or group of cells. Also using the Step Keyword of the For next loop I can select a group of cells to manipulate based on the Step factor. This worked well for me in VB 6. I am now migrating to vb 2010 and cannot fine documentation as to how this would be done on zero based arrays in Vb 2010.
In VB 2010 I see no reference to the Step Keyword nor examples of how it would be used with zero based Arrays.

I have an asynchronous task that is executing a function. The function does not contains any looping statements, but instead it is executing series of sql commands on sql server. Now, i have a button on my window that can cancel these sql operations. In other words, cancel the whole asynchronous task.
I know that this technique will require CancellationTokenSource and CancellationToken to cancel the task, but i've seen many examples on the internet and all of them are showing that the function that task is executing contains loop statements in which they are checking for IsCancellationRequested boolean property. But in my case, it is not so. My function does not have any loop statements in which i can do a check on this boolean property.
How do i populate my state combobox,such that when i select the appropriate country my combobox will automatically display the appropriate state?

View 2 RepliesI already know how to call insert, update, delete & select procedures in DataSet.xsd window. And I also know how to call queries by table adapters. But I just found out that its not possible to call all functions by queries (such as insert). It works when I test the query but when I try to add it, it says "Failed to get schema for this query". So I built a few stored procedures which do many functions (such as transaction, insert, update etc...). But I am unable to use these stored procedures in VB form. I found some tutorials mentioning that it can be done by defining connections and some other stuffs with which I don't want this to be. I want to call these procedures by writing code in VB code editor window with DataSets, TableAdapters, BindingSource etc...

I am using a bound combobox control in a vb.net application. How do I set the combo box to an item if I know the value of the ValueMember, but I don't know the DisplayMember. I can use the FindExactString method if I know the DisplayMember, but not if I only know the ValueMember.In explanation, the value member is an employee Number, the display member is the Name. I get the employee number from a detail item in another table and now I want to set the combobox to display the Name that goes with that detail item.
