View 1 RepliesI am trying to use socket to transfer byte to client. I define Byte(1024) because I am not sure how many character is the server sending! I don't know how many index of this array has been occupied!?
View 1 RepliesI've been up for nearly 24 hours now. Trying to program an application for a game I have been playing.I've run in to a problem, I'm not sure how to solve.I have basic knowledge when it comes to VB (college class) so bare with me.[code]My only Idea would be loops to figure out where each of the edited numbers are in the array, But I was looking for something simple.Also, would it be easier to work with the bytes rather than edit them in string form?
View 4 RepliesI have a StringArray that is filled with line of text and I need to take each array of strings and convert them to byte. How
Dim splitText() As String = TextRead.Split(Chr(13))
Dim byteArray() as string = Byte.Parse(splitText(0))
once I can get one element of the string array to convert to Byte I will put a loop around it for each position in the string array but it says the string format is not correct for the byte.parser.
I'm stuck at a little Problem. Well I got an Image in a Picturebox and need it to convert it in a Bytearray to store in an Imagecolumn in a Database. I do know how to convert a FILE to a bytearray, but I'm stuck at this. would be appriciatet. This is what I got so far, but like I said, it didn't work properly.

When declaring a byte array, what is the difference between the following? Is there one, or are these just two different ways of going about the same thing?

I got a form and a checkbox with default names. In the form1 load event, I need to check the binary data of a registry key.
If data is 00 00 00 00 the checkbox will display a check mark
If data is 1b 00 00 00 the checkbox will shows nothing
Here is my code
Private Sub Form1_Load(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Me.Load
Dim b() As Byte = {0, 0, 0, 0}
Dim a() As Byte = My.Computer.Registry.GetValue("HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftware", "Test",String.Empty)
If a Is b Then
CheckBox1.Checked = True

I want to be able to create a VB application that is on a flash drive and will run as soon as I insert the flash drive into a computer.
View 7 RepliesIm trying to create an app to copy pics from my camera to my hard drive. Problem is when I connect the camera it shows in My computer but not as a logical drive. Is there any way I could access my pics using vb.net without the need for the camera SDK which is not available for my camera model.

View 4 RepliesI was able to get some code working to create a dummy file to fill the remaining space of a flash drive. However, I have added a progress bar and can't figure out why it's not working. I declare a variable for the current value, min, & max properities of the progressbar and then increment it by 1 during each step of my FOR loop. However, I never see anything on the progress bar.
Dim CurVal As Integer
Dim RandomNumber As Byte
'Create the dummyfile to take up the remaining space on the drive

I am transmitting data over an IP socket and receiving the data via a second program I have written. The server was in VB6 and am now creating a new one in vb.net to run as a service. The major issue I am having is related to the encoding features.
Issue 1 to be able to correctly encode a bytearray so that when it is received by a VB6 program via winsock that the data will be in the proper ANSI format for the pc to read it correctly. So far this works on some files and not on others depending on the content of the file.
Issue 2 to be able to correctly encode a bytearray, send it to a vb.net host program and correctly [decode?] write it to disk.
To make things a little more complicated I must also be able to do this where the client resides on a Windows Mobile, Windows CE, or Windows PC. I have been running some tests and have gotten mixed results.
In my project I am using a camera to capture images. The images will be stored in a byte array. Now I want to display my images in byte array to picture box on my form. I am pasting the code bit below.
HTML
Declare Sub CopyMemory Lib "kernel32" Alias "RtlMoveMemory"
(ByRef Destination As Byte, ByRef Source As Byte, ByVal Length As Integer)
Delegate Sub MyFrameHookerDelegate(ByVal FrameType As Integer,
ByVal row As Integer, ByVal Column As Integer,
ByRef lpImageAttribute As TIMAGEATTACHDATA, ByRef Buffer As Byte)
Public ImageBuf() As Byte

I want to display the image from ImageBuf() to a picture box on my form.
I'm running the following WMI script to get the associations between drive letters and physical drives on the system, but for some reason it omits CDROMs/DVD-ROMs. Can someone tell me how to get those as well?
Code:
ComputerName = "."
Set wmiServices = GetObject _
("winmgmts:{impersonationLevel=Impersonate}!//" & ComputerName)
Set wmiDiskDrives = wmiServices.ExecQuery _
("SELECT DeviceID FROM Win32_DiskDrive")

I want to send a image to server side using HTTPService,I am using ASP.NET for server side coding. I don't know how to write server side code to receive the image sent as a byteArray, and I am also not sure if my client side code is correct or not。is there any IT PRO..[code]I could not get the image in my disk,I think the flex side should have not problem, but the VB code side should be something wrong.
View 9 RepliesI have a program that allows the user to enter a drive letter into a text box. The program then takes the letter and find the physical drive number (i.e. deviceharddisk3..). It then stripes out everything and leaves me with the number 3.
In VB6 I used mDrive.bas from vbAccelerator.com and it worked perfectly. I have been all over the internet and back and cannot find a solution written in VB.NET.
I want to make a tool that will assign a USB pen drive a drive letter, I am using WMI to acknowledge the device being plugged in, I can pull the deviceID, name, etc now I just need to work out how to assign the device to a drive and I just cant figure it out
View 4 RepliesThe drive is connected via USB and the problem I'm having is that, periodically, while my code is executing, the usb drive seems to disconnect and reconnect. (Nothing to do with the program, but the drive itself).I want to find a way to prevent these temporary drive reconnects from interrupting my code. IE, i want to insure that whatever read or write that is requested is actually executed even in the case of a temporary drive interruption.
View 1 RepliesDoes anyone know if there is a way to determine if a drive is local or a network drive?
View 1 RepliesI am trying to get the physical drive (device) number from the drive letter. If the user inputs the drive letter C the program will find the associated physical device number. For example if I input C then the result needs to be \Device\HardDrive1\... Some call it NT Device Name; I think. I have the code for VB6 from vbAccelerator, which works perfectly, but it does not work in VB.NET. My question is there a simple way of pulling the drive info that contains the drive letter and the physical device number. I have searched the internet and found nothing for VB.NET. I would post code but I have nothing for .NET.

View 14 RepliesI have a program I am converting from VB6 to VB.NET and I am stuck at the very last piece of code. I need to determine what physical device number is associated with the drive letter.
The program takes the drive letter from a text box and goes and finds the device number (i.e. deviceharddrive3...) and strips out everything leaving me with the devicer number; in this case the number 3. I have searched the internet to and fro and found nothing in VB.NET.
My program in VB6 uses a .bas module from vbaccelerator.com called mDrive.bas and works great. I can't figure out how to convert it over to VB.NET.
I am trying to create a function to convert a mapped drive path to a UNC path. I did some googling and found several different pages on the matter. I am most interested in the first one, but I cannot seem to get the code to cooperate. Since the original post was in C#, here is my VB.NET conversion:

First off a short background of the project I am working on- I am developing a program that will be run off removable media (i.e. USB Flash drive). This will be a virtual desktop which you will be able to take with you and have the same desktop on any system. As we know drive letters can change with each host system the drive is plugged into, I need to be able to determine the path for the flash drive and access a specific folder ( i.e. My Documents)
I have an picture box(representing the icon) placed on my form (form1) and when I click the icon I want to be able to open and view the a specific folder from the portable drive. I need a click event that will determine a dynamic drive letter for a directory on the removable drive and then open that directory in an explorer window.

Is it possible to check if a Logical device gathered through a WMI search request is a CD/DVD Drive? Right now, I can get the path of every Win32_LogicalDisk through WMI, but E: (for me) is my DVD drive and unless there is a disc, my program fails because it tries to count the number of folders/files on the disc.
Ultimately, I'd like to be able to tell if it is a CD/DVD drive then check to see if there is a disc there before I do anything else to it. Can it be done using WMI?
