We recently aquired a first generation ipad and after playing around with it, it occurred to me that many elements of my current vb project could find an audience in this technology. The suggested method of developing these apps is with a special software kit and an apple computer. Since this would require an unacceptable investment with my current finances, I am wondering if it is possible to create these apps using visual studio with vb.net, c#, etc.
I have learned to create programs in VB.NET with Visual Studio, but the downside of that is that i need the .NET framework, which is not on every computer. Can I create a program in VB.NET without it needing the .NET framework? If yes, what tools do i need?
is it possible to create VB .Net apps without a mainwindow?I want to call my VB app from another app. It will just take a few files, and input them in a database. So, I need no window.
I'm not looking for a solution, rather I just want to know if this is possible or not with VB.NET (which I'm still just a beginner on).What I'm looking to develop is a WinForm application that allows users within the company network to share files and other information.
Im still working on my scheduling program and Im thinking of how to get it where it dont add my agent until they actually leave for lunch and not just t the time they are "supposed" to. I want to programmatically (c# or vb.net) copy files to an apps document folder on the iPad. The app has file sharing turned on.I have looked through the iTunes SDK, but haven't found anything that would seem to allow you to access an app.There is an application called DiskAid that does this so I know it's possible.
I have a date in string format the date is generated by VB.Net application and persisted into XML file which than I am parsing it onto iPad. The parsed content has date in string like,"Monday, 07 November 2011 16:03" How can I convert this format to NSDate object? I couldn't found any method in documentation.I thought of separating string component and than evaluate each component and convert them into numbers such as,
Monday = 0
Later I can create a date like this, i.e. by setting component.
Basically, what I've done is given the user four tabs to choose from. The main one is the dictionary which I've compiled, and the other three tabs link to online encyclopedias and dictionaries. However, what I want to do is make an app for each of these, because of the fact that the screen space I am giving the user is limited (499px x 254px), and I also believe that it will look more professional.
What I'm thinking of doing is putting the logo towards the top, and then:For Wikipedia, putting the title and picture at the top and breaking the article into show/hide sections like the mobile version For Wiktionary, putting the title at the top, and breaking it down into show/hide sections when applicable For Dictionary.com. putting the title at the top and showing the definitions (with linked pronunciations) underneath
Of course, I'll need it to automatically redirect itself to the webpage I need it to go to, because I don't want to type another 300,000 lines of code just to go to a website.

I am very very new to VB.NET and would like to ask a simple question. I want to create a vb.net program and allow visitors to a website to download this program. However, I prefer not to have visitors download a zip folder. I would like to have a program that just gives a prompt to save in a selected folder, once the saved file is selected it prompts the person to download, and then when finished prompts the person to run the program. The reason is twofold:
1. I don't like the extra step involved with unzipping the file. and 2. I don't like the visitors having to look for the "main" file program within the new downloaded folder. So is there any way to have just one file for others to download without having it in a zip folder?
I'm trying to create a program that installs required .dll's for a program due to a clean install..What I need to do is Get a value in the registry and use it for the program files path.. but I've noticed some pc's don't have the same configuration because of the version the user is using. Anyway This is what I have so far:[code].....
What I'm trying to do is find a registry key called "SoftInstallPath", if found I need the end of the path to goto the new directory(new_dll) not the old one (dll).. and if "SoftInstallPath" cannot be found.. I need it to find "ProgInstallPath" and use it instead and do the same thing.By the way I'm using Visual Studio Professional 2008 on a Vista x86 machine.Also error I keep getting is: Warning 10 Function 'FixPath' doesn't return a value on all code paths. A null reference exception could occur at run time when the result is used.

Basically, i am trying to determin if an application made for 1.x will run on a computer with just one copy of the .NET framework installed which is a higher version than what i am targetting, ie: it only has one copy of .NET 2.0, or 3.0, or 3.5 or 4.0 - has one copy of either of these and thats it, the hypothetical computer would not have 1.0 or 1.1 installed.
Usually when you right click on an application, and then click on properties, you can find the applications exe name. Such as, explorer.exe, mspaint.exe, and much much more. But I can't find the exe name of any of my apps.
