I have learned to create programs in VB.NET with Visual Studio, but the downside of that is that i need the .NET framework, which is not on every computer. Can I create a program in VB.NET without it needing the .NET framework? If yes, what tools do i need?
View 1 RepliesBasically, i am trying to determin if an application made for 1.x will run on a computer with just one copy of the .NET framework installed which is a higher version than what i am targetting, ie: it only has one copy of .NET 2.0, or 3.0, or 3.5 or 4.0 - has one copy of either of these and thats it, the hypothetical computer would not have 1.0 or 1.1 installed.

As you all know programs created in VB require the .NET framework to be installed on the end-user's computer, BUT when I create my ClickOnce deployment you would think that it would automatically include a .NET 4.0 setup for the end-user... it does not. I have tried creating all sorts of installers which install the Microsoft .NET folder onto the end-user's machine, or the actual .NET executable file. None of these seem to work, even in third party installation creators like InnoSetup. When I go through Microsoft Documentation like this: "How to: Install Prerequisites with a ClickOnce Application" all I get is something I've already tried and does not work.
I need everything in one large setup.exe file. I don't care if it is going to take up so space, as long as it is in one file and everything is embedded together.
How do I package the .NET 4.0 framework AND make it install WITH my VB.NET application IN ONE Setup.exe file? If this isn't possible, where can I find the Actual Files of the .NET 4 Framework?

The main one is the dictionary which I've compiled, and the other three tabs link to online encyclopedias and dictionaries. View 1 RepliesI need to create a pdf file dynamically in vb.net. It needs to contain several images and lines of text. I am using VS 2003, so whatever solution I use will need to be compatible with the .net 1.1 framework. The current method I am using is wpcubed, but this requires that all images be converted to bmp format before adding them to the pdf, which can be extremely slow when dealing with a large number of images.
I am aware that there are an awful lot of other 3rd party products that claim to do this, and I have had a search through them. But without registering, downloading, installing and writing code to use each of them in turn, it is very difficult to differentiate between them. So far I have looked into evo pdf and pdfsharp,tallcomponents, [URL] but none seem to work with .net 1.1. (Although they don't make this abundantly clear.)

In entity framework we can use 3 approaches model first , code first , database first but each one of them needs manual hand touch(means creating database or create model or write the POCO class codes or entity class codes) before proceeding to the next step ( using EF in context ).What if I want to create database and tables and table relationships programatically and still want to have to features of EntityFramework 4.3.

So if we want to have that what should we do? To give the ability to create dynamic table fields those steps will not be sufficient. In all 3 steps database , table and table columns are fixed. My Application as you may remember ONLY runs from the CD and is never installed onto a computer. It is a Product Support CD. All Information that a customer may need is on this CD, they can Download PDF's and Drawings and even save some Software Apps that may be needed onto the user's Hard Drive, but the CD App running is never installed onto a computer.

I am work on VB.net 2003 Framework 1.1 for last 3.5 years in windows Application.We are currently migrating to VB.net 2008 framework 3.5, but i don't know about the features which related to ADO.net and which is important to performance. I need to create a "post office" program that will send html emails thru the system.net.mail framework.
For each job submitted to the postoffice the app would need to read a user created html email string from the database, read a string of email addresses to send to and send out the emails based on a set processing time.
The first step would be to parse out the email addresses to find out how many emails it needs to send out and determine how many it would need to send per minute to complete the job in 20 minutes tops. I.e. if 1000 email addresses are submitted per job it would determine that it needs to send 50 emails per minute to complete the job.
The part I am stuck on is how I should queue the emails. If the app determines it needs to send 50 a minute should I only load up the first 50 on a timer event then get the next 50 queued up for the next timer tick? Or would it be better to load up all 1000 in a loop and build in some kind of wait time after it sends the first 50?
I have a solution that I wish to upgrade from Vb.net framework 1.1 to framework 4.0. The solution consists of a number of projects, all but one of which compile to dll's. The master project compiles to a executable which provides a menuing system which dynamically loads the dll's and connects to entry points.
The projects contain normal classes, numbers of forms and also controls, which are either usercontrols or are inherited extensions of standard windows controls.There are a number of third party components (eg reporting and grid controls from Component One, Ribbon control from DevExpress etc).

How come software created in an older framework version won't run on a newer framework version? Actually whenever i try to run some old specific software having .net 3.5 framework on my PC they show they needs .net framwork 1.1 . When the report is called the server converts it into PDF but when report contains large data it takes a lot of time to load. I want to do in asp.net that when I call the report url it opens the PDF file and copies it into the root of my web folder.
