I am working on a project that requires me make a MDI, which I did. The problem that I am having is that none of the menus like the cut and paste work in the MDI Child. I have tried different types of code and still can't get it to work. All I am trying to do is copy or paste text using MDI parent menu controls, rather then creating menu controls for all the MDI children

I am using Visual Studios 2005 and I am creating an application for our IT Security.Part of the program is for documents and procedures. What I am trying to do is automatically create a menu based on the folders and files. So far I have it taking into account the base folder and one subfolder level and files within it, but I want it to automatically also take into account any subfolders and files that may be added at a later date without having to replicate the code below for each new level. You can change the connection string at run-time like this. You make the connection string setting available for writing as a separate property inside the MySettings class:

Then, in some place when the application is being initialized (before using any table adapters of typed datasets), write something like:
My.Settings.RunTimeConnectionString = My.Settings.ProductionConnectionString
Where ProductionConnectionString is a simple String setting. It is a User Scope setting so every user can change it (by assigning a value to it, similar to the code above) and save it by calling My.Settings.Save()This code works well for connection strings which were initially created in the main project and stored in it's settings (= app.config file).
The connection string in the app.config actually has a longer name: MyApp.MySettings.MyConnectionString.When you have a connection string stored in the app.config in a class library project, and reference that project in the main project, the app.config files will somehow be merged, so the class library has it's settings.The thing that don't know how to do, is change a setting from the class library at run-time. I could copy the connection string setting from the class library to the main project's app.config. I must keep the same name, which looks something like: MyClassLibrary.My.MySettings.MyConnectionString.Can the same principle I showed above be somehow applied to this second connection string?
Updating a VB6 prog in VS2005 on Windows 7. The prog has an MDI + child forms and there are a number of content types, with varying numbers of controls being set up and positioned from setup files.On forms which are not child forms I can easily add controls at run time like this:

I have an MDI application which uses fixed sized forms. I've started to change the forms to sizeable and anchored the controls so they move when the form is resized. If the child form has a menu this jumps onto the parent menu (as it always has done) but all the controls move up the form at runtime and leave a space at the bottom of the child. If I change the form in design mode to cut through the bottom controls i.e. so the form doesn't appear tall enough, it corrects itself at runtime. Is there another workaround as it looks misleading in the designer.

Initially, the node 1 is parent and its child nodes are 2 and 3. The node 3 has child nodes 4 and 5. At run time the pressure changes. Now, node 3 is parent and its child nodes are 1, 4 and 5. View 1 RepliesI have a program I've been working on for some time now and I'd like to try to streamline it somewhat. I have a main menu form that has a split panel, in the left panel is a treeview that displays forms you can open and when one is selected, it opens in a child window in the right panel. Each time I open form I called DWNForm, it does a series of dataset loads which are the populating items for a series of listviews.
What I would like to do is have these datasets load once during the mainMenu load and then have the DWNForm be able to access the datasets once it is called from the treeview selection.
I have create a project with one main form window and also i have to use a number of other forms as well. now i want to open these other forms inside the main window and not outside. I'm using Visual Studio .NET 2010 as developing environment.

So, within the child form it want to do whatever I like to the IMAGELIST! I have tried passing the object by reference and anything I could think of.
When I open my child form,

It opens up the new form, but now I can not interact with my main form. It will not accept focus or allow me to interact with it.
Do I need to change the form type?
The problem is that icon on the Child Form appear in front of Menu strip control on MDI form when child form is maximised.

I am trying to create a simple parent-child form in VB2010. I use a datagridview for each table/datasource and each is bound to the paretn/child table and each table grid fills correctly. What I want is the parent-child relation to enforce filling the child table with only rows that fulfill the current row on the parent. I have created a DataRelation in the form load, but it will not permit a relation between tables in 2 different datasets. If I attempt to place both tables in a single dataset and define the PK-FK relation in the SQL Serve,r I cannot create 2 separate datagrids from the same dataset.

I know that you can add a data source in design by going through the Wizard but what if one would want to create the connection, adapter, and dataset during runtime? Where would you start?
I have cruzed the net looking for some form of a tutorial to just get me started, I don't need it all completely outlined but I need to know where and how to start and what I need to declare the connection, string, and dataset as. I have seen a lot of information using VB6 but nothing that I come across seems to work.
My basic questions are:Do I have to create a seperate class for the database connection?How do I delcare the nuts and bolts of the connection,adapter, and dataset?If a seperate class isn't required then where is the most realistic place these items would be created?
How can you add a system DSN with its security credentials programmatically at runtime from VB.NET? Keeping key in ODBC.INI is done, but when creating ODBC, it asks for Authentication Type (SQL or Network Login).How can we set that option at runtime?
