Load Images And RTFs Into RichTextBox And Picture Box At Runtime Using Menus?

I am not a total newbie to Visual Basic. However, the last time I used it was back in the days of DOS and Windows 3.11. Now I am using VS10 on a Windows Vista machine and it so different, I feel like a total newbie.
I am working on a project that I wish to load RTF files into a RichTextBox and an accompanying image into a PictureBox at runtime. I want this to happen when the user clicks a Menu Choice.[code]....

I'm having a problem with displaying JPEG images in a RichTextBox. When I insert a JPEG image into a RTB it automatically gets converted to a wmetafile8 and displays correctly - however, if i insert a JPEG image into file via another method (currently using the web) it get saved as a jpegblip (as you would expect) but the RTB will not display it. Opening the rtf document in Word displays the image correctly.I have tried this with png and gif files also but none of the images will display unless they are wmetafiles. Is this a limitation with the RichTextBox or is there another reason?

I have used couple of images on various button and label controls. I imported them by "Add Resources" window from project properties window.Everything is quite well at design time. But at runtime, no image is shown on those controls. I tried it from properties window. Then also tried from runtime by using "Button1.image=My.Resources.ImageName". But all are in vein.I did not change that application directory.

I have been looking all over the internet for the answer to this question: How do you save an Image (actually a Bitmap) to an ImageList at runtime? I have an extremely simple image editor that I created to make the images I require for another program. I have incorporated the image editor into the other program. However I cannot figure out how to save user-created images in the ImageList I am displaying via ListView. If I am aimed in the right direction, I can usually find my way through the maze.Additionally, I may need to know how to select that image (I may be able to figure this out later).

I had a project which will have a function to resize the images in the picturebox..i've seen some code snippet in resizing the images. The code works fine but it automatically resizes the image when i run the program..what i need is that the user will be the one who will resize the pictures..does anyone knows how to do this? i'm using vb 2008.

I've looked in a few places but haven't had much luck in finding what I'm after.So I have a picturebox on my windows form and it has an image set to it, I also have a bunch of reference files that reference to a bunch of images.
Me.PictureBox1.Image = My.Resources.imgs.image1
That piece of code works.
Now, I tried to databind the picture box to a database so the images would load on the change of a combo box but that got confusing really fast so what I did was created a database and it holds all the image references such as "My.Resources.imgs.image1" but its stored as type varchar(50).
Connecting to the database and retreiving the strings is no problem, that works all fine.The problem is converting the string to the image reference, it doesn't work. I've tried type casting, I tried using imagelocation rather than image but I want to reference to the resources that is attached to the project.

I'm experimenting with the RichTextBox control. My goal is to replace certain user input with an image object. For example, when the user used ":-)" in the RichTextBox it will be replaced with a simple image (like ).
I use the TextChanged event on the RichTextBox to replace any found textual smiley with an image. The code below works, but only works on the first found ":-)". When the user used ":-)" twice the first image is being removed from the RichTextBox. No matter howmuch times ":-)" is found, there will only be one image in the RichTextBox (for the last found ":-)").

When I set the button background image in properties, it looks great. When the button is clicked, the image needs to change. I tried to use an image list like this: btnSample.BackgroundImage = ImlStimuli.Images.Item(0)and I tried loading them from a file. I can get them to read, but the image always turns out blurry or distorted. I've tried all variations of alignment, BackgroundImageLayout like stretch/zoom/centered, and I changed flat style, but nothing has worked. Is there a setting or something that I'm missing in properties?
