I am developing a visual basic 2008 express edtion program of an organisation that should get images from the system and display on image/picture box. further the program should save the displayed image in access database so that it can be retrieved together when you want to search the information about that particular employee.
View 7 RepliesI have this url as an example: [URL] As one can see, it returns a nice picture--just what I need. Now, I need to put that "picture" inside a picture box or perhaps save it to a file. I would prefer the first as I believe it would be faster. Note the picture comes to us in a .gif format. I use vb 2005.

I want to make a program similar to this one: [URL]. I already have the ListBox ready. But how do I load the images?
The image name works like this:
-File1.package
-File1A.jpg
-File1B.jpg
So the .package is removed and A.jpg or B.jpg is added.
I am trying to add Images using open file dialog and folder browse dialog and populating the image list to listbox.While adding these Images I need to show the progress bar for every image it loads.
I am trying to get that but when the value of the progress bar say something around 25 0r 40 it is stopping at that point but I need to show the progress bar until it completes the 100% and then populates the Image list.
Here is my code:
Private Sub AddImages_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles AddImages.Click
If Not Directory.Exists(Application.StartupPath + "Backup") = True Then

I am using several instances of a panel object I am creating.I would like to be able to draw a diagonal line from the upper right to the lower left corner of some of the instances.I have been able to create the panel with a background image that has a white line on a transparent background, and I can switch it on and off, but I would like the line to have the active text color.How can I make an image object that uses the system palette?
View 6 RepliesMy plan is to use a database to hold her recipes and create a user interface with search controls and different stuff, this way she will be able to add new recipe's and the program will have a much more modern feel to it.
My question is, I have added a picture box control to the new recipe form and when I click on the picture box I want the program to load "my pictures" and let me select a picture to load into the picture box, like you can on ebay when you are selling stuff, you can select your picture and it loads into the picture box.
As far as starting this off, I can add a double click event on the picture box control, this will trigger whatever code I need to use to load the open file dialog.
Can I use simaler code that I used for a text editor program I wrote for opening saved documents?
I have a window application develpoed in vs 2008, framework 3.5, in which i have put a button.. Now where i click that button the other text boxes are filled up with the data from database thru web service.. what i want is while all text boxes are being filled i want to show an animated loading gif image till data loading is completed in all the text boxes.. i have tried to use image picture box but while data is loading gif image is displyes but in static mode.. cant see animation... i think this is because data loading and animation both are done thru one UI thread..
View 8 RepliesI'm working on a playlist and would like to have 2 different highlight colors. I'm using the DrawItem Event with the following code..
Private Sub PlaylistBox1_DrawItem(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.Windows.Forms.DrawItemEventArgs) Handles PlaylistBox1.DrawItem
e.DrawBackground()
[Code]....
I want the item above the selected item to be highlighted in red. Basically what I'm looking for is the select item is green"next cue" and the previous item is red meaning it is currently playing.
I know how to have alternate row colors with ListView. But how about with ListBox? I've run a search. I read in some web sites where they say you can't. Is that true? Meanwhile, I've done something like:
For i As Integer = 0 To ListBox1.Items.Count - 1 Step 1
If i Mod 2 = 0 Then
ListBox1. BackColor = Color.FromArgb(150, 250, 255)
Else
ListBox1. BackColor = Color.White
End If
Next i
with ListBox's DrawItem event. And it doesn't work.

How do I make it so that each item in the same listbox can have a different font color?

I am currently working at an, as the topic tittle says, ListBox control, writed in pure GDI to inproe my GDI skills.The problem is the ListBox items (defined as ListeItm), i tryes to make the ListBox items to show up every other in two different colors.
To do so, i have created a boolean called "lf". When the ListBox item is created it checks what the value of lf the last Item got, and chose the opposit, but somehow, it is not working.
Imports System.Drawing.Drawing2D
Public Class Liste
Inherits Control
Dim G As Graphics, B As Bitmap

In the process of creating an Icon object, I need to reduce the numbers of colors in an image from thousands down to 256 or less. I do this by "chromatizing" the RGB values - counting the colors - then re-iterating the process with heavier "chromatization" until the number of colors is reduced to my requirement.
I searched these forums and google on this subject to find out more - but I found that I alone call this process "chromatization" it seems. So I was hoping someone could help me out with the correct terminology.
Specifically, I want to use the correct terminology on my UI buttons (at present I have a button labeled [Chromatize] . .) and I am curious as to whether it would be good practice to "chromatize" the Green most heavily, the Red more moderately, and the Blue least . . . or just "chromatize" them all equally which is what I have been doing
PicBox(0, 0).Image = My.Resources.ship1
PicBox(0, 1).Image = My.Resources.ship2
Ive been programming in VB6 for years, i figured its time for an upgrade. Here's what im doing, and what the problem is:
Im loading a bunch of pictures on top of one image. They are all PNG files, and some of the images have transparent edges, and some semi-transparency within the image itself.
So basically, i need to be able to load these images on top of the other images, and still maintain the transparency.
Is this possible in VB08? This is one of the main reasons i moved to 08 from vb6, more things possible including multithreading.
I have made a little application for me and my friend to be able to chat with eachother, but now we have some unclear strings as you can see on the image below:
I would like to change for example the username or time date to a color or make it bold, could anyone tell me how to change ONLY that and not everything? I'd love to have such a thing as it makes the whole application way 'clearer'.
As you see the code given below is not very useful. Is it possible to shorten the code. Mousewheel back and forward give the same result (next image). Keydown cannot be configured.
Private Sub Images_Load(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles MyBase.Load
count += 1
If count + 1 > ImageList1.Images.Count Then
[Code] .....
I have about 100 PNG images stored in a Resource. Sometimes I need to have the same images in an ImageList, but I do not want to store the images twice in my application, so I add the images from the Resource to the ImageList during runtime when I need them.
Is there an easier way to do this than having 100 lines of code, like the small example below?
imgItems.Images.Add("A", My.Resources.A)
imgItems.Images.Add("B", My.Resources.B)
imgItems.Images.Add("C", My.Resources.C)
imgItems.Images.Add("D", My.Resources.D)
'etc
'etc
I am using the following piece of code to load images as thumbnails to a FlowLayoutPanel control. Unfortunately i get an OutOfMemory exception.As you already guess the memory leak is found at line
Pedit.Image = System.Drawing.Image.FromStream(fs)
So how could i optimize the following code?
Private Sub LoadImagesCommon(ByVal FlowPanel As FlowLayoutPanel, ByVal fi As FileInfo)
Pedit = New DevExpress.XtraEditors.PictureEdit
Pedit.Width = txtIconsWidth.EditValue
[code]....
Update: The problem occurs while loading a number of images (3264x2448px at 300dpi - each image is about 3Mb's)
Is there any efficient way to load all of the images that my program will use upon start-up such that when I load those images into pictureboxes during runtime regardless of what form I may be using, the images will load faster?Does that make sense?I've read about ImageLists, but do they actually load the images or is it just a way to manage image files?
View 2 RepliesI have got two image folders namely a and b which consist of images of products. All images are save as there productid. how can can i find the images from a folder by passing there productid and save the images in a list.Dim AllImages As New List(Of String)

I want to load images into a picturebox, save them into a database and display them again in the picturebox. This is the code I'm actually having problem with:

I am currently new to visual basic and I am using Microsoft Visual Basic 2010. I am trying to create a small game in which i want to use 8 images. These images are imported in my resources under images as _0.gif _2.gif up to _7.gif. I could write code for each of the imageboxes individually but i prefer doing it in an array as shown below. As you can see I use the variable "i" to run a for, next loop.
picbox(i).Image =
My.Resources._1
So that not every time it loads the image. _1.gif but it loads the images _0.gif through _7.gif, based on the "i" variable.
For
i As
Integer
= 0 To
7
picbox(i) =

I have a 4 pictureboxes for a database I made but having a problem with loading images in to the picturebox. On my form I have a picturebox, 1 button, 1 textbox, and 1 openfiledialog.
My button click event code
Private Sub Button1_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button1.Click
OpenFileDialog1.ShowDialog()
TextBox1.Text = OpenFileDialog1.FileName
Pic1PictureBox.Image = Image.FromFile(TextBox1.Text)
End Sub
I can add pics but if I don't select any image (just close the dialogbox) I get an error and not sure what to do ..or what to add. Is there any code to tell it to just close..
Problem is, i do have two forms. Form-1 is the parent and Form-2 is the child. Form-2 is having so many executable functions built in. Therefore when i am calling form-2 from form-1, always that takes few seconds to upload(although negligible).
Now I got a very nice ajex_loading.gif picture (moving) form Google and was thinking why not showing that pic in between my form loading process. Added PictureBox property. Telling it to show()...but still that is feeling shy at me
[Code]...
i know this is probally a really simple question but i have looked through my book and all my notes and googeled and couldn't find a answer that suites my needs.baisicly i have a combobox that gets loaded on form_load, what i want to do is load the appropriate picture into a picturebox when someone selects a item from the combobox. what i cant figure out is how to get the picture into the combobox using code. all the images are saved in my debug folder for the program. picturebox.image = picture.png this is what i asumed it would be but have tried with parenthises, quotes and both and it dosent work.
