Loading Images From Resource Into ImageList?

Nov 21, 2010

I have about 100 PNG images stored in a Resource. Sometimes I need to have the same images in an ImageList, but I do not want to store the images twice in my application, so I add the images from the Resource to the ImageList during runtime when I need them.

Is there an easier way to do this than having 100 lines of code, like the small example below?

imgItems.Images.Add("A", My.Resources.A)
imgItems.Images.Add("B", My.Resources.B)
imgItems.Images.Add("C", My.Resources.C)
imgItems.Images.Add("D", My.Resources.D)
'etc
'etc

VS 2010 Add More Images To Imagelist?

Aug 26, 2011

I have a picture viewer with listbox,listview,picturebox. I used code snipets and modified them for about 3 weeks now. It works pretty good too i think. But when i add images as thumbnails to my imagelist from openfiledialog i can only add about 75 images any more and i will get a out of memory error. Or if I add say like 50 twice the second 50 added will have the right names but not the right image. My question is. Is there a way to load some images pause then load some more by code for about 250 images so that the loading could clean some memory? And or code where i could add aditional images to the imagelist? And i just cant stop trying to get this Picture viewer to work right.

The code given below works fine. The only problem is mouse wheel/keyup cannot be used after the TOP image is displayed, it fills the keyboard buffer. Then I have to wait awhile to use wheel/keydown. Also the images after wheel/keydown goes beyond last image. It should stop at the last image like it stops at the first image. Code courtesy of Geek On Demand.

Image Resource Not Loading In PictureBox1?

Jun 11, 2010

I cannot seem to get my image resources to load into PictureBox1.I can see all the images I added as resources in the solution explorer.They are a series of PNG files with names associated with countries.I am at the beginning stages of randomly changing the image that is displayed in PictureBox1, but I cannot even get the first image to load.Here is my code so far. When I click on Button2 I can see that my array returns a random country, but no image loads.I even tried typing in several of the countries names as well as the country name followed by png (e.g. chine.png) and again no image loads.

Populate Array With Resource Images

Nov 6, 2011

I'm trying to make a Blackjack game in VB. What I'd like to do is populate an array with each of the cards so that I can randomly generate integers and use those integers to pull an index from the array, basically randomly selecting a card. My problem is that I can't seem to get the images in the resources folder to go into the array. I'd like to use a For/Next loop to populate the array, as I would rather not manually assign all 52 cards to the array. I'm trying to do it like this:

Dim CardArray(51) As Image
Dim LoopIndexInteger As Integer
For LoopIndexInteger = 0 To 51
CardArray(LoopIndexInteger) = My.Resources.ResourceManager.GetObject(LoopIndexInteger)
Next

Loading A DataGridView (or DataRepeater) From A Text File As A Project Resource (not XML)?

Feb 15, 2012

So there's lots of examples of how to do this if your text file happens to be in XML format. However, my text file is not in XML format and as it contains over 172,000 rows I'm not that keen on adapting it (it's a dictionary)! The text file has been included in the project as a resource.
So far I've got a DataGridView (could use a DataRepeater if easier?), a BindingSource and a DataSet.

The DataSet has a DataTable already defined in the designer with one column.I've managed to load the text file into a String and then create a StringReader based on that String variable, however I cannot find anyway of loading those strings into the DataTable.

Dim listWords As String = My.Resources.WordList Dim strReader As New System.IO.StringReader(listWords)
'What now???There are some examples of using OleDb functionality but all assume you're loading from a text file residing somewhere in the filesystem, not a project resource.(I'm also assuming that on building the application the resources get embedded (somewhere) rather than being accessed from [AppDir]/Resources/[filename] ??)

Out Of Memory Exception While Loading Images?

Jan 31, 2011

I am using the following piece of code to load images as thumbnails to a FlowLayoutPanel control. Unfortunately i get an OutOfMemory exception.As you already guess the memory leak is found at line

Pedit.Image = System.Drawing.Image.FromStream(fs)

So how could i optimize the following code?

Private Sub LoadImagesCommon(ByVal FlowPanel As FlowLayoutPanel, ByVal fi As FileInfo)
Pedit = New DevExpress.XtraEditors.PictureEdit
Pedit.Width = txtIconsWidth.EditValue

[code]....

Update: The problem occurs while loading a number of images (3264x2448px at 300dpi - each image is about 3Mb's)

Loading Images With Different Filenames Using One Line Of Code

May 27, 2011

I am currently new to visual basic and I am using Microsoft Visual Basic 2010. I am trying to create a small game in which i want to use 8 images. These images are imported in my resources under images as _0.gif _2.gif up to _7.gif. I could write code for each of the imageboxes individually but i prefer doing it in an array as shown below. As you can see I use the variable "i" to run a for, next loop.
picbox(i).Image =
My.Resources._1
So that not every time it loads the image. _1.gif but it loads the images _0.gif through _7.gif, based on the "i" variable.

For
i As
Integer
= 0 To
7
picbox(i) =

Creating A Custom Media Library - Loading Images For Rendering?

Jul 22, 2010

i'm working on a project right now and I need to create a graphic library.The game I'm experimenting with is an RPG; this project is expected to contain many big graphic files to use and I would prefer not to load everything into memory at once, like I've done before with other smaller projects.So, does anyone have experience with libraries such as this one? Here's what I've came up with:

Have graphic library files and paths in an XML file Each entry in the XML file would be designated "PERMANENT" or "TEMPORARY", with perm. being that once loaded it stays in memory and won't be cleared (like menu-graphics)The library that the XML file loads into would have a CLEAR command, that clears out all non-PERMANENT graphics I have experience throwing everything into memory at startup, and with running the program running with the assumption that all necessary graphics are currently in memory.
