Creating A Byte() Dynamically?

Aug 6, 2009

I am working on a simple windows app that will take our TripleDESCryptoServiceProvider Key and IV from a file and use it to Encrypt and Decrypt strings, etc...This works great and has for years in a utility program, but I want an easy app that can read the Key and IV...following format in the txt file:

[KEY] {123,123,123,123,132,132,123,...}
[IV] {23,23,23,23,23,...}

And then create the Encryption Pair...Currently I have the following

clientDESCryptoServiceProvider = New _
TripleDESCryptoServiceProvider
clientDESCryptoServiceProvider.Key = New Byte() {111, 222, 333,...}
clientDESCryptoServiceProvider.IV = New Byte() {1,2,3,...}

Is there any way to pull the {111,222,333,...} and {1,2,3,...} from a text file and create the Byte() that is required?I can read the info from the text file, but cannot seem to create the right format for generating the Byte()?

Creating A Byte Array Using Long Datatype?

May 4, 2009

Most of the time when we read the file stream into a byte array, we would write the following code.[code]But here we have to convert Length into an integer type (line 2 of the code above) since we cannot declare a byte array using the long data type (with option strict on). Is this a good practice? What is the work around for this problem?

Creating Objects Based On Database?

Jun 9, 2011

I have decided I would start small and make a program that would create a "receipt" list in a listbox and a total. Now, I would like the user to be able to add their own "menu" items. I'm assuming the best way to go about this would be to have them actually add it to a database and then a function in the program will refresh the dataset with the new list. However, this is where my problem lies. How can I tell VB .net 2010 that I want to create a new button (or buttons) on the fly, in an orderly pattern on the form, based on the input from a DB?

I have a SQL database which I'm running a query against to return a list of names - eg using "select names from table"I would like to add all of these names to an array so I can use them later. To do this I would need to use a dynamic array as the number of names returned could be anything.Apart from first running "select count(names) from table", getting a value and then Redim'ing the array on the count is there another method I can use.I've seen there's a dataset row.count? Can I somehow use this?

Creating Variables Based On Textbox Input?

Nov 6, 2011

I have a form with a few text boxes, one of which has it's contents stored to a integer variable.

The value stored will end up being one of a few numbers ranging from 12 to 98, and I need to the same number of new variables as the number in the textbox.

Can I automate the creation of new variables based on the value stored, or do I need to define the max number required and just ignore the rest when using less?

IDE :: Creating An Array Of A Structure Based On Existing Project?

May 1, 2009

how to write the code for my project.I am to base my new project on an existing one(existing one has code that works 100%)and create an Array of a structure that bascially holds the information from a summary form AND the totals from an AddToOrder_Click event. If you are still with me)... I cant figure out what the code is for my structure and Array so that I STILL have a Summary Form but I have an array that shows when I click my PrintPreview. So an Array is basically a "space" that holds information, like my summary form except it doesnt show until I click PrintPreview right?

If I just wanted to show the table then my code belongs in the PrintDocument1_PrintPage to show the array but the actual structure code belongs in the Click_Event of my AddToOrder? Please Please understand I AM NOT asking for anyone to write my code, basically I am asking for some clarification on what exactly creating an array from a structure is and therefore determing where the structure is to be placed in my code..

Sql Server - Join Tables Based On A Column Without Creating Records For Every Combination

Mar 20, 2012

I have two tables as follows:

Customer | Product
------------------
A | Car
A | Bike
A | Boat

[Code].....

If I use a normal JOIN then I get a list of friends for every separate product. I just want the two lists once.

The output lists with '-' need not be table cells, they can be <ul>s.

How can I achieve this? I would like to bind to ASP.net GridView. Should I try to do it all in one query, or use multiple queries and somehow add them both to the same Grid?

Each row actually forms part of a long report. Essentially each row of the report contains Customer ID, a bunch of other fields which match one-to-one with Customer ID, then the two lists for each Customer ID I described. Perhaps I can use a separate query for each list, then manually add each list to the grid on RowDataBound or similar?

Change Byte() To Structs For Readability And Convert Struct To Byte Stream For Socket Send()

Dec 8, 2009

I just converted the following code from c# to vb.net. It is functional and works correctly with my company's firmware/devices. My next challenge. Previous serialport code used much more readable structs which where then converted (after building a packet) into byte() automatically as part of the serialport encoding. (this is my understanding)How could I

1. morph byte arrays 'ToSocket' and 'ToMTP' below into structs and

2. convert into byte array for Socket.BeginSend(byte(),.....) to stream out to remote devices?

Truncating Data Types From Int To Byte, Transferring 8 LSBs To The Byte?

I have tried this using CType with the following code, however it does not work.
