My company is making thousands of products now, every one of them have several test report in excel files. I am thinking about putting all of them into a microsoft sql database,
1. Is it wise to do so? I think a sql database is a lot easier to manage.
2. Can I save or convert the excel file as one data in a table? How could I do it? I only see a image type for data type. Surely I expect to retrieve the excel file through ASP.Net website if necessary.oh, some additional info, every excel file is not big, but it contains pictures inside sometimes.
I have a multitude of VB .NET programs that generate reports in Excel that I populate from an SQL Database locally. My boss wants me to port all these to ASP.net so that users could then access these reports with dynamicly generated results on a browser page.Before jumping onto imbeding Excel objects using ASP.NET from the code I have in VB .NET I was wondering on what kind of approach to use. What could be the most effective way to convert/display these reports in real time to the user via a Browser?

In the full version of the program I have two sets of connections one for when we are inside our vpn, which uses local ip addresses and DNS names; and the other which uses the external IP addresses and DNS names.This works quite well; if the user has stored credentials on their pc for the connection they connect straightaway; and if they don't the .rdp dialogue opens up with the server name/address filled in, ready for them to edit the rest of the required information.The problem for me is that this means I have to code 43 different Private Subs and then link the buttons; and I was hoping that instead of individually coding each connection, I could get the users to:Select by an option button whether the connection was internal or external

I have been given the task of debugging someone else's program. It previously ran flawlessly on a 32-bit Windows XP system, but now we are steadily switching over to 64-bit systems and this program has "spit the bit" so to speak.

This works great is str, str1 and str2 have a value and only one value. But I want to make it so if the value isn't there or there is only one value there is no comma and if there are multiple commas there is a comma.
I'm working on a mass text replacer program because I'm sick of all the 10-day trial ones out there that aren't very good.The entire program is basically finished (All easy stuff), but now I need to code the actual replace/delete stuff, which I'm stuck on because apparently the way I originally intended to do it is not possible.
The way it works is you load a text file (.txt, .cfg, .ini, .doc, etc.) which opens a StreamReader which writes all the data into a listbox. Then you pick whether you want to replace or delete a string. If you select replace, then you enter the string to search for and in another textbox you enter the string to replace it with.
The way I originally intended to do this was like this:

The problem is, I believe this method requires txtfile, str1 and a1 to be strings, but they're all 1-dimensional string arrays, which cannot be converted to strings, or at least I don't know how to convert them.
A friend told me one way I could do this is to open both a StreamReader and StreamWriter and do the replace/delete line by line as they are entered into the memory and write them to a temporary file which is then copied over the original. I can do this kind of, but I still don't know the proper way of doing the actual replace code because the string to find and the string to replace with are still 1-dimensional string arrays rather than strings.

I've been working with VB6, 2003, 2005 and 2010 and I've always hardcoded my database passwords. Recently we ran into a problem where we would like to change all our db passwords for audit purposes. The problem is passwords for different dbs have been hardcoded in all our programs. How can I create programs going forward without hard coding the passwords in? I think I should be using a config file of some sort, but not sure how or where to start.

In this case I only need to test for existance of the specified character and in a similar query to test for the non existence. Not where it is or how many, just is it there or is it notI am using VB express.net 2008 and it uses, I think, MS SQL Server 2008.Using VB's instr() I can tell straight away if a string does or doesn't contain a character, but I would like to know this before I retrieve the row.

How to check if string entered in a text box matches a field in a data table.I have a form with two text boxes for users to enter their Username and Password. When they enter their details and click the 'Login' button I want their details to be checked against data in a data table to see if they match or not. I am using an 'if...else' statement but can't work out the syntax to use. Why? They are both effectively a function pointer (or delegate?) to a function that accept a string and return a string.
I have 1 string of 12 numbers separated by a ',' "11.11,22.22,33.33" etc coming in my serial port. One number has so far been 5339, but now its changed to 533d, which causes problems, for reasons I am still trying to work out.
The top numbers are all real numbers ie 0.000 or 00.00 or 000.0, whereas the bottom 3 numbers are Hex FFFFF but just happen to show decimal numbers by 'good luck'.[code]....
