The data coms back fine and is presenting in the DGV without any trouble, but I don't like the order the data is being returned in.A long solution might be to modify the SProc to return the data in a different order, but I prefer to handle this on the UI for simplicity. Also, I know the user can re-order but that presents a specific poblem in the way the columns are structured.Is there a way to programmatically change the order at runtime?Here's the ode I have on the UI. If you need to see the adapter class also, please let me know and I'll present it, too.

I am working on a project. Part of my project requires me to capture data, for example, email address, from certain rows/columns of a datagridview(form2.vb) and displays them in a textbox on another windows form(form1.vb) with a click of a button(Add Contact button). The problem is the datagridview on my form must be able to display databases by making a connection to Microsoft SQL Server 2005 but so far, i have not been able to do that. I have seen many codes with regards to my problem but i do not know how to implement it.

I have a DataGridView (dgv) on a Windows form (VB.NET) which is bound to a datatable. One of the bound columns is a an ID (Foreign Key) to another datatable. All I want to do is Hide the ID column and populate an unbound column with the Name (ParmName) for the user. I searched the foreign value in the datatable and retrieved the information. I set the Value of the cell in the Datarow. All works well, but does not display. The cell accepts the value...I can even Debug.Print the values to the console. They are there just nothing displaying in DataGridView. Nothing odd about DataGridView. Should be straight forward...

I have an Access table that contains "Customer Number".
I have an ODBC dataset (iSeries IBM Client Access, or AS/400 data) with a customer table in it. I want to link the customer numbers in the access table to the ODBC table so I can show the customer number from the access table and the customer name, city, and state from the ODBC table.
I want to display this information in a grid. I also want to be able to add records to the grid (which adds them to the access table). What is the best way to get started doing this? I am using VB2005. I could use MS Access and have it done in about 2 minutes, but I want to take the plunge and learn VB2005.
But this VB2005 and .net thing seems like they re-wrote the book on programming and I cant seem to get a grasp on it. I have tried several projects like this in hopes of learning, but ended up abandoning them in frustration.

For a school programming project we are supposed to create a database with 2 tables country, and continent.then we populate country with every country name, population and continentID. For continent we populate with each continent name.
i have completed this step, and i am able to run a linq query to display all countries and corresponding continent into a datagridview. My problem arises because we are supposed to display each record one at a time, and be able to cycle through one at a time. I cannot for the life of me figure out how to do this.
for example if i made a query to select all countries in africa, i want to beable to display the name of the country, and population in textboxes. then have a next button that will go to the next record.

The form is up and running but I want to be able to add some more code. I have assigned Stored Procedure to each click event for each button. What I wantr to be able to do is after value is added to text box and button is clicked if there are no reults to display than a message box is displayed with adequate message detailing this. Also is it possible to add a count of records to the form. I have a multitude of VB .NET programs that generate reports in Excel that I populate from an SQL Database locally. My boss wants me to port all these to ASP.net so that users could then access these reports with dynamicly generated results on a browser page.Before jumping onto imbeding Excel objects using ASP.NET from the code I have in VB .NET I was wondering on what kind of approach to use. What could be the most effective way to convert/display these reports in real time to the user via a Browser?

View 3 RepliesI have a dialog that is displayed concurrently with the main form and it has a datagridview showing a list of x,y values. The user can actively change the DGV in the dialog, but if I reference the DGV from the main form, it will not capture the user changes, but report the original values that were in the cells. I'm sure there is some sort of refresh or update event I am missing, but I have tried all the VS suggested options for the DGV and the dialog that seem relevant with no luck.
View 3 RepliesI have a problem with a datagridview control, when first loaded with existing data it shows the correct rowcount figure.However, I have a function that when invoked triggers an oledbcommand to clear those records from the database (access) and load new ones from a file (excel/text).The oledbcomands work fine, and the gridview refreshes with the new data fine. However, the rowcount after this refresh is always 0, even with records. What I am doing is creating a module for my app that allows the user to specify the column title and types for a file import - and the procedure will read the header row from a txt/csv or excel file automatically.[code]If I just make edits in the datagridview (as in not invoke the above) the rowcount returns properly.If I close and re-open the form the new data appears, and the rowcount property returns fine also, but I don't really want to have to tell the user to close and re-open it before making any changes.I must be missing something on the refresh or with the datatable or adapter side of things.

I have a datagrid bound to a datatable. The datatable will then be written to an xml file using the built in "WriteXML" function, which is sweet!
What I would like to do is update the table then overrite the existing XMl file when a cell value changes.
The problem is the "CellValueChanged" event is fired before changes are actually committed to the dataset. I do not want to use the "CellValidated" event because it will fire for each row when the file is forst loaded into the dataset and displayed in the datagrid.
