Jun 14, 2008I know how to display or manipulate (add, delete, update, search) records using the OleDbDataReader and OleDbCommand class. But I'm clueless in getting the total record on a query.

View 1 RepliesI have some reports that I use with the MS ReportViewer and I need to get a count of the physical pages (as opposed to logical page count) to use with a print dialog. I've implemented a workaround so the ReportViewer control displays the correct number of physical pages, but is there a way to get that value from the ReportViewer control? The only publicly accessible property gives the logical page count.

View 3 RepliesI am trying to figure out how to get the max record count before i populate a listview grid. I'm using the Oracle 10g DB and I've tried:
SELECT COUNT(*) as countNum, status, date, theTitle, theMessage, date2 " & _
"FROM blah blah...
messagebox.show(dr(0))
But that makes the SQL query crash. It doesnt seem as though i am about to put anything related to "count" in my query or it will crash so is there any other way i can see how many records it returns other than that?
I've written some code to try some thing. I don't get an error message. However, the record count return " zero". I declare some objects and make a connection. That all works fine. But no records.
Here's the code :
Public Class Form1
Dim vtest As VariantType
Dim cn As ADODB.Connection
Dim rs As ADODB.Recordset
Dim cmd As ADODB.Command
[Code] .....
what is the maximum record count for a datagrid in vb.net?
View 4 RepliesI am trying to fetch my record count in my following query:
myCommand = New OleDbCommand("SELECT status, date, theTitle,
theMessage, date2, COUNT(*) over () as countNum
FROM Blah blah...[code].....
But it just closes my program. If i comment that out then it populates just fine and doesn't close. What could i do to correct this?
I am having trouble Counting the number of rows in a specific column in a datatable.
View 2 RepliesI'm fine with both C# and VB.NET..I have two tables. Authors and Books. It's a one to many relationship, Authors to Books. I'm writing a query to show how many books that each author has.[code]But in the Authors table, there are some authors without any books yet. For example, there two authors, Author D and Author E that have no books yet. I want to write query that includes all authors and number of ther books, even though they don't have any book yet, no record in the Books table yet.

How to i display how many records that i have in a label on my main form for example if i had 3 table called Cusotmers, Orders, Products
How do i get it to show the total amount of each table on label 1 label 2 label 3?
I wrote some code to update the count of a field in a table, but it is very slow. So I'm trying to do it in a subquery to speed things up, but I'm not very good with subqueries. I'm getting the error "Subquery returned more than 1 value".

View 8 RepliesAs you all know, If the dataBase requires a numerical value then an error will occur when the user tries to insert the incorrect data type. With the code below after the user types in a value beside an int value type then it will go into an Loop through more than what is needed. How can I apply the same logic but allow the program not to check the 60 rows (I set the row size to 60). I want to break out of it if there are blanks ONLY if a row is blank and not for a black cell, because if the user leaves one cell blank then it would loop through the 'for each' for how many rows that they is. Initially there are 60 rows.
MIS
For Each item As DataGridViewRow In dgvLaser.Rows
If IsNumeric(item.Cells(3)) Then
Exit For
Else
MessageBox.Show("Check Record Count. Numerical values only..!")
End If
Next
records with filter property gives the correct recordcount but it displays few records when bind to the mshflexgrid

View 8 RepliesWith printing a record in Visual Basic. I have an access 2007 datasource. I'm running VB2008 express.
View 2 RepliesWe are busy with crystal reports, vs 2005. We put a simple table on the report and we want to see on every page a record. How can we force a new page in the report for the record? We don't want to do it in script.
View 1 RepliesI have a dataset; I want to create an equivalent record set. What I really want to do is create the XML that a record set can load; I have no other use for the record set per se. I want to be able to load recordsets on other machines (which use VB6 ins of vb.net) with this data. I found some code that loops through the columns in the dataset and creates the fields in the record set; that's executing. However, the code given to open the record set fails with "incompatible or incorrect parameters" or some such. [Code] I can see that a recordset is a construct meant to bridge between running code and a data store of some sort, but in this case the data is "stored" in the dataset, not anywhere else. I want to put that data in the XML form that the recordset uses, so that other code that can only use recordsets (ins of datasets) will be able to read it.
View 2 RepliesI want to know the code used to ADD, SAVE AND DELETE records in VB 2010. eg. I have a fully created DataSet, etc and I have three Buttons.. So to add a new record what code do I put in, same for the other two ( Save, Delete)
I know the code for VB6: Adodc1.Recordset.addnew ......
I just want to add a value from a textbox/variable and save it as a new record in a MS Access Database after a button click.
I've set up the database, set up the tables required.
From what I gather, I need to first link declare 'Imports System.Data' outside all the code. And also define a variable as a connection (Dim con As New OleDb.OleDbConnection) then access the database with "con.ConnectionString = "PROVIDER=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0;Data Source = PathName").
What else do I need to include?
I have this code that Deletes a record by its IP address inputted by the user. How do you check if that record is available? how do evaluate first that the IP address inputted is not in the database before deleting anything? in vb 6.0 I used to do this line:If rs.EOF And rs.BF Thenbut it doesn't work anymore in vb 2008
Code:
If TextBox1.Text = "" Then
MsgBox("Input IP Address", MsgBoxStyle.OkOnly, Title:="")
[code]......
I am having a ton of trouble trying to check if a record exists. I continue to get a data mismatch on my command.ExecuteScalar().
Code:

I am using Visual Basic 2008 Express edition along with mysql manager 2008.I have made a bank database and am looking to add a feature to update the balances of customers (individually) when i withdrawl or add money. The code i am using currently is
Private Sub Button4_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button4.Click
Me.Validate()
Me.StudentBindingSource.EndEdit()
[code]....
This is the same function as the Save record but, i want to be able to enter a value into a text box and then click the button to update the balance.
I have a self referenced table it contains Employee information, an employee reports to another employee, I've done this by including a field named ReportsTo as a foreign key that would be filled with the primary key. My first question is when using a strongly typed dataset how would I insert the first record without raising an error. the only solution that I could come up with is to insert an employee with the name NoOne and reports to himself i.e the employee number is the same as ReportsTo, this solution would be hardcoded in my program and only works when there is no records in the table. This is ok as long as I don't delete every employee from the table and try to insert new employees, in this case my insert will fail because the NoOne employee number is "1" and this would violate the index. this case calls for reseting the index each time I delete all the employees.
View 2 RepliesI am working with some DBF database files and have an interesting dilemma. I need to search through a table, find duplicates and delete them. Problem... Table doesnt contain a key.
So Table looks like this:
Name, BadgeNum
I need to be able to find instances like this:
John, 10
John, 10
and then delete just one iteration of John, 10.
Is this even possible? A "DELETE FROM TABLE WHERE BadgeNum=10" will delete both.....
I have a simple database with our customers data. I'm using access database, dataset, and a datagridview. So when I selected a row, I want to make a new row with datas from selected row. Here is my code:

I have a code made in Visual.net 2005, and I have a problem. I have an excel file where I store records. I can read this records without problem, but when I want to make a modification I get the ERROR :
"Current Recordset does not support updating. This may be a limitation of the provider, or of the selected locktype"I hope you can help me, I know that by default the file is open as readonly, but I dont know where do I have to specify the opposite.

i have a situation where I need to search a table for a specific record that matches an ID number the user will specify. I know 2 methods to accomplish this. The first would involve writing some VB.net code that would call a TSQL statement and return the value through the return parameter. The second method would involve creating a dataset and populating it with a select statement.
