I would like to know the best, or standard, way to accomplish real-time client updates in a small multi-user application using an access data table as a data source.Specifically, this application will be used by 3-4 people. It uses a datatable which is filled on form load and bound to a datagrid at design time. The datatable is stored on a shared drive. The data table on the shared drive is updated in two ways:
1) Users can update the datagrid which then updates the datatable on the shared drive via the data adapter's Update method.
2) A server application does some work on some text files, periodically updating the data table.
I need the clients to reflect the changes to the data table on the shared drive as closely to real-time as possible. I know that the data table stored in memory on the client is disconnected from the data table on the shared drive, so I must query again to get the updates.
1) Is there an alternvative model I can use which is connected, and which will automatically reflect the updates in the data table on the shared drive?
2) If not, what is the best way to check for changes in the data table (so I can know when to call the data adapter fill method)? I am planning to poll the drive for a change to the .mdb file, raise an event and then fill the data adapter when the event is triggered. I am using this method successfully now to check for changes to a text file in another application, and I know how to implement it?
I am trying to copy a table from a network database to a local database. I used DAO and could check if the network table existed using a function that tried to assign a TableDef object to the table in question. If there was no error then I assumed that the table existed and the function returned true...Or it would error out and return false.I could then proceed with the copy or not as the case may be.I am converting the code to ADO.net and need to know how to check for a table. The data is really, really, simple, all I need to be able to do is query a table on my MySQL database for COUNT of ID WHERE locationName = Container.DataItem during each loop of the repeater... but I don't know how to do this.I'm thinking maybe I have to do this first, create a table in memory somehow, but I am afraid I have no idea how to achieve this.

I'm looking for a way to combine a field from multiple tables into a single field in a new table. Because the data populating the tables is coming from an outside source, I would prefer not to change the data in the original files. I have a separate table for each year because this is the way the data is provided. The field layout is not consistent from year to year, but each year there is a field that we'll call "score." I'd like to pull the field "score" from each year's table and have it populate a "score" column in a new table along with the year of the data so that all the years' scores are in the same place. Is there a way to do this using Visual Basic + Access?

I have 2 databases that I am working with. One is a compant customer database and the other is my personal call log. Now I am creating a front end for the Call Log. I was updating my customer list by Importing 2 tables from the customer database, a series of queries would erase all of my info, take all the data from the imported tables and move it into mine then erase the imported tables.
Im trying to accomplish the same in my VB frontend. I can connect and fill datasets from the customer database. I can erase my tables. How do I take all of this data from the newly created dataset and move it over to my empty tables?

We are developing an application that looks like this: Mainwindow - PaneGroup - Pane
What we want to do is add a handler (AddHandler Pane, AddressOf MethodName) on the mainwindow and throw the event in the Pane. When we want something to change on a collection in the mainwindow, we throw that event in the Pane.
My question is if the pane is removed from the panegroup (doesn't exist anymore), does that handler still live on the mainwindow?
I am writing a program using databases and half way though I decided a column I had was irrelevent and removed it from my database. I have gone into my code on my forms and removed all references and removed it from the data table but I am still getting an ArgumentException in an undefined location. Am I missing somehwere that I need to remove this that was automaticaly generated or something?
View 13 RepliesI am using VS2008 and SQLite. I have created a database and several tables and am attempting to populate the tables with data from arrays.
The following code (example) works fine but stops after it inserts 30 to 50 records. I am running the VB code in debug mode and when it stops, I press pause to see where it is. It stops on "SQLcommand.ExecuteNonQuery()" and when I press continue (F5) it will insert another 30 to 50 records.
I do not get an error message. Is this a timeout issue? How do I keep the loop running to the end of the array?

I have an application which upon a save button needs to save data to 8 different tables. 7 of those tables will have multiple new records added to them, while 1 will have just one new record. The remarked area works fine when I'm accessing a specific table. I've successfully inserted the products_model field into the combobox too. The datagridview does show the table names in the db using the SHOW TABLES sql statment, but I'm not understanding how to get this info into the combobox instead.
