.net - One Dataset With Multiple Results Sets (multiple Select Statements) SQL Reporting Service?

Oct 15, 2011

I have a question regarding the dataset usage in Reporting Services. I have a stored procedure which returns multiple select statements (result tables), and I created a Dataset in Reporting Services 2005 with this stored procedure. The problem is that I can not reference the second or third result table, and I can only use the first select statement fields. Is this the limitation on Reporting Services Dataset or is there a way to use multiple table results in one dataset?

DataGridView Multiple Column Sorting

Jun 9, 2009

I'm trying to sort multple colums in the DataGridView which is unbound. I would prefer to sort by using a DataTable/DataView but for some reason another developer in my team experienced other problems relating to sorting so he abandoned using the DataTable to fill the grid :(

Here is the senario: I want the user to be able to choose which columns they want sort on. The way I envisaged was to show a form with a listbox, a grid and 3 buttons (Add to sort, Remove from sort and Apply Sort).

The list box would be populated from the parent form grid column headings.
The grid will show the columns and sort direction.
Button 1 would add the selected item of the list box to the grid.
Button 2 would remove from the grid the selected row.
Button 3 would Apply the Sort in the order of the grid and the columns SortDirection.

Now I looked at How to: Customize Sorting in the Windows Forms DataGridView Control using the IComparer [URL]

how I can use the IComparer to sort on multiple columns that a user has specified or another way to sort on multiple columns using unbound data.

Use Custom Comparer When Sorting By Multiple Columns?

Apr 7, 2011

I have a ListView (GridView) that I want to sort by 2 columns, so if 2+ items have the same value in Column 1, it sorts by Column 2. Pretty easy. But empty strings show up at the top when sorting A-Z. I'd like to move them to the bottom. I made a comparer (IComparer) that takes care of this, but I'm not sure how to use it.[code]...

Sorting List (Of Structure) - Sort Multiple Variables

Feb 17, 2011

I'm using a Listview in VirtualMode, so I can 'add' a lot of files almost instantly. A Listview in VirtualMode does not allow sorting, so I need to sort the data myself. The data is stored as a List of Structure (it's faster to load than a List of ListViewItem). The code below works fine, but I need to sort based on multiple variables in the Structure. Code:

Combing Multiple Columns For Sorting With Generic Member Expressions

May 20, 2011

I've followed examples here and here to create a generic sort with memberexpressions, but how I'm supposed to add a "ThenBy" clause, or combine multiple columns for sorting in the methodcallexpression. Ideally, the ThenBy should go before skip, but it can't because it can't see the orderby clause that I made with the methodcallexpression. GridSortExpression is a Telerik class - it just describes which column and direction the query should be sorted.

Here is what I have right now:
Dim exp As Expressions.Expression(Of Func(Of Product_Catalog, Boolean)) = PredicateBuilder.True(Of Product_Catalog)()
exp = exp.And(Function(e) e.Chapter_Price > 30)
Dim sortExpression As New List(Of GridSortExpression)({New GridSortExpression() With {.SortOrder = GridSortOrder.Descending, .FieldName = "Id"}})

DB/Reporting :: Delete From Multiple Tables?

Feb 6, 2009

I need to write and SQL query that three from three linked tables. Basically there is a 'case_id' column in each table with matching values.

What I have is:

Code:
declare @archiveYears int
set @archiveYears = -7
delete from cw_ht_bacase where case_id in (

[Code]....

As you can see I have the same query in the "in" clause for each statement. Is there a way to normalise this, sort of like C macro. Basically I'd just to define the inner select statement once and use it multiple times.

DB/Reporting :: Multiple Textbox RowFilter?

Sep 7, 2009

I can filter when I'm only checking with one textbox, but when i try to use multiple text box filters its does not work the way I want it to. I understand what is going on here but i don't know what to do to fix it. Basically I have my main form with the datagridview, there is a button on this form called filter. When the user will hit this button a small form will pop up with 5 text boxes, I want to give the user the ability to enter into any text box they wish and the datagrid view will update accordingly.The problem is when they enter into one text box it works fine, but when the try entering into a second test box the filter is only filtering from the original datatable and now the dataview.

Code:
Public Class Form2
Dim dvFilter As DataView

DB/Reporting :: Using Parameters With Multiple SQL Statements?

Jun 25, 2009

I have a connection to a MS SQL database, which I understand is capable of handling multiple SQL statements in one Execution, ie

Code:
Using cmdExe As New System.Data.SqlClient.SqlCommand
sSQL = "Delete * from mytable where UniqueID=123;Insert into mytable (UniqueID, Field) values (123, 'something')"
cmdExe.CommandText = strSingleSQLLine
cmdExe.ExecuteNonQuery()
End Using

will delete from "mytable" and insert a new record all at once. This is great, but I want to expand upon that to use parameters because using string concatenation in my SQL queries is a bad idea. Now my question is this. If I add a parameter which is used in multiple SQL statements, do I have to add the parameter VALUE twice to the command object? ie, will the following code work?

Code:
Using cmdExe As New System.Data.SqlClient.SqlCommand
sSQL = "Delete * from mytable where UniqueID=@uniqueID;Insert into mytable (UniqueID, Field) values (@uniqueID, 'something')"
cmdExe.Parameters.AddWithValue("@uniqueID", 123)

[code]....

There are two questions here actually...can I add the parameters before setting the command text, and do I have to add the same parameter over and over again?

DB/Reporting :: Accessing Multiple Database Files With One GUI Program?

how would I go about making the user access different local SQL databases. As in they use a GUI program to access / read / write data in a database but can also use that same GUI program to do the same to multiple database files.Is that sort of setup easy to integrate into a VB program? or does a VB program by nature only try to access one database? To integrate the open and close dialogs into a VB GUI in terms of different database files, is there much involved?

DB/Reporting :: Optimize Query (aggregates On Multiple Tables)?

Feb 20, 2008

Code:

I am trying to return a recordset that gives some summary information about each company. The fields in my returned recordset should look like the following.

Company.Name, NumberOfDepartments, NumberOfEmployees, NumberOfCertificationA, NumberOfCertificationACompleted, NumberOfCertificationB, NumberOfCertificationBCompleted

There are actually about 10 different Certification tables but, with Certification A and B you should get the hang of it. When an employee starts a certifaction, a record is added to the that certification table.Below is a query I wrote that works (gets me the data I need), but I am unsure if it is the most efficient way. There will be quite a lot of data so performance is an issue.

Code:

Dim sqlNumberOfDepartments As String
sqlNumberOfDepartments = _
"(SELECT COUNT(*) " & _
"FROM DEPARTMENT " & _

Wpf - Sorting Observable Collection Incorrectly Sorting?

Aug 20, 2011

I have a WPF ObservableCollection which is bound to a ListBox and I have a Sort() method which when called will convert the ObservableCollection to a List(Of T), and undertakes a sort based on a date/time column within the collection.

The data is sorted, even when new items are added to the ObservableCollection, however the date/time isn't being correctly sorted. The data is sorting based on the date however it is very much random when it comes to the time portion. The following is an example of the outcomes I am experiencing:

[Code]...

Is there anything that I am doing incorrectly in this method that would cause the time portion not be included in the sort? Is there a better way of doing a sort?

SortedList Not Sorting On Key?

Mar 24, 2009

I have a the need for key value pair that I wish to sort so I decided to use a SortedList instead of a HashTable.I am adding the data in the order below to my SortedList which is the order I need it in

Key | Value
--------------------------------
1 "700-800" | List(Of Object)
2 "900-1000" | List(Of Object)

[code]....

The key is a string and the value is a List of objects. The key is representing a time slot that has been concatenated from two integer values and delimited by "-". "700" as a string was 0700 initially an integer.e.g.

Dim key As String = slotTimeStart.ToString() & "-" & slotTimeEnd.ToString()

But once these key value pairs are added to the SortedList they appear in the order

3 "1100-1200" | List(Of Object)
4 "1700-1800" | List(Of Object)

[code]....

Unfortunately I recieve the times slots as two integer values which cannot be changed.Is there any way to force a sort on a SortedList? or is this problem because of the way I am storing my key? Is there a better way to store it?

Sorting A CSV File From Within An App

Mar 25, 2009

I have a VB.Net 2005 application in which I access a SQL Server DB to pull data into a Dataset. Within my app, this dataset is read sequentially. Then, a cross reference file is read against the dataset record. If there is a match (based on 2 fields from the dataset record), a field value from the cross reference file is used to replace a certain value in the dataset record. Once a dataset record has been read and processed...it is written to a new CSV file. This CSV file contains 5 columns.

I've been requested to now sort this new CSV file using 3 of the 5 columns as the "Sort Key". What would be the fastest way to do this?

I know one way would be to create a new dataset and insert the finished record into this new dataset in the order of the 3 fields (which I'm not sure how to setup).

Sorting Arrays In .net?

Aug 10, 2009

I need to know if there is any simple way to sort an array in visual Basic.net. I have been trying for some time without any real reliable results or wierd results. Here is the code this is the sort routine which transfers a csv text file read earlier into an array.

Private Sub btnSort_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles btnSort.Click
Dim i As Integer = 2 'inner loop
Dim j As Integer 'outer loop
Dim tempstore As String = String.Empty
ProgressSort.Minimum = 0

[Code]...

The data seems to be read into the array but the sorting takes a very long time and I am not sure if it is working or not. I have read from other forums that it is easier to sort the array read from csv before splitting it. This record I am trying to sort is 250 records long. I have no idea how long that should take. Not even sure if the algorithm I chose is correct.
