Data Reader / Arrays Listbox And Checkbox List?

I have an app that the user picks items from a checkbox list. I have the items selected saved to a seperate db table. I want to be able to have the selected items repopulate as selected if the user reopens the web page.What I've tried:I've pulled the items selected previously back to a hidden list box which works but I can't figure out how to compare what is in that list box with all the items contained in the checkbox list (this is being populated by another seperate table in the db)I've tried just a straight query and used reader but keep getting errors about cast and if I switch it to a GetDecimal, when I try to see what it's pulling, it's not the data but maybe the index: See below:Does anyone out there have a sample of can help me figure out how to just have this stupid checkbox list reselect the items that the user previously selected and saved to the db?

I have a form displayed where a user can can select a 'function' from a list box. That 'function' has a corresponding ID number which I need to be able to take and use later in the code.The List of functions is preset (about 150+ them and the IDs are already assigned (so I can't just use the index).So if the user selects "Function A", I need the code to set a variable to, for example "42" (or whatever that Funtion's ID is).
I was going to do this using listbox.item and listbox.itemData, but I'm using VB.Net in VS2008 and I understand that function is no longer present (to add ItemData at design time).Here's where it gets complicated. When the form loads it looks at the variable containing the FunctionID and if there is one present, I want it to populate the co-ordinating FunctionName. I can do that if I know the index number, but I don't know how to look at the FunctionID and return it's index (all FunctionIDs are unique).
A) store the info, either in the Listbox using ItemData, in an array (but I'd prefer to do it at design time), or some other way you might suggest.
B) cross-reference the ID and display the name in the listbox when the form loads.

im trying to populate a list box from a text file using the System.IO.StreamReader class

The program dies at lstFilePreview.Items.Insert(Counter, ObjReader.Readline.ToString)and it gives me the "Object reference not set to an instance of an object." error.

I'm studying VB 2010 at uni and struggling with this assignment, I'm stressing now with one week to go before its time to hand it in and still not knowing how to do it (even though i've read the whole textbook!)
I have copied the instructions and the files I have been given.
1 List all of the data from Teams.txt in a Listbox. Include suitable headings.
2 List all of the data from Results.txt in the Listbox (use the same Listbox as in 1 above). Include suitable headings. Note that you cannot assume that the file contains only results for the first 3 weeks of the season. Your program should be able to process a results file with more or fewer results.
3 List all of the data from Results.txt in the Listbox. However, in this case the actual team names should be output (your program will need to get this data from Teams.txt. The data should be formatted so that it is aligned correctly. Include suitable headings.

Trying to fill listboxes from a .txt file, but I only get 1 line. How do I loop the stream reader until the Field(0) changes. I a program that you can store stocks in,such information as name of the stock, price of the stock when you purchased it and so forth.This is stored in a file that is read and can be changed.My button that displays the information is giving me some problems as I have it setup and it will read my original file but when I add files its not going to display the new files.I need a way to make it output to my list box the new files as well as the old ones.right now my listbox outputs 5 lines, and each line has 5 records now the amount of records per line will not change but the number of lines I have will.I cannot pre write lines for something that has not happened, and I am stumped on how to fix this problem..
I am still learning and new to code so for me to write code that writes other code seems like some fantasy out of the terminator so I am sure there are much much simpler ways to do this than that.I am guessing using a loop and a variable in my array than the actual number something a long the lines of csvData(i)However I am just not seeing what syntax to use and how I would go about putting this together... Never came across anythign like this in the past.[code]any thoughts for ways to attack this problem and the type of syntax that would have to be used?

How do I really use data reader in vb.net. I'm using odbc to connect mysql and vb.net. Function I declared on a module:
Public Function form2search(ByVal drugname As String) As OdbcDataReader

I see a result, but it only loads the first item on the database. I've put this code in the text_changed event. What's the proper way of doing this? And what's wrong with the 2nd code, why is it only loading the first data. As you can see the con is the module where I declared the function. Then I created an object of it in the form.

I have been given the following piece of code which allows a checkbox selection to be made and an associated piece of text be printed in a textbox.
How would i be able to do exactly the same thing but for a listbox?
Also how would i be able to get something to clear from the listbox when then checkbox is unchecked without getting to complicated?

I have 3 listboxes, and 3 checkboxes, and 1 button. I would like to know how do I make it so that whatever listbox is checked. That whatever they selected on the listbox, and when it's checked. They click a button, and it gets added to a Textbox.
How would I accomplish this. I have searched many places, but haven't found anything that has that purpose.

I am using Visual Basic 2008 Express Edition and I am trying to set a listbox so it starts to scroll when it hits the middle point of what is viewable on my list. I also want to set it so the list is always visible so you when you reach the bottom of the list you can scroll down to the bottom but if you scroll back up once it reaches that middle point it will start to scroll up again.

The scenario is:
1)A large 2 dimensional array (400,20)
2)The program needs to access particular chunks(for example (0,20) to (50,20)
3)The program will open multiple files and process each into it's own 2D array (400,20)
What I have right now is code capable of creating the array, but no way to store the array so that I can open a new file and process that data into another large array. Someone mentioned the generics List(of T) might be a good way to store each new array as you could use the Add function. I have done some research on the List(of T) class but I'm not totally convinced that is the way to go. I'm just looking for some direction as I've just started on .net this year.

My problem is that i am trying to use a list box to display all the data from one column in one table of my database. and so, i dont know how to do that although someone hinted at using an array, i'm just not entirely sure how also when the list of data is displayed i aim to have a 'select' button that will take the user to the record of the selected item from the box.

Are there any examples on how to implement a datareader? I have try copying the code from MSDN but;--"Dim reader as SQLDataReader = command. ExecuteReader()"Where it is placed? As a declariton at the beggining of a form? or as as VB resource?and then how those it bind a to a dataGridView? How can I loop through each rows once is bind to use the contents of the column/row?I can perform the above function easly inside of MS Access using VBA. I have gone through various books from WROX but none of them show a clear example or the code is obsolete.

I'm switching over from PHP to vb.net. And some of the concepts are a bit different. Mainly I struggle with concepts and keywords, so it hard to look stuff up. Currently I'm creating a dashboard and needs to run a lot of different sql queries. But I see where I should be able to minimize my code. But things that I have tired don't work.
