I can set the value of a combobox on a form by using ComboBoxName.Text = "SomeText" but how can I do this if the combo box is within a datagridview? When I type DataGridViewComboBox the .text property is not listed. If I try to force it, I get an error.

View 2 RepliesI can't seem to set the selected index or selected value of a DataGridView combobox when loading data from a database. My DGV has two combobox columns which are bound to datatables. The DGV itself is not bound initially. After adding a row, I select a value from each combobox which then populates the rest of the cells in the row. I'm using the EditingControlShowing event to add an eventhandler to catch the SelectedIndexChange of the combo boxes. This all works as needed. My issue comes when populating the DGV with saved data, I need to add the rows and set the selected index and/or selected value of each combo box. I've searched through various forums and articles for the last week with no luck.
I'm using VS2008 sp1, .NET 3.5 sp1 and SQL 2005 sp2 Express.

I have a combobox on a form which has data bound items, the datasource is a dataset called ShiftType that was created using the new data source wizard. The data consists of three columns ID, Name ,Description. Name is the display Member and ID is the value member. This form is called from a different form, a variable containing the shifttypeid is passed as a parameter. I am able to get this parameter across fine.
What I would like to be able to do is, match this parameter with the data in the dataset and find the row index and set that item as the selected item of the combo box. I am confused as to how to proceed with it. Also, I would like to add an extra item to the dataset apart from the items obtained from the database. This represents "NONE", i.e. so if the user doesn't want to choose a shift type they can use the None item. How do i add this without having to add a dummy value in the database.
I have a dialog that containers a DataGridView, this dialog is opened from a parent Form. I would like the DataGridView to have focus as soon as the form is opened, so on pressing the down key would enable you to scroll down through the rows straight away. i have a master detail form with databound datagridviews.my detail datagridview is bound to FKFieldSubFieldLookupTableBindingSource and it shows the linked sub-fields when the main field changes. This datagrid has only one column which is the sub-field names column. this column type is ComboBox.here are this combobox details

No Problem until here.When i click on the Cell combobox I get the list of all the sub-fields. I don't want this. because once a sub-field has been associated with a Master field, it should not be available for other Master fields.What i did was, In the SubFieldLookup Dataset, i added a query to get all those sub-fields which haven't been associated yet.but this clears up the detail datagrid and shows blank comboboxes where it is supposed to have the sub-fields.
I simplly want the master-detail mechanism to work and when i want to add a new sub-field, and click the combobox in sub-fields datagrid, i want to have only those sub-fields which are marked False in database in the column 'alreadyAssociated'.

I have a combo box that i want a user to be able to start typing in a location and then have the valid values that match what the user is typing displayed below.The problem is i have about a 1000 locations that need to go into the AutoCompleteSource, is it possible to save all these locations into a text file and then have the text that is typed into the combo box compared aginst this text file?

Ok, I'm trying to set a value to each item in my combobox, but I don't know how. Lets say I have ComboBox1 that contains the letter A-Z, 26 items, I would want to set each letter a specific number, then use that number for something else. Like, if I set the letter A to equal the number 4, and the user has chosen A in the combo, I could do something like make a Msgbox say that value(4). Does that make sense?

So I am populating a combobox with all the computers time zones and then by default selecting the local time zone. I can populate the combobox but the selecting of the default item has me puzzled.[code]So maybe my lack of understanding this but when i bind the collection to the combobox does it not get filled with TimeZoneInfo objects. In other words isn't each list item of type TimeZoneInfo? If so why doesn't the qdx assignment not work? I get back a -1 which means it couldn't find the timezone object in the combobox but it can find it in the tzCollection. I also experimented with .SelectedItem but that didn't pan out either.I'm just not understanding how this is supposed to work. It works now because I think there is a one-to-one mapping from tzCollection to the cbo items.

The problem I now face is that the 'index' value of the combobox item for each row is in the field specFieldType which is populated into the datagrid.I need to be able to set the value of the ComboBox for each row when the form is opened, and also be able to save the index value of each row selection if any changes are made/saved.
I have added a textbox and a combobox into the form. There are 2 buttons as Add and Remove. Everything works fine here but the problem is after addig/removing (using add/remove button) new items into the combobox, when I close it, the new items added/removed are gone. I need to save the new items added to the combobox during close. I can understand I have to create a Application Setting which will save the new items added to combobox upon closing. But I don't know which code I need to use? Below are the currently used code of this project.

View 8 RepliesI have a little problem with application setting in VB.net 2008. I want to switch main server and backup server connection string with combobox. [Code] It did change the Application Setting connection string in the main form when combobox1 was changed. But the problem comes, when child form was called. On the child form there is DataGridView with Dataset using application connection string. Even the Backupserver was selected on the main form, child form dataset connection string doesn't change. I don't know how to pass the current connection string to child form dataset although it is set to use application setting.
View 6 RepliesI have a tab control application, each tab loads a particular user control and each of those user controls will then add other user controls that are used amongst other the user controls. For example, I have an "ucQuotes" page and an "ucInventory" page, when the specific tab is selected, the "uc****" user control is loaded on that page, and in the case of "ucQuotes" and "ucInventory" they both use a control called "ucPartNumber"; a user control consisting of a combobox, textbox, and button. I have no issues reusing the shared user controls, in this case. My problem arises with my "ucQuickPrice" control, as it is always present at the bottom of the tab control form (separate from the tabcontrol, but on the same form), and it too uses ucPartnumber.
Here's my issue, as I type into the ucPartnumber combobox, the text I type does not appear in the combobox, it appears in the textbox of the ucPartnumber control that is being used on the tabcontrol page. There are no shared instances of ucPartNumber, nor do I have this issue between typing on one tab page and the text showing on the user control of another tab page.I tried just creating the ucPartNumber controls on the ucQuickPrice control, not adding a new instance of ucPartnumber on the .Load event, and the issue persists.
The combobox(s) in question are bound programmatically with about 40,000 items, ".datasource = dataset.tablename" not to a bindingsource. Autocomplete is set to none, I added code to utilize tool tips and the basic combobox filtering functionality. Is this a bug, or is there something I'm neglecting? I'm about 95% complete with this application, and this just happened today. I made the decision, to just reuse the ucPartNumber control on the ucQuickPrice control (originallly it's size and orientation would not fit, but I added some coding to detect what parent is adding ucPartNumber and to change its appearance accordingly). Before, I made this change, I did not have this problem. And, in trying to go back to how I had things set up before the change, the problem will not go away. if the whole control within a control verbage I used is a bit confusing, let me know and I'll try to better explain what is happening. At this point, I'm going to close and reopen vbexpress, as when I started this ordeal, vb started acting weird and wanted me to save all my work, it usually does this before locking up.

I am writing an program with multiple tabs. I have a class that reads a database and offers that data and other calculated data as a collection (the class is cEngines containing engine rows). I have another class which is a row (item from the list) of the collection (the class is RowData which is an engine). One of the tabs in the program contains a datagridview which is bound to the cEngines class and another tab contains controls bound to the RowData class. Both tabs have a mechanism for selecting/changing the RowData so that both tabs are syncronised. All of this works.
The RowData class has validation - both simple value checking, or more complicated checking based on other items in the class. A validation failure raises an event.
