Setting Selected Index On DataGridView Combobox?

I can't seem to set the selected index or selected value of a DataGridView combobox when loading data from a database. My DGV has two combobox columns which are bound to datatables. The DGV itself is not bound initially. After adding a row, I select a value from each combobox which then populates the rest of the cells in the row. I'm using the EditingControlShowing event to add an eventhandler to catch the SelectedIndexChange of the combo boxes. This all works as needed. My issue comes when populating the DGV with saved data, I need to add the rows and set the selected index and/or selected value of each combo box. I've searched through various forums and articles for the last week with no luck.
I'm using VS2008 sp1, .NET 3.5 sp1 and SQL 2005 sp2 Express.

im having a problem regard combobox selected index.the combobox wont change its index when i type a text that is the same with one of the items and pressing tab. when i check its selected index its -1. ill give an example to make it simple..combobox items = AB, AC, AD i entered "AB" by simply typing it not by selecting in the dropdown.its index is -1, how can i make the index the same with the items in the drop down?

I have set the combo box to select the 1st record in the list however, when the next Statement that is "gBox.Visible=True" is executed, the Combo Box is again set to -1 position. Why is it?

Later in my code, I need to do a certain event depending on what is selected. To do this I thought about comparing what the index of the selected combo box item is, because integer comparison is faster than strings, right?

Let me try to describe my problems in the simplest way: I have combobox1 and combobox2. I hope to achieve two things: Combox1 is bound to list1 (a list of string). When a user selects an item in list1, list2 (a list of string) will be obtained from database and combobox is bound to list2.If user specifies text1 in combobox1 and text2 in combobox2, then these two values will be shown in the comboboxes regardless of the bound lists.

So the results of above code is that goal 1 is achieved, but goal 2 is never achieved. combobox1.selected index is always 0 and combobox2.selected index is always 0 too.

I have a combobox on a form which has data bound items, the datasource is a dataset called ShiftType that was created using the new data source wizard. The data consists of three columns ID, Name ,Description. Name is the display Member and ID is the value member. This form is called from a different form, a variable containing the shifttypeid is passed as a parameter. I am able to get this parameter across fine.
What I would like to be able to do is, match this parameter with the data in the dataset and find the row index and set that item as the selected item of the combo box. I am confused as to how to proceed with it. Also, I would like to add an extra item to the dataset apart from the items obtained from the database. This represents "NONE", i.e. so if the user doesn't want to choose a shift type they can use the None item. How do i add this without having to add a dummy value in the database.

I have a DataGridView containing a large number of columns. I want the users to be able to select multiple columns and then select a menu item to hide the selected columns. For example a user might selected columns 5 through 10 and I want the program to hide those columns. I know how to hide columns, one at a time. I can get the count of selected columns but I have not figured out how to get the index to the left-most selected column. Trial and error is such a slow process.
Considering the huge number of options offered by the DataGridView tool, it would be nice if this forum had a special category for the DataGridView (common to VB and C#).
Finally I got the desired results but it took a lot of coding, looping through the selected cells to find the one with the lowest column index, then a second loop to count previously-hidden columns, then a third loop for hiding the selected columns, stepping past previously-hidden columns and declining to hide frozen columns.

I can set the value of a combobox on a form by using ComboBoxName.Text = "SomeText" but how can I do this if the combo box is within a datagridview? When I type DataGridViewComboBox the .text property is not listed. If I try to force it, I get an error.

I'm loopiing through a datagridview and I want to get the selected value in a combobox, not the bound column's value. (I'm putting the contents of the dgv on a Word document.)

I am using vb.net 2010 and winforms and DataGridView. The DataGridView has a DataGridViewComboBox column. When I show the form with the DGV it shows this and empty grid but the column that contains the ComboBox shows the first item on the dropdown list. How can I have the ComboBox display nothing until it is clicked on and selected?
