Decimal To Alphanumeric Number Base Converter Library In Program?
Mar 16, 2012
I'm looking for a decimal to alphanumeric number base converter library in Visual Basic that does not use recursion. [url]...
which includes a demo app but discovered that it uses recursion. The problem with it using recursion became apparent when I attempted to integrate the library into my own Visual Studio Express 2010 Visual Basic project: I got a stack overflow exception.
Now I could consider increasing the size memory allocated for the stack but it might be hard to determine what this would be, given that the recursion depth might vary depending on the value to be converted.

Module Module1
Dim Bf, Bt, Lgt, Total, Pwr, Valu, Val2 As Integer
Dim InNum, Temp, OutNum As String
[code]....
I, will just explain a few areas of this to ease the process of understanding it:
1-The conversion Subs are to be used for values such as A7 in Hexadecimal
2-The Err Boolean will hopefully be used to link back to the top in the event of an error
3-Apollogies for the abreviated variable names, it simplifies things in my mind but winds my fellow students and teacher up no end.
This code is not fully functional yet, however I believe it should give an answer for my test value of 800 Base 10 to Base 8 (1440), however when the program runs in debug mode I can enter the three inputs but then it leaves two lines and gives an unresponsive flashing cursor.

Relating to another question I asked yesterday with regards to logging I was introduced to TraceListeners which I'd never come across before and sorely wish I had. I can't count the amount of times I've written loggers needlessly to do this and nobody had ever pointed this out or asked my why I didn't use the built in tools. This leads me to wonder what other features I've overlooked and written into my applications needlessly because of features of .NET that I'm unaware of.
Does anyone else have features of .NET that would've completely changed the way they wrote applications or components of their applications had they only known that .NET already had a built in means of supporting it?
It would be handy if other developers posted scenarios where they frequently come across components or blocks of code that are completely needless in hindsight had the original developer only known of a built in .NET component - such as the TraceListeners that I previously noted.
This doesn't necessarily include newly added features of 3.5 per se, but could if pertinent to the scenario.
Edit - As per previous comments, I'm not really interested in the "Hidden Features" of the language which I agree have been documented before - I'm looking for often overlooked framework components that through my own (or the original developer's) ignorance have written/rewritten their own components/classes/methods needlessly.

I've got a custom NumericEditor control that has a nullable Decimal property called Value. When I bind a data field to Value, I'd like to retrieve the underlying Type of the data that's bound, so that I can restrict the use of decimal places if the source field is an integral data type.I figure I'd have to do this in the BindingContextChanged event, but how do I get the Type of the data field from the binding itself? My Google-Fu is failing me at the moment.
In short, I'm looking for something like the GetValueType method mentioned in the following question: Simple databinding - How to handle bound field/property change. Winforms, .Net I imagine this method would also be handy if the Value property was an Object.

I need to write the PSEUDOCODE for the following scenario, but i got no idea about how to convert a hexadecimal number to a decimal number..You are required to input a two digit hexadecimal number eg. 3f (digits can be entered separately) and calculate the equivalent decimal number. (note the decimal number will be between 0 and 255) . output the decimal number

I have been using this code for a long time now and it has always been accurate. I recently tried to convert a large string from one base to another and some weird stuff happens.
When I convert from base 36 to base 10, the result is accurate. When I convert the result back to base 36, it becomes inaccurate.

How can I only add the decimal part of a number to another one?
example: if a number is A = 10.25
Then X = 30
Y = X + 0.25 (Here it added 0.25 which the decimal only NOT 10.25)
Another example, If X = 16.35, A = 102.001
Y = 16.351

I am attempting to take the decimal places of a given input, round it so there are only two decimal places, then change it to a whole number. So far I have been able to remove the integer part of the number, leaving only the decimal, but the other procedures are eluding me. Here's what I have so far: (VB 2008)
Private Function DecimalNumber(ByVal number As Double) As Double
Dim Input As Double
Dim SubtractNumber As Decimal
[Code]....
That code returns the decimal part of the input just fine, and I thought maybe multiplying it by 10 would work....but obviously you run into problems when there is more than one decimal place.

I have class representing a unit of measure with a Decimal as the numeric. Just to simplify things for this example, let's say I'm representing centimeters. I'd like to implement a ToString() method for this class. The thing is, if the numeric value is a whole number I'd like to just display the decimal as an integer. Otherwise, I'd like to keep it as a decimal. So, for example, 10.5D centimeters would display as "10.5cm", but 7.0D centimeters should display as "7cm". I'd like this to be fast and simple to read. I have a working solution, but it seems like there should be a better way.Here's a contrived example showing my first crack at it:
Public Property Units As String = "cm"
Public Property NumericValue As Decimal = 10.5D
Public Overrides Function ToString()
[code].....
