View 2 RepliesNeed to design a program that can encrypt and decrypt messages stored in simple text files using a private key stored in a separate file. Software should also be able to allow the users to enter simple messages that either displays the encrypted or decrypted message. The encryption method should use a simple substitution method. It should be set out in the following format:
Example (the "@" is the separator):
@
The character The Code End of line
A @ 4gh EOL
B @ 84!9 EOL
Has to use the 256 ASCII character codes. The separator will be used to separate the character and its corresponding code.Here are the pseudocodes I have come up with:
 Read any private key file
separator = readline(file);
while not EOF(file) do
tempStr = readline(file);

I've noticed that when I save a newly scripted program and attempt to open it after I close Visual Studio 2008, it no longer shows the layout/design of the program...how would I go about configuring it so it looks the same as before I closed visual studio?

View 4 RepliesI intend to choose developing a Web Content Management System using asp.net with VB.net 2008 but I'm not sure about how long it takes to program such system. Is 4 months enough for developing such system? This 4 months is the duration of this semester and Includes about two months for analysis and design and the rest is left for implementation.
View 2 RepliesWe have two systems, one is created in VB.Net 2003 and the other is created in VB6. Both systems are client/server desktop application system. There is a requirement that we need to send and response data to each systems. The data will come as result of process of each system and then transfer it to the other system. These is formatted in a message format. Is it likely to become socket programming? how can I send and response data between servers?
View 1 RepliesI'm supposed to design this program in ConsoleApplication about Phone Numbers:
You are writing a program and you need to store telephone numbers. You'd like to be user-friendly, and let the users enter their telephone number in whatever format they like with parentheses and dashes, so long as they enter 10 digits. Assume that they won't enter any other characters. The user will only enter ( ) - spaces and numbers.So, these would all be valid inputs

I have opened an existing project and made changes in the design mode. (For example, I added a new button.) But when I tested the program using Start Debugger, none of my changes showed up.
View 1 RepliesI'm trying to hone up on my (beginner) coding skills & I would prefer that the the 'Designer coding window', not the 'Design window', wouldn't interfere with these studies. Sometimes it's there & sometimes it's not. I don't understand it at this point & would prefer it wasn't there. All I need is the 'Design window' & the 'regular coding window'.
View 2 RepliesOkay, that's not a big deal... I'll implement FileStreams and read bytes performing operations on them. The problem is that if I do this, the program will hang until the hashes have all been calculated. I want the program to show the hashes calculated so far and a progress bar. I know I need to implement this using threads and interrupts, but how, P.S. Any example code, simply for showing the progress of any operation, and involving a thread,
View 1 RepliesThis always happens to me in Visual Basic. Whenever I save a project from one day and open it again using that same VB version the next day, I can never see the form design. But if I click on Debug, I can see the Form design and only use it as if it were a program.

I have created my webpage in asp.net in 1024*768 resolution, my problem was that when i change my monitor resolution then the controls in my webpage will be displayed in unmanaged manner .
How to arrange items in my webpage which support multiple resolution ...
Whatever the resolution of my monitor the controls in my webpage will display as it is as managed in 1024*768 reolution !
I've got a VB.Net form application that dynamically loads user controls based on which navigation link the user clicks on. I'd like to make it easier to use at Design time by putting a link of some sort to open the User Control at design time. The link would go onto the form in the space where the User Control will be going. This just saves a little time from having to browse through the files to open the correct file.
View 2 RepliesI seem to have reached a limit on the size of the form. I cannot make the form longer and I need to add more fields. Is there a limit on how many fields can be included in a form?
View 1 RepliesI searched codeplex and google. I have found so many such as tustena but unfortunately they are not domain driven based and in these solutions I could not find a good modelling documents or references. i am a newbie in CRM but I am sensetive to design it with solid object-oriented fundamentals. Any reference or open source solution especifically for CRM design and implementaion in .NET? Cheers
View 1 RepliesI have a text file with 3 columns.col 1 has 8-9 digit numbers which are unique. I want to design a utility which loads the text file in memory.The utility should run in the background while the user enters data in some other app. and whenever that 8-9 digit (from text file)number is pressed by the user a the data from other two columns is displayed at the screen or alert the user in some way. Is there a way to do this things in excel 2003?
View 1 RepliesI am creating a UserControl with rich design-time support that should eventually look like the Options window in Visual Studio (or many other applications). Basically a split container, to the left is a TreeView with 'option categories', and each node in the treeview corresponds to a 'panel' to the right with certain options.
Just for terminology, the nodes in the TreeView are OptionsNode objects, the panels (containing the controls that determine the options) are OptionsPanel controls. My UserControl itself is called OptionsView and is the control that contains the treeview as well as a panel that contains the OptionsPanels.
I have some experience in design-time coding, and I have gotten pretty far. The OptionsView control contains a property Panels that returns the ControlCollection of the right side of the split container. The user can add/remove OptionsPanels via this property (and automatically an OptionsNode is created). The property uses a custom CollectionEditor that tells the designer to create instances of type OptionsPanel (instead of just Control which is the usual collection type of ControlCollection). Furthermore, in the CreateInstance method I use the DesignerHost object and its CreateComponent method to create the panels, instead of just creating New OptionsPanel objects. This way the OptionsPanel created is selectable and editable (via property grid) during design-time:
vb.net
Protected Overrides Function CreateInstance(ByVal itemType As System.Type) As Object
If itemType Is GetType(OptionsPanel) Then

i have created my own custom propertythe property is of type collection ,it displays a form which allow the user to add a list of images and strings,it stores the data in a collection ,my problem is , i have noticed that after adding items to the collection at design time , there is no code generated in the .Designer file of the form and there for when i close the for / save it and reload it , all the items that i added to my custom property are gone.my question , what did i miss here ? how do i make my custom property generate code at the .designer file for the items i have added to my property?
View 1 RepliesReading a .txt file in VB.net. My file path is C:UsersMyLilMulePepeDocumentsVisual Studio 2008Projectscurtain_calls.txt.
This is my line of Dim LoanOptionsFile As String = "C:UsersMyLilMulePepeDocumentsVisual Studio 2008Projectscurtain_calls.txt"
I can read the file when I run the program, but how do I write the file path so that someone else can download my program and file and read the file on their system?
I've been working on a program that generates a batch file, then when you press a button, it executes that batch file. There are multiple batch files attached to each item in the list box.
[code]...
The only thing that it does when I press the button, is starts the batch file, then goes to function searchtitle, which executes the batch file again when it finds out it didn't work properly.The button text doesn't change, none of the items are being added to my first list box, and I can't do anything to the window after pressing the button. It constantly opens the batch file every 5 seconds or so.
Anyway, I'm a teacher and am writing a program that simply shows kids a word on a flashcard. There are 2 buttons, 1 to read the word and 1 to go to a new work. There are going to be 300 words. Really I'm just testing it right here. What I want to know is should I be inputting all the words right into the code like I did with "hi" and "not 1" (Don't ask. those are just the 2 random words I picked to test this out with). OR is there a better way (maybe somehow to type all the words on a text file and have the program randomly pull one of them (I don't know how to do this).
Here is the code so far:
Public Class Form1
Dim word
Private Sub Button1_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button1.Click

I have a program where a lot of the required information for it is stored in text files. I simply read this information into large arrays. However, I don't think it's necessary to load all the information each time. Rather, it would be more efficient if I could simply search through a list of items to find the one I need and then use the data from it, or to find a similar name and use it elsewhere.
Would I be right in using a database? And is database programming done in SQL? I have a book on it telling me to use the SQL Server (IIRC), so I shouldn't be doing it in the VB.NET Express GUI?
Here's an example of what I would do:
Hex = 03 00 => dex number 003
Search in file Pokemon Dex Numbers
003 returns Bulbasaur
Check Bulbasaur base stats in the base stats file
etc
So basically I'm reusing a lot of information. I think a database would be best and it would all be internal right? I'm getting complaints about access denied to a text file (since it's stored in the program directory in the program files).
So to cap up the few questions I have:
-Databases are done in SQL and not inside the GUI?
-Databases would load internally?
-I could search a database without having to load it into like an array or something?
How do I make a program that opens a file in the folder the program is stored?
View 6 RepliesI am writing a backup program that zips files. Using some sample code I have the following that creates a zip file. Problem is it does not get any subdirectories or files. Where am i going wrong?
Dim azFileNames() As String = Directory.GetFiles(SourceFolder)
Dim objCrc32 As New Crc32()
Dim zipStream As ZipOutputStream
[CODE]...
Alternativley, there is another component to the zipping dll that I could probably bypass the above altogether. It is: FZ.CreateZip(DestFile, SourceFolder, True, "", "") Where DestFile is (Output stream as system.io.stream). I'm trying to read all the files, directories, sub dir and files, etc from a specific location, let's say 'My Documents' into Destfile in which the FZ.CreateZip zips the file. FZ is FastZip which is from icsharpcode.net. They have c# examples, but that's greek to me. I'm trying to just learn VB!
I am writing a Windows Form program to automatically download and store generated PDF reports from a web site using the WebBrowser Control. The web site uses Ajax to link an icon back to the source aspx file which then returns a PDF file.
The problem I have is that the WebBrowser control brings up the File Save As dialog box when the PDF file is returned and I can find no way of handling this to cature and save the returned file. I have found other examples of how to manage this using the Navagating event to validate the extension of the file that is being accessed (e.g. [URL] and, if not an HTM, file then use the HTTP Web control to directly download the file. Unfortunately this will not work as the call references a .aspx page.
I am trying to code a delete button for a browsing program based on data from a txt file. I have coded the buttons to sort(ascending and descending), append to the text file, search the text file, but I can not seem to get the delete function working. I am using VB 2010, this is what I have so far:
Code:
Dim deleline As String
Dim line As String
Dim isFound As Boolean = False
sr4 = IO.File.OpenText("Students.txt")
