I want to develop a translator (e.g. German to English ) with a separate database. What is the best way to do this? The database must be able to record words and phrases with their meaning. The database capacity must be at least 2,000,000 and phrases. Also, what is the best data structure for fastest retrieval of the information.

I'm in the middle of developing a prototype that will connect to the database. The problem I'm having is that I'm seeing more than one ways of retrieving data from the database either by adding databindings or just use a loop to loop through each rows to get a column or two.
I'll try to put this clearer because I'm not sure what I'm asking myself. I have no idea what approach to take. The purpose for the application is to retrieve as well as add, update, and delete data from that database. I wanted to display the retrieved data onto any controls like a textbox and such.
Right now, I'm confused to figure out what's the best way to program: by bindings or just retrievals. Any suggestions?
I am developing an access database that will be shared with multiple users.I don't want the users to access the database directly so I will have them enter new data on a data access page. The data access page is stored on a Microsoft Share Point web page, and the database is stored on a network drive.Here is my problem: When new data is entered on the web page I need it to trigger a WillChangeRecordset event; however, I have not been successful because the web page does not declare a new instance of a recordset object.At a minimum I need the new data to be processed before the web page appends the new data to the table.
View 3 Repliesi 'm develloping an application that uses a sql server database, in my computer where i'm programming i installed the sql server in the same language of the OS, in the tests of the application everything worked fine. Biut after migrating the db to the main server, the values went crazy.. After some research and tests, i saw that the language of the sql server was in english and that was the problem.
My language settings says that the decimal separator is "," and the agrupment digit it's ".", and the sql server works in the other way "." is the decimal separator and the "," it's the agrupment digit. In my code i was using the CDEC to pass the values to the DB, to solve this i removed the cdec and send the parameter as a string (So if i send 2,33 to DB with CDEC i get 233 if i send the 2,33 string i get 2.33). This works for now, but i don't know if in the future i'll have problems...
I am developing a chat application using online connection to a mysql databbase. But i am facing a problem. After 10 minutes, MySQL closes all the chat connections because of the 600 seconds timeout (has been set by the host service i am using). I don't understand why is that happening cause every piece of my code which needs data from the database opens and closes the connection (i mean that it dosn't maintain the connection after the query's execution). If i .close() and .dispose() the connection, it still appears in mysql at sleep mode (it terminates only if i exit the program).

Iam developing a Windows application using Visual Basic 2008 with a SQL Server database. Throughout the program I give the user as many options as possible and have no problem with either the database or the windows forms. The program does not initially require a Login and I want toprovide the User with the opportunity to add a Login to the system. The default Login form is perfectly satisfactory.
The problem is that I can't figure out how to program the change sothat the Login from isopens the program rather then th form designated as the StartUp form. this forum I am able to prgrammatically change the form but I can't figure out how to make the requirement a permanent factor. I tried using a Constant, but if the User wants to change, you can't change the constant. Its an apparantly simple yes/no situation but if I set a varable to yes and then change it to no the next time the program runs, the change will be lost.
i could write some code in a different file so that i could call it later...like in php you just include the file....my problem is that it is a database program i would like to separate the connection function or not a function(like public)so that i can call it to make my code readable...

The first 3 digits in parenthesis are the ISD code, the next three are the area code and the last four are the local number. I need to separate out these three fields of the phone number and display in three separate text boxes labeled appropriately. Now, suppose the user enters the phone number in a text box as a continuous string of 10 digits, where the first three represent the ISD code, the next three represent the area code and the last four represent the local number. I have a TabControl object on my form with many tabs created in code (TabPages) and my problem is that the same objects that are in the initial TabPage needs to be in the other TabPages created in code, I have this done in code when the user clicks the 'New Tab' menu option, however the same code is used for any new tabs created. The problem created here is that I have an event against one of the objects that appear in the other TabPages, but because the same code is used to create any new tab pages, the event will only work on the newest tab page, if that makes sense? By the way these objects that appear on the other TabPages are properties at the top so events can be handled against them in the respective subroutine.

I'll get straight to my problem - I'm currently coding in Visual Studio.I have a table (countries) with the columns ID | Name. The table is filled with around 28 records.I also have a form with 4 combo boxes (set up as 1,2,3 & 4) that I want the user to select. These combo boxes will display the names from the table countries. I then want to use the selected names in the combo boxes to Insert into their corresponding ID into another table. For example England would have the ID 1, USA the ID 2 etc.So, is it possible to have separate combo boxes that will give separate ID values but using the same table? At the moment I can't seem to find a solution.Eventually the form will have more than 4 combo boxes so I don't want to use separate bindingsources for each combo box.

I'm a bit puzzled here. I did a form containing a simple datagridview containing data from an MDB file. The connection was alltogether done by Visual Studios wizard so alot of stuff was created automatically. Then I databinded the textboxes to each column in the database and managed to update the database via my own command buttons such as "Update" with this code:

Trying to create a Rudimentary Translator for class. I have to have english words that equal to the german or french equivalents. The words must be stored in a text file and read into a structure with a member for each language. The program would request an English sentence as input and translate it into German or French. Assume all punctuation would be a peroid a the end of the sentence.

Write a program that sorts arrays according to the English words. The program should then request an English sentence as input from the keyboard and translate it into French and German. For example, if the English sentence given is MY PENCIL IS ON THE TABLE, the French translation will be MON CRAYON EST SUR LA TABLE, and the German translation will be MEIN BLEISTIFT IST AUF DEM TISCH.

In microsoft Word the User can change the dictionary terms of the word or insert a word to make the (little red line) beneath a misspelt word go away. In my translator program. I have a databank of words that are inside a strArray. The strArray is read as EnglishWord[SpanishDefinition] and SpanishWord[EnglishDefinition] inside the DataBank. I want the user to be able to insert a word with it's definition if the databank does not have the word or the definition...
