Developing An Access Database That Will Be Shared With Multiple Users?

Aug 22, 2008

I am developing an access database that will be shared with multiple users.I don't want the users to access the database directly so I will have them enter new data on a data access page. The data access page is stored on a Microsoft Share Point web page, and the database is stored on a network drive. Here is my problem: When new data is entered on the web page I need it to trigger a WillChangeRecordset event; however, I have not been successful because the web page does not declare a new instance of a recordset object. At a minimum I need the new data to be processed before the web page appends the new data to the table.

Possible To Have An Access Back-end Database Available For Multiple Users On The Same Network?

Nov 5, 2011

I am developing a Visual Basic .NET application to be used by the staff of a small training centre nearby. The front-end (UI, menus, etc.) will all be in VB .NET, and there will be a back-end database for storing all of the required data, such as student records and meeting information. What I would like to know is if it's possible to use a Microsoft Access database for this purpose, and have it accessible by all the staff in the centre (on the same network) at the same time. For example, would I be able to put the database in a shared network folder, and have a copy of the VB application on each PC that would all be able to read/edit/add to the database?

My question is whether the variable UserNumber can be accessed or changed by any other user than the current one?

Access 2003 Network With Multiple Users

I know my Question was asked maybe 10000 times before, but i really did not take the chance to search the forum coz i really short of time.
I have *.mdb DataBase with 20 tables each table have more than 10 fields, i'm trying to automate the MDB file from a network like that 5 PCS + One vb.net exe program (5 users) working on the same time on the exe that is connected to the database , my questions are :

1) How much risk is it to put the database into one (shared) folder and connect it to the program ?

2) What is the best way to establish this method ?

3) Is there any alternatives ?

Middle Of Developing A Prototype That Will Connect To The Database?

Mar 30, 2010

I'm in the middle of developing a prototype that will connect to the database. The problem I'm having is that I'm seeing more than one ways of retrieving data from the database either by adding databindings or just use a loop to loop through each rows to get a column or two.

I'll try to put this clearer because I'm not sure what I'm asking myself. I have no idea what approach to take. The purpose for the application is to retrieve as well as add, update, and delete data from that database. I wanted to display the retrieved data onto any controls like a textbox and such.

Right now, I'm confused to figure out what's the best way to program: by bindings or just retrievals. Any suggestions?

VS 2008 Language - Developing An Application That Uses A Sql Server Database

Apr 13, 2009

i 'm develloping an application that uses a sql server database, in my computer where i'm programming i installed the sql server in the same language of the OS, in the tests of the application everything worked fine. Biut after migrating the db to the main server, the values went crazy.. After some research and tests, i saw that the language of the sql server was in english and that was the problem.

My language settings says that the decimal separator is "," and the agrupment digit it's ".", and the sql server works in the other way "." is the decimal separator and the "," it's the agrupment digit. In my code i was using the CDEC to pass the values to the DB, to solve this i removed the cdec and send the parameter as a string (So if i send 2,33 to DB with CDEC i get 233 if i send the 2,33 string i get 2.33). This works for now, but i don't know if in the future i'll have problems...

VS 2008 Shared Sub And Multiple Threads?

Sep 4, 2010

I have a created a class, which contains a sub routine. This sub routine, should ideally be accessable by objects which are not members of the class, so I would like to make the sub, a 'shared sub' (call it Sub1).

Question: I am using many threads and there will be possibly 100s of 1000s of threads all wanting to use Sub1 (which is at present, is not shared). At present Sub1 , is not a shared sub, so every time a thread wishes to use Sub1 , I am creating a (dummy) instance of the class and then applying Sub1, to that instance.

My program works flawlessly using the above technique.Question: If I were to turn Sub1 (which is not currently shared) into a shared sub, and directly had various threads calling Sub1, would there be any issues with locking, ie. would it possible for 2 threads to enter that thread and start overwriting variables, which another thread has written to?

NOTE: there are no shared variables/properties in Sub1 and all variables used in Sub1 are declared within the sub itself.

VS 2010 Developing A Chat Application Using Online Connection To A Mysql Database?

Mar 4, 2012

I am developing a chat application using online connection to a mysql databbase. But i am facing a problem. After 10 minutes, MySQL closes all the chat connections because of the 600 seconds timeout (has been set by the host service i am using). I don't understand why is that happening cause every piece of my code which needs data from the database opens and closes the connection (i mean that it dosn't maintain the connection after the query's execution). If i .close() and .dispose() the connection, it still appears in mysql at sleep mode (it terminates only if i exit the program).

Dim MySQLCon as New MySQLConnection
Dim MySQLCom as New MySQLCom
Dim counter as Short

Updates From Multiple Users?

Jul 9, 2009

I have a program that uses sql for the database. The issue im having is when two users attempt to update the same record then the update from second user overwrites the record from the first user. I believe this problem comes from the the way i attempt to preserve existing text in the fields.

My thought on whats going on is: If the form has fields A and B. Both users start with a blank form. User 1 adds a record with an entry in field A. When user 2 goes to update the record with an entry in form B, the program overwrites user 1s field A entry with the blank field A from user 2.

Is there a way to force it to grab the most recent data before it tries to add/update? I thought about resetting the digit combo box to the same digit which would trigger the change event for that field. but the issue with that is it would also wipe out the current entries on the form.

Below is the change event for the digit combobox, the main submit procedure, and the subprocedure for one of the days.

[code]
Private Sub cboDigit_SelectedIndexChanged(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles cboDigit.SelectedIndexChanged, cboOffice.SelectedIndexChanged, dtEndDate.ValueChanged, dtStartDate.ValueChanged

I want the value of textbox1 to be remembered on any computer, but I need it to be update-able too. I tried using settings to do this like so:

Private Sub Form3_Load(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles MyBase.Load
Me.TextBox1.Text = My.Settings.TextBox1

but the problem in doing this is it only works for the current user. When the application is then put on another computer the value is blank.

Programming Login - Developing A Windows Application Using Visual Basic 2008 With A SQL Server Database

Feb 26, 2011

Iam developing a Windows application using Visual Basic 2008 with a SQL Server database. Throughout the program I give the user as many options as possible and have no problem with either the database or the windows forms. The program does not initially require a Login and I want toprovide the User with the opportunity to add a Login to the system. The default Login form is perfectly satisfactory.

The problem is that I can't figure out how to program the change sothat the Login from isopens the program rather then th form designated as the StartUp form. this forum I am able to prgrammatically change the form but I can't figure out how to make the requirement a permanent factor. I tried using a Constant, but if the User wants to change, you can't change the constant. Its an apparantly simple yes/no situation but if I set a varable to yes and then change it to no the next time the program runs, the change will be lost.
