i could write some code in a different file so that i could call it later...like in php you just include the file....my problem is that it is a database program i would like to separate the connection function or not a function(like public)so that i can call it to make my code readable...
View 2 RepliesI'm trying TCP communication using VB.NET and using the TcpClient method.All is working fine but I'm having trouble keeping my message seperate from each other.For example, my message have an header and footer and can range in size from very small (32 bytes) to quite large (64k). The problem I have is that when messages are being sent quickly they will arrive together. For example, if two 32 byte messages are sent they will arrive as 64 bytes. This is no good as I need to process them seperately.
So my question is:- Is there a way to easily separate my messages using a built in feature of the TcpClient so that the "reading" will give me the correct amount of bytes each time corresponding to the amount of bytes I have sent per message?

when trying to run a function in a separate thread, my reason for trying this is because since the application is only run on one thread, the GUI hangs when the function is called.[code]In this code, the Print screen Button is pressed and the function HookCallBack is called.The problem is that the function has variables that need to be passed and returned, and while searching, i found a website that had an answer for this, and it required the function to be put in a class, and then it could be run on a separate thread while still passing all the variables needed.url...But the code cannot be placed in a class without giving errors and it seems to me like i did something wrong. The code is meant to be used in a form and not a class.My question is, how would i go about running the HookCallBack Function in a Separate thread?

i am using access database for my program. now i have connected to the database in MDI form of main exe, and ir also works, user can log in, it gets verified etc etc etc. now here is the problem, when i load a form from dll and try to use any sql query on that form, i get message, "database connection is not opened". so what i did was, i added the connect() (a function i designed to connect to database) in the load part of the dll's form, it made the trick, query's started to run, everything went fine, and when i reload the form i.e after closing the form, i load it again from MDI form, i get error, connection already open..

The first 3 digits in parenthesis are the ISD code, the next three are the area code and the last four are the local number. I need to separate out these three fields of the phone number and display in three separate text boxes labeled appropriately. Now, suppose the user enters the phone number in a text box as a continuous string of 10 digits, where the first three represent the ISD code, the next three represent the area code and the last four represent the local number. I have a TabControl object on my form with many tabs created in code (TabPages) and my problem is that the same objects that are in the initial TabPage needs to be in the other TabPages created in code, I have this done in code when the user clicks the 'New Tab' menu option, however the same code is used for any new tabs created. The problem created here is that I have an event against one of the objects that appear in the other TabPages, but because the same code is used to create any new tab pages, the event will only work on the newest tab page, if that makes sense? By the way these objects that appear on the other TabPages are properties at the top so events can be handled against them in the respective subroutine.

I'll get straight to my problem - I'm currently coding in Visual Studio.I have a table (countries) with the columns ID | Name. The table is filled with around 28 records.I also have a form with 4 combo boxes (set up as 1,2,3 & 4) that I want the user to select. These combo boxes will display the names from the table countries. I then want to use the selected names in the combo boxes to Insert into their corresponding ID into another table. For example England would have the ID 1, USA the ID 2 etc.So, is it possible to have separate combo boxes that will give separate ID values but using the same table? At the moment I can't seem to find a solution.Eventually the form will have more than 4 combo boxes so I don't want to use separate bindingsources for each combo box.
View 5 RepliesI'm a bit puzzled here. I did a form containing a simple datagridview containing data from an MDB file. The connection was alltogether done by Visual Studios wizard so alot of stuff was created automatically. Then I databinded the textboxes to each column in the database and managed to update the database via my own command buttons such as "Update" with this code:

View 4 RepliesI am trying to copy a table in a database into another database on another connection in VB.NET, using OleDb. If they were on the same connection I would just use SELECT INTO, but they are not. I have two different OleDbConnection and cannot see an easy way to do this.
Right now I am attempting to just copy the database into a DataTable using an OleDbDataAdapter, and then loop through the DataTable and insert every record into the target database one at a time. This obviously takes a ton of time for the large DB I could potentially be dealing with, and I have to deal with escaping strings, null values, etc.
edit - just to make this more clear: I have two OleDbConnection objects, one is linked directly to a local .mdb file on my computer (JET). The other is linked to a database on our servers (SQLOLEDB). I am wanting to do this:
"SELECT * FROM fromDB INTO toDB"
But I can't because fromDB and toDB are on different connections, and the OleDbCommand object is only attached to one. The only way I can see how to do this is to connect to fromDB, copy it into a DataTable, connect to toDB, and copy all of the data in the DataTable row by row into toDB. I was wondering if there is an easier way to do this.

I've tried putting MyBase.ShowDialog() and .Show() and .9000+ other things The only benefit I've got out of using a seperate thread to load from the databse is i can see the screen right away (as oppose to it being a transparent box until it loads) but i cannot move it around or minimize it?is there any way to make it Movable while it loads?

I have a .mdf file that I open through an Open Dialog Box and use in a ConnectionStringBuilder (where I have the user instance set to True). Later, in one of my button clicks, I try to open the connection (connection.Open()). It then gives me an error as follows: "Generating user instances in SQL Server is disabled. I made program which connects sql database via WiFi network. I have timer wich every 10 minutes updates textbox information from database. If Network connection will be lose, i do not whant to get any error and after that lose data wich is in textbox, until sql database connection will not be. How can i check if connection exists and after that update data from database? Something like that:
