Communications :: Keeping Messages Separate On A Connection?
Mar 16, 2011
I'm trying TCP communication using VB.NET and using the TcpClient method. All is working fine but I'm having trouble keeping my message seperate from each other. For example, my message have an header and footer and can range in size from very small (32 bytes) to quite large (64k). The problem I have is that when messages are being sent quickly they will arrive together. For example, if two 32 byte messages are sent they will arrive as 64 bytes. This is no good as I need to process them seperately.
So my question is:- Is there a way to easily separate my messages using a built in feature of the TcpClient so that the "reading" will give me the correct amount of bytes each time corresponding to the amount of bytes I have sent per message?
I want to create SETUP for vb.net window application. My application uses multiple dll.so I want to keep dll in separate folder and exe in separate folder. When I create setup, dll and exe are in same (Application Folder of setup), then it works, but when I create 2 different folder in Application Folder of setup, one for dll and one for exe, then it desn't work. Please suggest how can I ?when I create set up then all goes to applciaton folder. when i installed then all are installed in same folder.but I need all dll goes to sperate and exe goes to sperate folder.
When I code in PHP I usually keep my functions in a separate file functions.php, I am going to write a small function in VB, is it ok to keep all my functions and subs in the 1 file linke in PHP? will they be available in all my form code?
When I create more than one instance of the same form and I call a method on any of these instances, the code only fires on the most recently created instance. Even when I click a button on that form, it executes on the other form. How can I call these and keep them as distinct objects?
For example: if I build Form1 with a public method called ChangeMyColor and a button to call that method. Then in the main app I set MyForm1 = New Form1 and MyForm2 = New Form1, then call MyForm1.ChangeMyColor, the color changes on the second instance. Even if I click that button on the first instance, the color still changes on the second.
I'm in a programming class, and I need to make a game. Is there an easy way I can send messages, like "w" or "down", between 2 computers so I can have a multiplayer game?
I've experimented a bit with async TCP socket messages between two programs, for passing data, numbers and/or text. What I've done is to use a keyword in the start of each message, and then seperate the values with the "|" character. So a message may look like this: "DATA|490|40517.9328222222|1|6|11345|11347|11344|11345|106|40517.8494212963"I set the read buffer size to 1024, as most of the messages will be within that lengthHowever sometimes I may send rapidly many short messages where several together are less than 1024 characters, and it seems then it will be read in one go. And if I send a message longer than 1024 characters, it will be split. So I'm looking for some advice on how to handle this. Should I use some special characters to start and/or end each message?
So I'm playing w/ WCF this week, it's pretty cool... I started with it to try to create a little GUI frontend to a service backend. Anyways I'm just playing with some more advanced things and ordered some books on it, but those are a few days away so I was hoping someone may be able to point me in the right direction for this.
I have an application that connects to an SQL Server, sometimes we have a networkinterruption of min 10secs during the openconnection , I get a General Network Error when I try to carry out any procedure that communicates with the database afterthe interruption. Even when the connection is closed and reopened, I still get General Network Error. The only way to get the application to function again is to close the Application and reopen it, is there any way I can keep the connection alive?
I am trying to create error messages to display on a form. I added a label that is made visible if there is error.Currently if the database name is wrong the error message displays, however if I alter the connection string; example: If I misspell Server, the error label does not display and my application crashes when I try to click a control. How do I detect and display the error label, when there is no connection or a part of the string is misspelled or missing? Is this even possible? [code]
I'm working on an application that communicates to torque controllers on the factor floor. The user inputs an IP address and a port and clicks the btnConnect button to make the initial connection. Once that completes a KeepAlive message must be sent periodically to maintain communication with the torque controller. The initial connection works very well but a socket error (see below) grinds everything to a halt when the KeepAlive message is sent. I would appreiciate any ideas the readers may have on the root cause. I'm quite confused because basically the same code is use for both the initial connection and then the KeepAlive messages. I have pasted some of the code as well below.
Need to design a program that can encrypt and decrypt messages stored in simple text files using a private key stored in a separate file. Software should also be able to allow the users to enter simple messages that either displays the encrypted or decrypted message. The encryption method should use a simple substitution method. It should be set out in the following format:
Example (the "@" is the separator):
@ The character The Code End of line A @ 4gh EOL B @ 84!9 EOL
Has to use the 256 ASCII character codes. The separator will be used to separate the character and its corresponding code. Here are the pseudocodes I have come up with:
 Read any private key file separator = readline(file); while not EOF(file) do tempStr = readline(file);
I would like to know can we use a socket connection on vb to communicate with PC without using GSM modem and SIM card.for example, like sendin a simple text msg to the PC and it will reply back the result back to me the result.
i could write some code in a different file so that i could call it later...like in php you just include the file....my problem is that it is a database program i would like to separate the connection function or not a function(like public)so that i can call it to make my code readable...
I have a simple chat program i have made, it works but with a few errors.
1st if it can't find the physical pc it is trying to connect to it crashes.
2nd if it finds the physical server but not the program (server) running it says "the computer actively refused the connection on IP/Port" and then crashes.
I want to use spy++ or Winspector But from what i Read they Dont work on windows 7 64bit Correct ? Im trying to read WM_COMMAND Messages from a App.And whenever i Select 'Log Messages' And find the windows etc.Nothing show's up. Is there a alternative ?
here I am again I have written a small class called 'Messages' that holds the user messages. The case is that I am not being able to import it. Here it is:
I am using VB2008 Express and am curious how to send a command via RS232 communications. The string that I need to send is 02h PON 03h. The start and end bits are 02h and 03h.
How can I convert 02h and 03h to its ascii form. In hyperterminal, I use the sequence {(hold)ALT 0 0 2} on the number pad to send the start bit.
I am using this code currently without the start and end bits
I created a telephone number form where the user enters the telephone number in a text box as (nnn) nnn-nnnn. The first 3 digits in parenthesis are the ISD code, the next three are the area code and the last four are the local number. I need to separate out these three fields of the phone number and display in three separate text boxes labeled appropriately. Now, suppose the user enters the phone number in a text box as a continuous string of 10 digits, where the first three represent the ISD code, the next three represent the area code and the last four represent the local number. I'm lost as how to change this string into the form (nnn) nnn-nnnn. This is what I have
I have a TabControl object on my form with many tabs created in code (TabPages) and my problem is that the same objects that are in the initial TabPage needs to be in the other TabPages created in code, I have this done in code when the user clicks the 'New Tab' menu option, however the same code is used for any new tabs created. The problem created here is that I have an event against one of the objects that appear in the other TabPages, but because the same code is used to create any new tab pages, the event will only work on the newest tab page, if that makes sense? By the way these objects that appear on the other TabPages are properties at the top so events can be handled against them in the respective subroutine.
I'll get straight to my problem - I'm currently coding in Visual Studio.I have a table (countries) with the columns ID | Name. The table is filled with around 28 records.I also have a form with 4 combo boxes (set up as 1,2,3 & 4) that I want the user to select. These combo boxes will display the names from the table countries. I then want to use the selected names in the combo boxes to Insert into their corresponding ID into another table. For example England would have the ID 1, USA the ID 2 etc.So, is it possible to have separate combo boxes that will give separate ID values but using the same table? At the moment I can't seem to find a solution.Eventually the form will have more than 4 combo boxes so I don't want to use separate bindingsources for each combo box.
I have a few forms that have a lot of really intensive updating along with a great deal of user interface (text boxes, button clicking etc) Is it possible to open a separate form as a separate UI thread from the start up form that called it to "show" or open or whatever the new method might be?
How can i get the combo box to keep the value that was partialy keyed in and completed with auto complete.Pressing enter doesn't select the value so when you tab out it keeps the entered auto completed value. The only way to keep the auto complete value is to click on the combo box with the mouse and then tab out of it. I would like some how of being able to tab out of the combo box and it keep the auto completed value that the user has entered so as to save time entering data so no mouse clicks are needed and the data grid view can be tabbed through and all data entered from keyboard.
I have a program that requires login and I have that part working, but I'd like to be able to tell which user has logged in. There's a database with the user info (ID and password) but I'm not sure how I can have the program record which user has logged in.
I have developed a very simple application that disables system keyboard commands (ctrl+alt+del, alt+tab, etc), hides the taskbar, hides the desktop, etc.Upon entering a password the user can 'unlock' these options. This is being used with a restaurant POS system so no accidents can happen. However there seems to be one minor issue:In a separate software package (the POS software), at specific times, any application that is running (my locking application) will get focus and end up on top of the POS software.I want my locking software to remain underneath all running applications. Anyway to keep my locking application from gaining focus? I was thinking of maybe adding some line of code to send my locking application into the background whenever it gets focus..
using Vb net (2005) Wandering if it is possible to use AppSettings in this case: Keeping counts how many time my Win Form app. has run, could someone show me if this can be done
I have a MDIParent form that has a bunch of child forms. When I open a child form, I can actually move the form outside the bounds of the Parent. How can I prevent this? I've set each of the Child Forms "IsMdiContainer" property to "False". What am I missing?
I've been trying to find the answer to keeping an application from allowing "scaling" of controls and forms to the user's settings. I have set the autoscalemode to "none" on one form but it doesn't seem to work. I'm using Visual Studio 2008 Visual Basic. My users are on using either XP or Windows 7. I think we are all using Framework 3.5 but not really sure.
I knew this problem would eventually become an issue but ... Now the problem has become an issue. I have a user that has dual monitors and has the text setting on medium. Now the label controls overlap the input text fields.
