I made a Windows service, and was wondering if it is possible to disable/grayed out the startup type by code. On my system this is the case with the service Remote Procedure Call (RPC). Here it is not possible to change the startup type.
I want to be able to get & change the startup type for a service through a Windows Application (Automatic, Manual, Disabled). Is there a simple way to do this? I didn't see anything using the ServiceController.I found another thread to use a vbscript but rather do it directly through my application.
show a service starup type (auto, disabled, manual). I have tried looking in to the system.seviceprocess.servicestartmode, but all that does is sets the startup type. how to use it to detect the type.
I can hide my startup form (or make it appear hidden) on startup. I can start my app on windows startup--through registry values--if the user checks a checkbox.
But if the app starts up on windows startup, I want the form to be hidden, so the program can just keep working without bothering anyone. If it starts up because the user started it, I want the form to be showing, because the user probably wants to change some settings or something.
I have an app that allows the user to choose an image, at design time, either as a straight image, or from an image list.
All cool so far, except that this is not happening from the visual studio property browser, its happening from a property grid that is a part of a type editor.
My problem is, both the image picker (actually resource picker), and the imagelist type converter rely on some design-time services to get the job done. In the case of imagelist, its the IReferenceService and in the case of the resource picker its a service called _DTE.
In the first instance of an edit from the visual studio property browser, I could get a reference to these services but (1) how can I add them to the type descriptor context of my property grid?
It would be better, for future proofing, if I could just copy a reference to all of the services in the type descriptor context. (2) Where does the property browser get these services from in the first place?
ETA: I still don't know how to do it, but I now know it is possible.
(1) Sub-class control and add a property whose type is an array of buttons.
(2) Add it to a form.
(3) Select the new control on the design service and edit the new property in the property browser.
(4) The collection editor dialog pops-up
(5) Add a button
(6) Edit image and image list - the type editor and type converter, respectively, behave as they should.
ETA2: Ok, I'm getting warm. It looks like you do it through the Site property of the property grid. I can create a new site, and pass it the type descriptor context I have a reference to and then it should have all the service. I'll give it a go ...
I am creating an XML web service that passes an array of custom types. In my consuming code I am referencing the code as a web reference which I have given the namespace MYWS. Now in code I am trying to assign the results of my web service call to an array of my type like so..[code]When I do this the complier complains, saying: "Value of 1 dimensional array of my.namespace.MyClass cannot be converted to 1 dimensional array of my. namespace. MYWS.MyClass because my.namespace.MYSW.MyClass is not derived from my.namespace.MyClass"Now I understand the message, the thing is they are the same class. The class is declared in my calling code by the web service references a dll from that project. How do I tell the compiler that these are the same type?
I am getting the following error:Unable to cast COM object of type 'TESTSERVERLib.TestClass' to interface type 'TESTSERVERLib.ITest'. This operation failed because the QueryInterface call on the COM component for the interface with IID '{DAFB7D76-0158-452F-8FD0-FF97A683DEA3}' failed due to the following error: No such interface supported (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80004002 (E_NOINTERFACE)).Object reference not set to an instance of an object.Whereas the same code works from an VB .Net Forms application. Can anyone explain why this code does'nt work in a VB .NET windows service.
i have a Windows service that is hosting a WCF service through net.tcp and this is working great. I have also created a WCF service application. I am trying to add the net.tcp service reference to the service application. Then I add it to the GAC that goes ok but if I try to RegAsm the WCF service application to allow it to be called from Server.CreateObject I get the error:
Warning: Type library exporter encountered a type that derives from a generic class and is not marked as [ClassInterface(ClassInterfaceType.None)]. Class interfaces cannot be exposed for such types. Consider marking the type with [ClassInterface(ClassInterfaceType.None)] and exposing an explicit interface as the default interface to COM using the ComDefaultInterface attribute.
It does not work. I have tried to call it through a class library but this does not work either as the end point is not set correctly.
I am confused what will happen, when I disable a timer. Will it finish the process and then disable or will it immediately disable without completing process? for example
[Code]....
I want to run getMessage from somewhere else, so I need to disable timer during that time to be asured not to override anything and also before timer disable it should complete that function code.
i deleted my previous start up form to be replaced by another one but each time i launch the application, the deleted start up form is still displayed.i dont know from where this deleted start up form is being loaded.
I have a VB2008 application which can control a windows service i.e. start, stop, pause etc. This runs ok on a Windows XP machine but not on a Win 7 machine (message is - Service error cannot open <service name> service on computer '.') ( if I stop the UAC then it runs ok ). It seems to be a rights issue,
I got this warning that I don't know what it means.Warning1 The service System.ComponentModel.Design.IInheritanceService already exists in the service container.Parameter name: serviceType00
I am trying to communicate with a Windows service on a remote machine on the network but i keep getting an exception saying the following: "System.InvalidOperationException: Cannot open Service Control Manager on computer 'machine001'. This operation might require other priviledges. ---> System.ComponentModel.Win32Exception: Access is denied.
Is it possible to have a dotnet windows service which monitor other services and upon stop of any service, the monitoring service would be able to start the stopped service.
This is a bit of unusual problem that I'm experiencing, but recently one of the users of a production application started reporting errors in the system. These were traced to a 503 Service Unavailable error when making a call to a web service used by the application.
Now here's the odd part, only the one user is affected by this issue. Other users of the application have not reported any errors. When the user logged on to a different machine that worked for another user, they still received the error.
i was trying to make my service act dynamically... i have set time for my service about for 2 min ,if suppose it was doin huge amount of work means it will exceeds that 2 min time limit then we need to check the service condition if work is pending means we need to run that instance until upto finish.
public static void StartService(string serviceName, int timeoutMilliseconds) { ServiceController service = new ServiceController(serviceName);[code]............
In the past I had the indexing service installed on a Windows Server 2003 and used it to index files for my website. I did this by executing an OleDbCommand with a query and a connection string. How do I accomplish the same thing with the new "Windows Search Service" (Windows Server 2008) by using VB.NET? Does this work the same way so that I only need to change the Provider name which has been "MSIDXS.1" up to now? Case true, what is the new Provider name?
I had a problem getting a VB.NET web service client to receive the response object from a Java web service. In the process of posting this question someone from another department volunteered some code written for a similar situation.I couldn't find this anywhere on the net so I'm completing my question to help others out.[code]The web service is Apache CXF with some Spring elements mixed in.
I'm using Visual Studio 2010 and .NET3.5. I've created a WCF service application. I'm including two DLLs that contain the types I'm returning. The first method I wrote works both in WCF Test Client and also in a console application I created to test. When I move on to the next method that returns a generic list of a type. It works great in WCF Test Client, but when I update the service reference it acts as if the service is unavailable. All my objects say can't find reference, and I can no longer see it in the object browser. It's like it just disappears. I can still see it in the Service Reference folder. If I go back to the WCF app and comment out the contract and implementation of that one method it work again. I created a local class very similar to the class I'm using from the dll, and the it works. Is there something I'm missing here? Can someone point me in the right direction?
how to deploy a service made in VB.net. Most of the websites just say use installutil.exe this is fine while your testing your service on your local machine whit vs2010 on it. I am in the final stage now of my service like 99% is done and my last % is how to get my service installed on the server i need it on. I can't publish because this wont work with a VB.net Service Project. So all i want is a clean and easy Tutorial or Someone who can explain me how to do this without the need to install VS2010 on the server to get install-util.
We have a server with multiple services written in .Net 1.1 and 3.5 running on a Win 2003 server. Everything runs fine, but when we stop a certain service, an unrelated service stops. I have checked and neither has any dependencies. The service we stop is in 3.5, and the unrelated service that incorrectly stops is in 1.1. We get no error messages, nor event log errors, so we are baffled.Does anyone have an idea as to what may be causing this?
