View 3 RepliesIn the past I had the indexing service installed on a Windows Server 2003 and used it to index files for my website. I did this by executing an OleDbCommand with a query and a connection string. How do I accomplish the same thing with the new "Windows Search Service" (Windows Server 2008) by using VB.NET? Does this work the same way so that I only need to change the Provider name which has been "MSIDXS.1" up to now? Case true, what is the new Provider name?

I am using the asp.net DataPager and noticed that search engines wouldn't be able to crawl the links created, so I added a querystring parameter and now see that it could crawl the links. The problem I now have is that it will now eventially end up with multiple urls for the same page.Is it possible to stop search engines indexing all pages with the query string parameter such as:?pg=so the search engine will follow these links but not index:

I have an error ERROR [22018] [Microsoft][ODBC Microsoft Access Driver] Data type mismatch in criteria expression. and I've been trying to solve this but unfortunately I couldn't get the hack of this error. I'm a newbie in dotNet.
Public Sub LogInContinue(ByVal senter As Object, ByVal e As EventArgs)
Dim LibDS As DataSet = New DataSet
Dim LibDA As OdbcDataAdapter = New OdbcDataAdapter("SELECT * FROM tblUserAccount WHERE Uname='" & txtUserName.Text & "'", LibConn)

I now have SQL Parameters set up and I'm using them to save/delete/add my data. This all works well, except when it's trying to save a combobox to the datatable it appears with the error above.Majority of my comboboxes have datasources, and the valuemembers of these are the actual list items, not the ID's of the list items.I'm not sure why this error could be happening, I'm fairly sure I've connected everything to the binding source correctly; I've checked it a few times.Does anybody know what the cause of this could be? I've looked around a bit and I haven't found much
View 7 RepliesI have been trying to use vb2008 to automatically update CustomDocumentProperties fields that I have set up within a pro-forma document. I can load the Word application and word document without problems.I want to update the CustomDocumentProperties fields with data read from a dB. To do this I am assuming that I need to iterate through the CustomDocumentProperties fields within the word document and when one is "found" that matches the data I wish to merge then assign the dB value to the field. The problem is that I am getting an exception error when I try to reference the document customdocumentproperties
"Error : Unable to cast the COM object of type 'System._ComObject' to interface type 'Microsoft.Office.Interop.Word.CustomProperties'. ...... "
my code looks like;
Dim WordApp As Word._Application
Dim odoc As Word._Document
Dim BContinue As Boolean = True

one of the BIG hurdles in my simple project, making a search engine. I don't know how at all. The search engine need only to search in one Directory with its sub directories and txt files for criteria, and display the results, with option open from the results. any basic code or example maybe?

I've a windows form application which opens an Excel file and do some actions and save it as another file. All this is working perfect in windows forms. When I copy the same code and paste it in a windows service, then it is not possible to open the file even.

I'm installing Microsoft Search Server 2008 express with a view to indexing some content for an intranet application.
Having not used Search Server before, i am looking at ways of my asp.net app (.net 3.5) querying the search server.
I'm just starting to look into Search Community Toolkit to see if it is relevant to what i want to achieve. But was wondering if you guys can point me in the right direction (code, articles, etc).

The error comes from the auto-generated code in MainWindow.g.i.vb - when I try to add a reference to Microsoft.VisualBasic, it says I can't because it will be added at runtime.

I want to be able to get & change the startup type for a service through a Windows Application (Automatic, Manual, Disabled). Is there a simple way to do this? I didn't see anything using the ServiceController.I found another thread to use a vbscript but rather do it directly through my application.
View 3 RepliesI made a Windows service, and was wondering if it is possible to disable/grayed out the startup type by code. On my system this is the case with the service Remote Procedure Call (RPC). Here it is not possible to change the startup type.

We are trying to store DateTime values in an Oracle Date field. However, the precision is being lost. Currently only the year, month, and date are being stored. We need better precision than this.
Oracle Dates are supposed to "includes not just the month, day, and year, but also
the hour, minute, and second. "
