I'm trying to convert some VB.net code into C# and having issues trying to convert this one line. VB.NET Dim myreg As Microsoft.Win32.Registry I know it's a static so I can't create an instance but when I tried a VB.NET converter to C# the website gives me this: Microsoft.Win32.Registry myreg = null; And gives me an error message: 'Microsoft.Win32.Registry' is a 'type' but is used like a 'variable' In the last part of the Function in VB.NET, myreg is used:

I am getting this error in my VB.NET code. Anyone have ideas on what it could be or how to troubleshoot. I am using SQL Server 2008 and this error doesn't happen consistently. Looks like it happens completely randomly and doesn't seem to be originating from my code:

I grabbed an example program to modify for my needs to grab data from a Word doc and transform to XML. Right off the bat I get multiple errors. [Code] I am getting Error Type 'System.Windows.Forms.Application' has no constructors.
View 6 RepliesI have an error ERROR [22018] [Microsoft][ODBC Microsoft Access Driver] Data type mismatch in criteria expression. and I've been trying to solve this but unfortunately I couldn't get the hack of this error. I'm a newbie in dotNet.

I now have SQL Parameters set up and I'm using them to save/delete/add my data. This all works well, except when it's trying to save a combobox to the datatable it appears with the error above.Majority of my comboboxes have datasources, and the valuemembers of these are the actual list items, not the ID's of the list items.I'm not sure why this error could be happening, I'm fairly sure I've connected everything to the binding source correctly; I've checked it a few times.Does anybody know what the cause of this could be? I've looked around a bit and I haven't found much
View 7 RepliesI have been trying to use vb2008 to automatically update CustomDocumentProperties fields that I have set up within a pro-forma document. I can load the Word application and word document without problems.I want to update the CustomDocumentProperties fields with data read from a dB. To do this I am assuming that I need to iterate through the CustomDocumentProperties fields within the word document and when one is "found" that matches the data I wish to merge then assign the dB value to the field.The problem is that I am getting an exception error when I try to reference the document customdocumentproperties
"Error : Unable to cast the COM object of type 'System._ComObject' to interface type 'Microsoft.Office.Interop.Word.CustomProperties'. ...... "
my code looks like;
Dim WordApp As Word._Application
Dim odoc As Word._Document
Dim BContinue As Boolean = True

I was scripting a very basic process manager, with a ListView component, and it was working fine for many days, up until now.Here is the code for getting processes:
Dim Process As New Process()
Dim Count As Integer = 0

The line of code where I put "*WIN32 EXCEPTION LINE* keeps running into an error(Win32 Exception was unhandled; Access is denied). Here is the full error description:
System.ComponentModel.Win32Exception was unhandled
ErrorCode=-2147467259
Message=Access is denied[code]....
As I said before, this had been working for several days, up until now.
with an error I can't seem to get aroundregistry (originally written back in .NET v1.1 and has been upgraded to v3.5). I'm trying to get it 64-bit compliant and am almost done. Anyhow, we also have a small .net utility application that was written for the system admins that maintain the application to edit/change the registry values since they are encrypted and can't just be changed via Regedit. The error I'm getting is in the utility application code.
Error: "The specified RegistryKeyPermissionCheck value is invalid. Parameter name: mode"
The error pops up when the utility code attempts to create a non-existant subkey, like so:
Dim regKey As RegistryKey
[code]....
I read in msdn that registrykey class is found in Microsoft.win32 namespace.But when I try to add a reference to my project, I couldn't find Microsoft.win32 in the list.
View 4 RepliesWhy I am I getting the "type byte has no constructors" error here?

I just wanted to try something I had in mind,
Code:
Dim mTreeNodeCollection As TreeNodeCollection
mTreeNodeCollection.Add(New TreeNode("ddsf"))
above produces a 'System.NullReferenceException was unhandled' which is fine.
So I thought dam I forgot to initialise it!!
Code:
Dim mTreeNodeCollection As New TreeNodeCollection
mTreeNodeCollection.Add(New TreeNode("ddsf"))
Now it does not run but i get
Quote:
Type 'Sytem.Windows.Forms.TreeViewCollection' has no constructors
so how the hell I'm I going to get it to work?? can I only Add to a TreeNode collection , a TreeView?

vbc : error BC30136: Error creating Win32 resources: Error reading icon '"Recycle Bin Empty.ico"' -- The filename, directory name, or volume label syntax is incorrect.
This icon is the Application icon which is in the same directory of the project.vbc is started with /win32icon:"Recycle Bin Empty.ico" parameter.Don't know why MSBuild can't reach the file.
I was testing article [URL] to see if I could use this to populate a listview2 with the icons from Directory.GetFiles(apath) and getDirectories. If you go into c:windowssystem32 the program will hang for about 4 mins then if you go back to windows then back to system32 you will get the error.
win32 handle that was passed to icon is not valid or is the wrong type.
I have a large project where we have 2-3 dll projects that are converted from VB6 to VB.NET. We have fixed all the issues that caused compilation errors, and most of obvious issues in running, so now we have basically a program up and running. The exe is created from scratch in VB.NET, using a lot of functionality from the converted dll's (including GUI forms). What I wonder is when I run the program in debug mode, I get a bunch of warnings in the "Immediate Window" saying:
A first chance exception of type 'System.Exception' occurred in Microsoft.VisualBasic.dll
...and some of other type (but most of them in Microsoft.VisualBasic.dll).I was wondering if this is common in projects converted from VB6, or if it is caused by bad design in our code...
I have a program in VB.Net that receives mails from Outlook, extracts attachments and inserts the attachments into a table through a query. I would like to put the query/queries in a Try/Catch block, but cannot do so as Outlook exceptions cannot be caught, and it gives me an error, and unless I put a very specific exception, I cannot catch it. Is there a workaround?
Edit:
Try
Catch ex As Exception
End Try
Exception is underlined and when I hover on it, it says: "Catch cannot catch type 'Microsoft.Office.Interop.Outlook.Exception' because it is not in 'System.Exception' or a class that inherits from 'System.Exception'". This is affecting all my other code which I'd like to put into a Try/Catch block.
I've started to use a Vista machine for development. In case it is significant: I'm using MSBee so that I can code in the Visual Studio 2005 IDE while still building against the 1.1 framework.On the Vista machine, when I tried to build a particular vb project, I got this error:
error BC30464: Namespace or type'Compatibility' in the project-level Imports 'Microsoft.VisualBasic.Compatibility' cannot be found.
The same project built fine on my old XP machine. I checked in this folder on my Vista machine:
C:windowsmicrosoft.netFrameworkv1.1.4322
...and sure enough, "Microsoft.VisualBasic.Compatibility.dll" was missing. So was "Microsoft.VisualBasic.Compatibility.Data.dll". Copying them from my XP machine to my Vista machine allowed me to build the project successfully.I'm just a bit puzzled as to why this happened. Why was "Microsoft.VisualBasic.Compatibility.dll" missing? I'm also not very comfortable with my chosen solution - copying the DLL manually. It works, but surely there must be a better way.
As far as the configuration:
Vista:
.Net Framework 1.1
.Net Framework 1.1 SP1
.Net Framework 1.1 SDK

I'm currently doing a project that includes access 2010 My question will be what driver can I use for an access 2010 *.accdb type file? For a *.mdb it works perfectly well with
ConnString ="Driver={Microsoft Access Driver (*.mdb)};Dbq=" & Application.StartupPath & "\CITSDB.mdb;Uid=Admin;Pwd=123;"
But, when I changed the mbd to accdb:
ConnString ="Driver={Microsoft Access Driver (*.accdb)};Dbq=" & Application.StartupPath & "\CITSDB.accdb;Uid=Admin;Pwd=123;"
It resulted in errors:
ERROR[HY000][Microsoft][ODBC Microsoft Access Driver]Could not find file '(unknown)'.
ERROR[IM006][Microsoft][ODBC Driver Manager]SQLSetConnetAttr failed
ERROR[HY000][Microsoft][ODBC Microsoft Access Driver]Could not find file '(unknown)'
And then it shows me that my code for
If dsLogin.Tables(0).Rows.Count = 1 Then
IndexOutOfRangeException was unhandled
Cannot find table 0
I knew it must be the driver but I don't know what accdb driver I can use for the connstring.

i have 2 windows machines with VB 2008 installed on both. I created a windows app on 1 machine and put the powerpacks dll file with the app folder anyway. For some reason, when i load the project up on my other machine, i just get a never ending list of errors related to PowerPacks. Why? I have exactly the same version installed and tried download the PowerPacks on Windows website. I just get over 102 errors saying Type 'Microsoft.VisualBasic.PowerPacks.LineShape' is not defined. Anyone care to enlighten me?
View 3 RepliesI have an application that is primarily developed on an x86 machine. I recently checked the app out of TFS onto a Win 7 x64 machine for development. However, every single form level resource file shows up in the error list with an entry like the following:
is not a valid Win32 application. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x800700C1) Line 127, position 5. C:Users...shortened...FormsfrmCustomer.resx Line 127 Column 5
What I find interesting is that my application level resource files aren't showing the same error. Plus, these are just XML files. They aren't applications in any way.
I'm currently working under VB2010 beta 2 on both machines. Obviously, with a bunch of errors, the app won't compile on the x64 machine.
