I would like to disable some or all system sounds for a .NET 3.5 application.
I cannot find anything around System.Media.SystemSounds that turns off sound settings that the user has chosen via the control panel.
How can I disable temporarily a module ? If it cant then how can I disable the sounds of my form? I have a mouseover, hover and click event sound in my form and I want it to be disabled in my options. I make a module thinking that if I can disable my module but the use of a checkbox then it might work but if it will not the how can I do that? im thinking also of a simple if statement but I prefer simplier ones like disabling my module.

This sound is off by default in the Windows Default Sound Scheme, but if the user has set this sound up to do something then I want to play it.The user could have assigned any wav file to this action so I want to find which (if any) sound they have assigned and play it. View 1 RepliesI know how to access and play the system sounds using vb.net, and I also know that using the registry to save users' settings isn't ideal, however, The details of my project are rather long and drawn out, so I'll skip most of them Basically my program is loaded onto several computers on our network. The entire purpose of this program is to sound various alarms on different dates and times. Apparently I am to set up the program so that the different alarm sounds can be configured through Windows' control panel.
I can add the program into the appropriate part of the Registry in order to make that happen. The problem is reading the the information back. Under the name of the app, I have four different subkeys, each with the name of one of the alarms. Under those keys are two other subkeys, .default and .current. How do I get the sound from .current to play? For some weird reason I get null returned any time I try to read the key that I created.

Then a want to display a waiting screen to show the status of the current application. To this i thought to create a new thread to open the waiting window and then show the messages.
But i have a problem that when my thread finishes, it closes the waiting screen. I tryied to put a loop inside my thread, but this crashes my aplication until the loop condition is satisfied.

There is one thing I have never done before, and that is disabling an application after 30 days. Let's say I want to let users try out the application for 30 days, and if they haven't bought it after that time, then the application disables itself.
Any possible ideas on how to implement something like this?
I now changed the name of my vb.net application from "Ghost" to "Ghostz" and the new generated file name is "Ghostz.application" but the problem is that the old users when they will run the setup.exe file will lunch the "Ghost.application" file. View 4 RepliesEver since upgrading to Visual Studio 2010, I'm running into an issue where the first web request of any type (WebRequest, WebClient, etc.) hangs for about 20 seconds before completing. Subsequent calls work quickly. I've narrowed down the problem to a proxy issue.If I manually disable proxy settings, I don't experience this delay:

What's strange is that there are no proxy settings enabled on this machine in Internet Options. What I'm wondering is if there is a way to disable proxy settings for my entire project in one shot without explicitly disabling as above for every web object.

View 1 RepliesI have a windows forms application written in VB.NET which scrapes information from serveral web pages (who doesn't right)? Anyway, I am having problem with one particular site where partway through the page navigation my application hangs. When I press pause (or break) in the debugger, it stops on a call to System.Windows.Forms.Application.DoEvents.
Resuming execution shows that it really is stuck on this line (it does not reach the next line of code). It also hangs about the same point each time I run it (at least its consistent). Since System.Windows.Forms.Application.DoEvents yields to other threads on the same processor and then resumes execution of the current thread, I think the problem is that some other thread is not behaving well (not returning from some event handling code). I thought Windows 7 was pre-emptive, which makes me
doubt that theory but I really don't know.

The program scrapes somewhere between 12 and 14 pages before it gets stuck on the call to DoEvents. Does anyone have a clue why this would happen? Why would any call to DoEvents hang?
I am trying to clean up my code in a project I have been working on by creating two separate modules one that disables a service and one that enables a service through the registry all of this worked fine in one big form all together but I would like to also reuse the module in some other projects, I am getting this message however "Warning1Function 'ApplicationLayerGatewayDisable' doesn't return a value on all code paths. A null reference exception could occur at run time when the result is used". [Code]. what do i need to do to get rid of these warnings ? or do I just ignore them?
View 12 RepliesI am writing a small visual basic application to install clean up tools quickly on any machines that we need to work on here at my workplace. I am using 4-5 cleanup programs that I have packaged into MSI's and have batch scripts that I am calling in my visual basic application to run them as silent installs. However, because I am doing the silent installs, windows always pops up with the "open file - security warning" and I have to click run for each individual program. I am wondering how to get around this from my end within the application. I know it can be disabled in windows but I am not wanting to have to go through a process on every machine that I run this program on. I would like to find a fix on the back end in my script.
