I am trying to develop a database application front end that will allow users to view (read-only) and if neccessary add selected (copies) of documents to a database. The documents can then be viewed (again read only) whilst further analysis is carried out on the document contents. Does such a control exist? I need something like a print preview which can be viewed and read.

How do I open/view Office documents (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) in a VB.NET Form? remember to mark the replies as answers if they and unmark them if they provide. Welcome to the All-In-One Code Framework! If you have any feedback,
I am currently hosting an IE Browser control in a .NET (2.0) Form and using it to load Office files such as Excel and Word thusly:[code]The hosting and loading works well except whenever I navigate to a file I am presented with a dialog that asks whether I want to save or open the file. (This is standard IE file-download behavior.) I always want to open it of course and I do not want the dialog to show.Another issue is that when I close the window that hosts the IE control and the Office doc the document does not close and remains open on disk. This means that subsequent attempts to open the same file via my app or the native office app will fail because of the sharing violation. Is there a programmatic way of avoiding this dialog and cleaning up resources afterward? I am asking for a programmatic answer because web research has only yielded solutions that entail modifying OS-level settings.
Host an Excel spreadsheet inside my application.Work rather transparently (avoid usability issues like the one described above)Avoid having to make any OS-specific changes that may affect other applications (especially icluding IE)Is zero additional cost (no licensed 3rd party libs please) Code Project and other open source resources are OK.Not mess around with the DSO Framer ActiveX control, unless a stable version is developed/discovered
I'm having some difficulty merging multiple word documents together using Microsoft Office Interop Assemblies (Office 2007) and ASP.NET 3.5. I'm able to merge the documents, but some of my formatting is missing (namely the fonts and images).
I am not an expert programmer and am just getting familiar with .NET office automation. I have two questions:
1. For me to create word documents from my code on a server, does word have to be installed on the server? My test server does not have word installed. Is there a way to have the code open word on the user's machine in this case?
2. I am trying out some code for creating word documents. It works fine on my machine. However, when I try to run it on server it gives me an error.. "Cannot create ActiveX component." Is this a permissions issue or related to the fact that the server does not have word installed?
The program allows users to insert Documents along with a bunch of their attributes into the program. The documents are stored in a relational database. One of the required functionalities is allowing the user to look for such documents. The User normally search directly for the obvious attributes of the document, like a unique ID, or it's Title. The problem is that from the search parameters is not allways known which ones will the user fill. For example the user inserts the name and version of the deocument, another time the user enters part of the Title and the person that delivered the document, or might just enter the document number and nothing else. Some of the data might even be incomplete, like title, name of the person who created the document and so on. The idea from the person who designed the system (I'm only reimplementing it) was to allow easier searches for the user, and allowing the user to search for more parameters tod with the idea that "the more parameters, the more specific results", since the results are always group of documents instead of single documents.
I am trying to make a program that will compare 2 documents. Idealy what this program would do would be to let the user define key words that he/she is looking for then hit the compare button and have those key words higlighted in both text documents. So far I have 2 button that paste stext into eather box and button that says compare this is my current code for the compare button
If tb1.Text = tb2.Text Then MsgBox("compatible!", MsgBoxStyle.Information) this works great but it only works if the text is exactly the same I just want it to pick up on words that are the same in eather box and eather A. show a message box that tells the words that are the same or better yet B. have them highlighted. I want to do this as simply as possible so if we have to leave out the key words thats ok. I am a big noob and don't know too much about VB (although I came up with that basic code myself thats about all I can do XD) so please bare with me.
I've been asked to get the page counts for documents stored as tif files. What I have now is looping through our third party software to open them and then get the page count. I can't stop the image from flashing and it is very slow. Does anyone know of a way to loop through them quickly and can the page counts (one image can have many documents)?
I need a way to allow another form to load after my program display's an introduction cut-scene without loading the form in the middle of the cut-scene. Sort of like a delay.
My company's main software package includes a hefty configuration library which loads on startup. This config library includes some mandatory settings which, if not supplied (via command line arguments), cause the entire application to exit.
This has never been an issue for our users, who launch the software via scripts which have the needed command line arguments supplied automatically. But sometimes when debugging our software we developers forget to specify the necessary arguments in Visual Studio's debug options; it's then very annoying to be greeted with the message Config specification invalid -- missing required parameters X, Y, and Z -- shutting down (I'm paraphrasing, of course).[code]...
I have a scheduler with multiple views. 1 day, 3 days, 5 days and 7 days.I have figured out how to scale each view and it prints correctly. What I am having problems with is how to allow the user to print these different views from one screen. I have a dropdown box with 1 day, 3, day, 5 day and 7 day. On the scheduler I have put the same procedure as Print and Print2 with just minor differences for the scaling for each view. Print Document1 and PrintDocument2 are on the second form. For some reason, no matter how I call the print document2 I end up with Printdocument1. I have checked it over and over but am getting no where. Would there be any reason I can't use multiple printdocuments on one form for printing different procedures?
I have this cash register program with separate forms for the items and the display form. The code works untill you press the button 2x. It says 5.5 + 5.5 = 11.5??? Can you fix this code?
CashReg.ListBox1.Items.Add("Item 1") Dim cash As String cash = (5.5)[code]....
I'am creating a program that will input a number in a textbox for example 5 and display 5 textboxes in form...I have no idea how to do this but here is the code i've done..
I am working on a project where I need to open microsoft word documents in a form with a panel (the document will be put into a panel).I found the code to try and use API, it would not recognize the file names (yes they are valid filenames).Tried a whole bunch of stuff. Here is my current incarnation:
Dim pi As New Process Dim i As IntPtr pi.StartInfo.FileName = FileName[code]....
It ALWAYS starts the word document in its own window and will not redirect it to my own program.I tried to redirect the output and it gave me a message that it was not a valid win32 application.
I wondered if someone could help me with my code. I am changing some pages of a website from Excel documents to HTML form.I have most of the code sorted but I also need to save a few documents to Word. I keep getting a few errors and cannot seem to solve them.
I have included my code and highlighted the errors by underlining them. Maybe someone can help??

I am trying to write a program using the API for SolidWorks in .NET. My first problem is setting 'set swApp = Application.sldworks', the last line of code.It is my understanding that this is simply defined as an installed application on my system (which it is), and does not even use the SolidWorks API to accomplish. Though this syntax is used in many VB6 options, i am getting a syntax error.I have tried it without the 'Set' in front, no help there.

experience on how to create an engine using C# (VB.NET is okay too) that is generic enough to handle most cases of MS Word text fields I need to fill with data I'm getting from a database? In short, I'm about to embark on this little Office automation excursion and I'm hoping a little bit of feedback here.
ive been asked to write a program to deal with supply chains (tracking commodities, personnel, etc). I want to create a program that will allow multiple office to run the same software and update their local databases as well as a central database.how to best send the data/ recieve it, and store it so that all offices can see, edit, and store the data both locally, and over the internet.
I have a program that at one point will open word and export some info. That works perfect, however I have just noticed each day I have a number of winwords open (can only see them in task manager so they are hidden). It appears that everytime I start the program it opens a hidden winword session. It has nothing to do with the code I have on the form, it opens before any code I have written is executed.
What is the best way to make a program that works with multiple versions of Microsoft office? I own office 2007, so my program uses the office 2007 com objects. When I try to use my application with office 2003, I get errors related to the com objects. Does Microsoft have com objects that are compatible with multiple versions of office?
Given vba's fairly lamentable image manipulation abilities, I'm considering going down the VB.NET form route. My hope would be to allow some degree of interactive manipulation and then either pass the image back to vba or save it and load it in vba.I'm happy to investigate the latter part of it at length under my own steam - however, I'm not versed enough in VB.NET forms to know if calling them from (in this case) Access VBA is a practical or doable - and whether it's possible to pass data back and forth.
We have currently upgraded our development machines to Windows 7 and Office 2007. We have a vb 2008 app that references 2003 Office components to use for mail-merging to word.We loaded up our app in the vb environment today and were instantly greeted with missing components/functions which are related to the 2003 Office components. We can update these to use the Office 2007 components/functions instead, however we are unsure whether after doing this our vb app will work with machines only with Office 2003 on. can machines with Office 2003 on work with our vb app that references Office 2007 components?
I have a problem in timers, I want to display 2 forms each one after 3 and 5, how to do that? I mean when the first form appears, after 3 seconds another one will appear, then after 5 seconds the second will appear. I have a code where someone gave me here but its for message box only, thus I modify it to put a form still does not work. Here the code I put in the timer below:
Private Sub frmblabla_Load(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles MyBase.Load tmrnote.Start() Private Sub tmrnote_Tick(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles tmrnote.Tick[code]....
I still have problem when the message box stops, it displays all the forms together. All I want is when the message box stops, then it display the first form then stop to display the second then stop to display the last. The first form must stay for 3 seconds on the screen, then after 3 seconds the second appears then after 5 seconds the last appears.
i was wondering if someone could give me the final explanation on what i might be doing wrong here.I spent a lot of time reading around the net and the forum about how to add Threading capabilities to a VB project.
Nos, i've got .NET 4 installed, and i've added the system.tsr and mscorlib.dll files as reference in, say, Excel 2007 (see screenshot). However, when i try to make a thread with anything as basic as "Dim Thread1 As System.Threading.Thread", i get a user-defined type not found error.Indeed, when i use the object browser to see what's in the System file, theres nothing remotely linked to any Threading, and in the mscorlib file, nothing under "Threading" either, just a few Thread related functions, but nothing defining a data type
