I need a way to allow another form to load after my program display's an introduction cut-scene without loading the form in the middle of the cut-scene. Sort of like a delay.

View 3 RepliesI want to pre-load a number of images from the web, so that I can display them in a form, and scroll through them without delay. It can be a large number, but i only need to pre-load perhaps 20, and then remove/add in advance, as I scroll through. The images will typically be .GIF or .PNG, of quite small size, <50kb. The link for any single image will look something like this: [URL]..and I will keep a list of all the links I need to access.
What "type" shall I use to store these images? And how do I make web requests to put the data into this type? I guess it will be more convenient to keep this as in-code list of some memorystream type (?) instead of saving them to disk and having to deal with file names and stuff..? Also, what type of control shall I use to display such images? Do I use a PictureBox?And if a memorystream is indeed the best choice, how do I make this show in the picturebox?

I know that time delays have been covered before around almost everywhere. however a method that forgoes forcing the GUI to become temporarily non-responsive, is all but a myth, or at least to my findings. i have the need for a GUI program to delay before the next command, however using the current method, detailed following, it causes the desired effect however it dose make it much less polished as when you click anything else on the GUI it goes un-responsive for the directed time. [Code] make a sub called say Tdelay( milseconds as integer) and have it run a loop as many times as the milseconds variable indicates and each time making the thread delay for 1 milsecond and then update the GUI/form in some way, then re-loop.

I would like the DataGridView to have focus as soon as the form is opened, so on pressing the down key would enable you to scroll down through the rows straight away. I have tried setting the tab index so that the DataGridView is the first selected item in the form. im looking for a way to have my program wait a certain amount of seconds before it goes on to the next command, ive tried the sleep command but that freezes up my program and i cannot let that happen, ive heard of using timers as a delay but i don't really know how to do that.

If I open it a second time it appears instantly, have I done something wrong, or not done something. I have connect to a MS access database that connection is instant always.

But I have a problem, what if the the display setting resolution is change to 800X600, 1024X768, 1280X800 and so fort? How can I maintain the location of my forms? My screen resolution that I'm is 1280X800. I locate the first widget in x.1000, y.20 and the other one is in x.1009, y.325. How can I make this location a generic location for my widgets?

View 3 RepliesI have an app where there's an edit form and it loads a bunch of stuff into comboboxes which takes half a minute to load the first time. Once it's loaded I keep the instance of the form and just hide it instead of disposing it until the app exits. What I would like to do is in the Sub Main of the app (there is no startup form) I would like to launch a new thread and load that form into memory, but I don't want the form to be displayed at that time, what's the best way to do this?

I'm trying to make a quiz application with Visual Basic at the moment. I want load event to be activated whenever coming from Main page to Inputpage and activate event when coming from output page to input page.But what i am getting is that only for the first time load is activated and for all other only activate is called.

View 1 RepliesI have an application that's going to be portable so it's likely the path of the database itself (access mdb file) will change so hard wiring the path in the app.config isn't practical. I would like to create a 'Settings' form for the user to enter the path (browse for would be ideal but I can figure that out later) of the database file and save it for future use with the same app. I've found a few things out there talking about creating a new app.config file alongside the original with a 'key' defined but I'm not sure how that relates to the original app.config and how it would call the new variable to make the connection.

I can change the parent form's opacity under properties, but can't change the embedded mdi form's opacity under it's properties. Opacity = 0.5 doesn't change the opacity of the mdi... works fine for the parent form. I was hoping that the embedded mdi forms functions would still be independent of the parent in order for me to change it's opacity.
